Plan Your Work, Work Your Plan

MARCH 6 & 7, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 6:6-8Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Work hard, keep your nose to the grindstone, and make hay while the sun shines. These are sayings many of us heard when we were children. This has often been referred to as the American way. If you will stay out of trouble and work hard, you can be anything you want to be. People have proven this to be true over and over again.

However, it seems today, the American way has become waiting for a handout. Looking for someone else to care for life’s necessities. I know we have all had hard times and may need occasional help. This is often when the Church you are a member of will also step in to help one another during these times of need. I am not speaking here of those who need occasional assistance, those who are disabled, or people who cannot work. Yet sadly today we find many able-bodied people who have made living by handouts a way of life. Phrases such as, “play while you are young,” “you only go around once,” and “live with gusto,” seem to leave out the idea of planning for tomorrow. The Bible is clear, we are to plan financially, physically, and spiritually.

Scripture also tells us of rewards in heaven if we are diligent to follow God’s leading. Nevertheless, some Christians, who are good providers here in this life, have set up nothing for the life ahead. Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Spring is almost here. Most everyone is glad after a cold winter. However, with spring come ants. Everywhere you look, you will see them running here and there. They will start early preparing for next winter. As you see them running around, think to yourself, am I preparing also. Preparing for all that is to come.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Grab A Cookie, Let’s Have Some Fun

MARCH 05, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Is sin something we that we all learn? Is it a product of our environment? Do we sin because of our moms and dads and their sin? On the other hand, is it possible that sin is in us from the very beginning? Well, here is a little test you can try. Take a two- to four-year-old child and place them in a room with a plate full of freshly baked cookies. You know, all their favorites. The Chocolate ones, the sugar-coated ones, etc. Sit down for just a second, take one, and eat it. Be sure they see you. In fact, you might make that UM…UMM sound as you do. Then tell them you must go out of the room for a minute and just before you leave tell them, “don’t touch the cookies.”

I know, some of you just quit reading to go get a cookie of your own. Anyway, when you come back to the room with the child and the cookies you will more than likely find chocolate all around this child’s mouth. Now here is the test. Ask them in a stern voice, “Did you take a cookie?” Most will turn and shake their heads no. (That is because their mouth is still full of cookie, that cannot say no.)

Is this an abnormal terrible child? NO. This very normal child did not have to be taught to lie. We are all born with that tendency. Our verse today tells us soon after we are born, we begin to tell lies.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Have you quit telling lies yet? The terrible part is some people never quit. Oh, a little white lie will never hurt anyone, right? Wrong. God has forgiven us of our sin with the shed blood of Jesus. Yes, our sinful life began at birth. However, our new life where our sins have been paid for also begins with a birth. It was our second birth into the family of God. This second birth begins a new life in us. A life of sin paid for and the Holy Spirits leading. It is true. I am not lying! Thank Him today for the second birth.

You Are His SAVINGS PLAN

MARCH 04, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Numbers 2:33 But the Levites were not numbered among the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Some people are a lot better at saving things than others. I think that maybe some folks are just born with the idea of putting something away for later. Then there are the rest of us who struggle to save anything. We just want to have it all and have it all NOW. I tell people all the time, “Eat your dessert first because you never know when the rapture of the church will take place and you do not want to miss out on desert.” Yet, there are those diligent souls who always set a little bit aside. The have a Savings Plan. If you ask them why, they will most often tell you, “It is for something special.” Maybe for a vacation, a house, new clothes, or whatever. However, they have a special reason for setting that amount aside.

In our verse today we see that God did this with the Children of Israel. God told Moses to count all the people. That is, all the people except the Levites. He had a special reason. God had set the Levites aside for special purpose. They were different in His desire for them. They were the Priests of the day, set aside for a special work of God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In Revelations 1:5-6 we read “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.” Did you see that? We too have been set aside, made priests for the work of the Lord. Not only are we allowed entry into the Holy Place to commune with God in prayer, but we also have a responsibility that goes with this title. To be separated from the sin of this world and separated unto God. God set you aside for something special… You are His SAVINGS PLAN! His plan to save the world.

MARCH 03, 2021 – Would You Like To Be First?

Would You Like To Be First?

MARCH 03, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Luke 24:8-9 And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

For whatever reason it always seems that I can never manage to be first at things. I am always in the wrong line at the grocery store and end up waiting for hours as someone searches for his or her coupons and correct change. Searching down to the penny, which is buried somewhere in the bottom of their purse or pocket. Or at the drive through bank when it clearly says on the window only one or two transactions, the person in front of me wants to do a year’s worth of banking today. I just cannot seem to be first.

However sometimes awesome responsibilities come with being first. In the passage prior to today’s verses, women who loved Jesus had come to His tomb. They were the first to find it open and empty. In addition to being empty of the body of Christ, they also found this tomb was now inhabited by two angels who told them that Jesus had risen from the dead. Now what? They are the first witnesses of the resurrection of Christ. Do they keep this incredible information to themselves until they hear of someone else who has seen and heard something similar? Do they tell someone and run the risk of sounding crazy? What should they do?

They did the only thing they could do. They shared the great news that Christ our Saviour had risen from the tomb as He had said. Regardless of what the people around them might think or say, they had to tell someone. THEY WERE FIRST!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Guess what? We have the exact same good news to share today. Our Saviour has risen from the tomb. No other religion can make this claim to have a living risen Saviour. Only we who follow Jesus can share this well documented truth. Are you waiting for someone else to say it first before you might say something? Are you afraid people might think you are crazy? Let me ask you this. What will they think one second after they are dead if you do not tell them? Be the first one to see their eyes when they accept Christ and His salvation. Be First.

March 02, 2021 – To Love is To Forgive

2021-keywords-modified-header-croppedTo Love is To Forgive

MARCH 02, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

As a young boy I occasionally got into fights. I know you can never imagine it, but it is true. If someone would hit me, my first reaction was always to hit back. Sometimes if they just spoke to me with a cross word it was enough for me to start a fight with them. I guess I read the golden rule wrong. I thought it said, “do unto others…before they got a chance to do it to you.” I have since found out that the bible says in Matthew 7:12, “…whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: …” However, no matter the reason for the fight, as with most children, after a while, sometimes hours, maybe days, or on rare occasion weeks, I would finally forgive them or forget about it and all would seem well again. We would be playing together like nothing ever happened.

Sometimes forgiving seems hard. But can you imagine forgiving someone who is in the process of taking your life? In our verse today, this is what Jesus was doing. He looked at the Roman Soldiers who nailed Him to the cross and said, “Father, forgive them,” as they divide His clothes. Looking at the crowd which stood by, He said, “Father, forgive them,” as they watched and did nothing to stop this horrible crime. If that were not enough, did you ever stop to think that Jesus looked into the vast regions of time, looking at us, at our sin which caused Him to have to die on that cross and said, “Father, forgive them,” and when He said it, He meant YOU and ME.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Just as Jesus prayed for believers in John chapter 17, I believe He also prayed for us all in Luke 23:34, “Forgive them.” He was talking of all those who hung Him on the cross, and friend this includes you and me. His forgiveness is real if you will only accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. The payment for our sin was paid that day on the cross. Then, the one who paid the price said, “Father, forgive them.” What an awesome display of love in just those three words.
