Power, Might, Or Self Control?
October 16, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 16:32
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Some people believe that brute force and power are the answer to everything. However, for strength and power to be effective, you need to have someone with a clear mind and someone who is very much in control leading it.

Every army needs a General to make the decision where, when, and how to fight. When the war is complete, the men who fought often come home to a hero’s welcome, but in the history books, the General is remembered for winning the war.

Every company has a president or leadership. While it is all the employees who, in reality, make the product or provide the service, nevertheless, when the job is finished, the leadership receives a pat on the back.

In the same way, if a company fails or a war is lost, the shame for this failure or loss is placed firmly on the shoulders of the leadership as well. Sometimes when a business fails due to a poor decision, someone is held financially, and in some cases, criminally responsible. Again, this hardship normally falls on the owners, the President, the CEO, or leadership.

It is a good thing to be strong and brave. Still, it is nobler, and often a harder thing, to be in control and wise. It is far better to rule your emotions and be in control of yourself than to conquer a land and be in control of nothing.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In the book of James in chapter 3, it says the tongue is a little member that no man can tame. One of the smallest members of the body often seems the hardest to control. Therefore, if you cannot control the muscle of the tongue, you had better learn how to control the emotion that wags it.

When do you find it most difficult to maintain self-control?

LORD And JESUS And CHRIST

October 13, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

1 Thessalonians 3:13
To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

What goes up must come down. If there is a beginning to something, there must surely be an end. That is, unless, of course, you are God. Oh, and by the way, we are not. So, for you and me, there will be an end. Not in our eternal spiritual life, but most assuredly in our earthly one until the rapture of the church.

In today’s verse, we find a few interesting things. One is that Jesus will be the one who establishes our hearts, not us. What does that mean? It means He who has begun a good work in you will finish it. If Jesus resides in your heart today for sure, He will for sure be there at the end. Also, He will create of you an undefiled creation to present before His Father, who is God. What a wonderful truth to know. God, through the Holy Spirit, is still working on us.

We also see the truth about God’s Son and who He must truly be to us. It says, “at the coming of our LORD” (meaning that He must be the supreme authority in everything in our lives, our controller), “Jesus” (Jehoshua, the self-existent, eternal Jehovah-Saviour), “Christ” (the anointed Messiah and Saviour of all sin.) When we put that together, it says that He must be our controlling authority and the eternal Saviour of our sin. If He is anything less, how can we call Him Lord Jesus Christ?

Finally, we see He comes, “with all his saints.” Those who have met their earthly end reside with Him now and will come with Him then. What comfort for those of us who have loved ones who have gone before. We can be assured that they are in Heaven.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Even as this day begins, we must come before a Holy God and ask for His loving hand to guide us. As He does, know He is doing everything that needs to be done to perfect us. Preparing us for the time when He comes and gathers His entire bride to present us to God the Father. Make Him your LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Is he to you, LORD, JESUS, and CHRIST?

Water Water Everywhere
October 11 & 12, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 89:9
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Water water everywhere! Did you know that there are approximately three hundred and thirty-one million cubic miles of water on Earth? Water is the only known substance that can exist in gas, liquid, and solid form on Earth within just a few degrees of each other. That about ninety-six percent of the world’s water is contained in the oceans and about two percent in the polar ice caps, leaving only two percent for rivers, streams, lakes, and underground water supplies. Did you know water covers over seventy percent of the Earth’s surface? Those are some amazing facts. Earth’s water seems to be controlled by four things. There are the winds that continually blow and shift the surfaces of the waters. Another is the fact that the Earth is continually rotating. Have you ever tried to walk with a full glass of water? I’m sure you get the idea. Then there are the gravitational pulls from the solar system and the Earth, which seem to draw the bodies of water back and forth. Finally, there is the difference in temperatures of water as it moves from place to place.

Now, here is a marvelous fact that scientists seem to overlook. Our God controls it all. He controls the wind, gravitational pulls, the Earth’s rotation, and temperature. Not to mention, He knew how much water the earth needed combined with the plant life to make the oxygen so we could survive here. He keeps it all in balance every day, so the rivers and oceans do not continually overrun our shores. Our God controls it all. Sounds like a full-time job. However, this is only one of the many things that God maintains, and yet, He still has time for us. Furthermore, we are more important to Him than all the water in the universe.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Jesus told the lady at the well in John 4:14, “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” Come and drink that water which is of our Lord. It is life eternal, only available by trusting in Christ. He controls it all. What a Saviour.

Are you drinking water from the right source?

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Time To Set Sail… Where You Going?
October 10, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 48:12
Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him wanderers, that shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

As a Pastor, I have heard the comment during years of counseling, “How did we get so far off track?” It seemed all along to them that they were going in the right direction in life. It appeared things were right on course. Then somehow, they found their life in trouble and turmoil. I wondered how they had ended up there.

Their life is much like a ship setting sail for a destination across the sea. The rudder and engines work fine. Mechanical operations are all functioning correctly, so they set sail. There is one thing not working correctly: the compass. The compass they travel by is one degree off. While traveling, things look and work ok, but they end up in the wrong destination. How did that happen? It happened because they were navigating with faulty equipment. It was not right. It was not true.

Our verse today says that God, because of their sinfulness and rebellion, was going to send wanderers into their lives, people with no direction. So, where will the wanderers lead them? Who knows? A wanderer has no direction. They wander. It is like the blind leading the blind. The wanderer leads a trusting soul nowhere. Then at the end of wandering, you have nothing. They empty your vessel; your life is spent wasted, traveling down the wrong road. People can lead you off course. The wrong leader with the wrong message will lead you to the wrong outcome. Sin can sidetrack your life. Worldly desires can direct your life toward ruin. Today, we must keep watch for the wanderers.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The best way to know if something is phony is to know the original so well you cannot be fooled. God’s Word is the truth. It is the original. Christians must come to know it so well that no wanderer could lead them off course. Know God.

Have there been wanderers in your life whom you have followed?

What Prison Do You Serve In?
October 9, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 16:25
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Spending time with a bunch of inmates does not sound like a lot of fun to most people. Being confined in one place all day, being told when to eat, and what to do is not most people’s idea of having a good time. The thought of having to be so close for long periods with the sinful wickedness of the world makes it even less appealing to most believers.

Now admit it, you have a picture of a jail cell, prison, or dungeon in your mind, right? However, just think about this for a moment. Most places of employment or education could be described in the same manner. Confined in one place all day, told when to take a break and eat, when to work or go to class, and what to do. Sounds like most factories, offices, and schools I know of. The similarities go on. Things such as having to be so close for long periods of time with the sinful wickedness that surrounds us in this world. If you work in a secular job or attend public education, then you most likely rub shoulders every day with the sinfulness that is trapped in the hearts of people around you every day. They are imprisoned by sin just like an inmate who is behind bars. They are just as miserable and need just as much to be set free.

So now, let me ask you the all-important question. Do prisoners around you hear you praising God and singing as those around Paul and Silas did? Or do they hear you grumbling just like they do about your surroundings and work conditions? What do the prisoners in your world see of your Saviour in you?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

There is a little phrase most of us have heard, and most of us forget. It goes something like, “I might be the only Jesus the world has ever seen.” This is so true. Brighten the corner of the world where God lets you serve today. Praise Him, sing, and be happy. Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say REJOICE.

How might you be God’s ray of light into the world today?
