Where Are You When God Speaks?

October 6, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 39:15
Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Where are you when you most often hear from God? Some would say Church, during Sunday School, morning or evening worship, or at Wednesday night service. Oh, how I pray that is true. Others might say, He speaks to me during my quiet time with Him during daily devotions. Stating that as they read their Bible, God uses His written Word to speak to their heart. What a wonderful truth this is for those who take time to fellowship with God daily. However, most of us would probably not have stayed in jail. In a place made to house sinners and lawbreakers. Yet, that is exactly where He spoke to Jeremiah. We will find in the Bible that God spoke to several people while they were in jail. It may seem like an unlikely place, but the truth is God speaks to us all in all sorts of places. He does so through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that we have studied previously. Often in our own emotional or spiritual prisons that we have created.

  • In our prison of “I want it my way,” Jesus says, “whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

  • In a prison of despair, we hear the voice of God say, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

  • In the prison of our own sinfulness that may seem unforgivable or irreversible, we hear God speak: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  • When it seems we can’t go on and we place ourselves in a prison of dejectedness and weariness, we hear Him call: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

  • In the most unlikely places, we hear God say, “Peace be still.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Why do we not hear Him speak? We often shut Him out or stay too busy for God. Take time today to listen… Hear it? He just said, “I love you.”

What might be so important that we would
not have time to hear God speak?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 4:1-2
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

“Someday, son, you will see I am right,” or “When will you learn, child, that when I tell you something, I know what I am talking about?” These words have rung in my ears for years. My dad would tell me something, and I would, for some silly reason, believe my way was better. Guess what, it was not!

Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father.” The word instruction here, in Hebrew, carried the meaning of discipline. It could say the discipline of your father.

What did you think of when you read the word discipline? I know I think of getting a spanking. That is one form of discipline used when I would not obey. However, that is a discipline I received for a discipline I would not obey. You see, the word “discipline” also includes the meaning of controlled behavior. The father in today’s passage is telling his son, using one word, you choose which it will be. If you hear of the disciplines, which I, your father, have learned by years of practice, and then apply them as directed, you can avoid the disciplines that come from disobedience.

This is exactly what all of life is about. It is about learning to live with disciplines. That is what Jesus was doing while here on earth. He was teaching the disciplines of life to His disciples. If they would learn and then adhere to them, the blessing from God would follow. If they went about their own way, they would also suffer the consequences of disobedience. When God, in Genesis 1, created this earth and everything on it, it was all set in order and disciplined. And He said, “it is good.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How many times do you need to bump your head on something before you learn to duck? How many times must we see that God’s ways are always the best before we will obey? When we do His will and willingly follow His disciplines for life, “It is Good.

Who or a “We Can God?

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

SING!
October 3, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 81:1
Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

We have all been there at some point in our lives. At the local school play or a church program, where the children are all brought out on stage, lined up perfectly, dressed so appropriately, and then they are asked to sing.

Occasionally, you will get the child prodigy who can actually carry a tune. However, most often you have three groups of children. The ones who look dazed at the fact that there are so many people looking back at them. They have this sort of “deer caught in the headlights” look on their face. Sometimes they mumble a word or two, but usually, it is nothing. Then there are the ones who are trying. They do not sing loud or soft or even on key, for that matter. Nevertheless, they are participating. Most often, there are one or two who sing as loudly as they possibly can, almost to the point of screaming the words. You cannot shake them with laughter. You cannot even embarrass them by pointing. They are going to sing no matter what. Why? It is because they want to. In addition, if they are singing a song about a loving mom, dad, or grandparents, it will even bring a sentimental tear to an eye here and there. And do you know what? I have never seen one parent actually die from embarrassment or get up and leave the room. No matter what their child did, this was their child, and they loved them.

Our verse today says Sing aloud; make a joyful noise unto God. Our heavenly Father does not care about the quality of our voice. He cares about the content of our hearts. So, SING!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

There is a time and place for quality singing. Soloists and special music should have a pleasant sound. Nevertheless, God wants to hear His children sing because they are happy. He has put a new song in our hearts. So let it out.

What song comes to mind that will glorify God today?

Is There Anything Too Hard For God?
October 2, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Some days it may feel as though the weight of the whole world falls on your shoulders. Problems seem to arise at every turn. Family situations keep coming one after another. Friends appear to have turned a deaf ear to your concerns and problems. Pressures from work and co-workers keep growing day by day. It may even look as if there is no way out. However, God says there is. Our never-changing God spoke these words to the people of Israel. However, you might want to bend an ear to what they say even today.

Is there anything too hard for God, Anything? Could the God who created such a complex and wonderful creation as you also handle the daily cares you may have? The answer is YES! Can the God who created heaven and earth and keeps it all working, also handle your pressures at work? YES! Is the God who overthrew Satan’s plans at the cross of Calvary and destroyed the yoke of sin forever able to help you deal with your family matters? Again, it is YES!

Jeremiah understood this. Our verse today is just a confirmation from God of what Jeremiah had said back in verse 17 when he said: Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is  nothing too hard for thee:” God’s answer was: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” The answer: NO! NOTHING!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When the world seems to surround you as a tomb, go to the Lord who conquered the tomb. Jesus said it best in John 10:10 when He said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

What situation or problem have you considered
beyond God’s ability to deal with?

Can You Control God?

September 29, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 78:40-41
How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Here is a good question to start the day. Be sure and think just a bit before you answer, because you know it is a trick question. Here it is. Do you think it is possible for you to control God? The all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere at every moment God. The one who can do anything He desires. Can you control Him? Well, we know we cannot have total control of Him, I mean, get real, He is God. However, you can control His actions toward you.

Imagine that. You can have full control of how the Almighty reacts to you. How? Well, the Bible says that if you harbor sin in your life, God will not hear you (Psalm 66:18). In Proverbs 1:23, it says that if we listen to His voice of correction and wisdom, His Spirit will help us understand His Words. What do you think God’s View is on the “Get Rich Quick” schemes in life? You did not think He noticed, did you? However, in Proverbs 28:20, God says His blessing is on the people who are faithful or consistent, but the ones who are always trying to make it in the lottery or trying to trick some other person for a quick cash deal, well, you read it and figure it out. In each of these passages of scripture and many more, God has given us a part in the decisions of what He will do toward us.

The Children of Israel limited the Holy One of Israel,” God, when they turned their back on Him. What might you be allowing or stopping God from doing for you?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God’s desire is for us to have a rewarding life. Not always happy, fun, or exciting, but rewarding. Taking us through the valleys of life helps us depend on Him even more. Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus. (Remind you of a tune you have sung? Well, sing it again and believe it. It is true.) When we do our part, God always keeps His promises. Trust him.

How might you take part in how God works in your life today?
