Now Where Did I Leave It?
March 29th, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 8:5-7
O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Have you ever lost something, anything? It doesn’t have to be something big. In fact, the smaller the item, the harder it seems for us to find it. You search everywhere. First, you look in the obvious places. Then you begin to search in weird places. You start looking for things like keys in the cookie jar or in the refrigerator, as if you somehow lost your mind and decided to chill the car keys. (OK, for those of you who went to the fridge to get something and accidentally left your keys in there, I’m sorry, I did not mean to say you lost your mind.)

The next thing we all do is blame everyone else in the house for our lost item. The kids, the wife, and the friends you had over last night – someone must have mistakenly taken them. Next, we blame everyone who even walked past the house. Maybe the mail carrier took the keys. Finally, you ask the dog, “What did you do with my keys?”

Guess where you will find your lost item? You know, don’t you? Usually, it is right where you left it.

So where do you think you might find out about real truth, real knowledge, and real wisdom? You’ll find it exactly where it has always been, from the beginning, in the pages of God’s Word. Who can find it? Anyone who looks for it can find it.

It calls to the simple ones, the young, begging them not to make foolish mistakes in their lives. It calls to those of us who foolishly thought that at one time we knew everything about life when we really knew nothing at all. Truth, knowledge, and wisdom have always been in the same place, in God’s Word.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Life began by the wisdom of God. Life is sustained by the wisdom of God. Eternal life was designed and delivered by the wisdom of God. It only makes sense, then, to live by the same wisdom. Seek the wisdom of God so He may bless your life.

Is real TRUTH so hard to find?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this Passage, and todays Devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Warning: This May Self-destruct
March 28, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 8:1- 4
Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Some things are logical; they just make sense. Things such as putting your bare hand in fire will result in a burn, or stepping in front of a speeding car will lead to injury. As a song once said, there are things you just do not do, like taking the Lone Ranger’s mask off or tugging on Superman’s cape. The best one was, you don’t spit into the wind. I hope that needs no explanation.

Yet today, we have warning signs on everything because, in today’s society, logic seems to have gone out the window. On a fast-food restaurant’s coffee cup, there are the words “Hot Coffee may be Hot.” Well, duh! Unless you ordered a Frappuccino, you would hope the coffee is hot. Have we gone crazy? On a curling iron, there is a warning that says, “For external use only.” On the side of a jar of peanuts, there’s a warning saying, “Warning: contains nuts!” What should be pure logic does not always seem to be so anymore. However, this is nothing new.

In today’s verses, Solomon says that wisdom and knowledge are calling out for people to come and acquire them. They’re beckoning from the hilltop, the city gates, and along the paths of life. Everywhere the path of life intersects with reality, we should acknowledge the fact that we do not live forever and need to contemplate eternity. The truth of the gospel is proclaiming, “Jesus Saves,” because that simply makes good logical sense. It’s logical to believe that the creator of all life would love His creation and desire to save it. However, all too often, we’ve let logic go by the wayside and pursue our own desires. Maybe God should put a warning label on newborns, something like “WARNING: Without Jesus, This Creation Will Self Destruct.”

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

God has been proclaiming His wisdom to us through the ages by various means – through the church, His Word, His mercy toward sinful man, and His supplied grace. What is He saying? “I Love You…Come to Me… I will help you.”

Doesn’t that sound logical to you?

Your Inner Voice Said What?
March 27, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 7:24-27
Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth. Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

How many times have you been told, or have you heard someone else being told to follow their heart? On the surface, this may sound like good advice. To follow what your heart tells you to do. Follow your dreams. Listen to your inner voice. However, the Bible often warns us against doing such a thing. Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

In our verses today, Solomon imparts his wisdom to his son, advising him not to allow his heart to be swayed by seductive women. Why? Because he emphasizes that even many STRONG men have fallen victim to such sexual sin. These aren’t individuals who are weak or easily deceived; they are powerful individuals who succumbed to the allure of this deceptive pleasure. Solomon doesn’t discourage following one’s heart; rather, he urges his son to steer his heart and not be misled by sin and its tempting falsehoods.

How might we guide our hearts, you may be asking? When looking back into Jeremiah, where it warned about our heart’s weakness, it also says in Jeremiah 17:5, “Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” What caused the curse? A heart departed from the LORD. How might we keep our heart? Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” Blessed is the person whose hope is in the LORD.

So, follow your heart, chase your dreams, and listen to that inner voice. However, do so only if your dreams align with fulfilling God’s will, if your inner voice is that of the Holy Spirit, and if your heart is grounded in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

The now-famous phrase “What Would Jesus Do” has helped many young people avoid making bad choices. Why not let it help us all? When we are faced with any type of temptation, we should ask ourselves, “What Would Jesus Do?”

Are you letting your inner voice lead?
If so, who is guiding your inner voice?
