Joy Is Contagious
SEPTEMBER 18, 2026
Daily Reading—Pro. 22-23 / 2 Co. 6
WHAT GOD HAS SAID:
2 Corinthians 2:1-2 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness. For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
WHAT I HAVE SEEN:
You look across a room and see someone yawn. It is not long until you find yourself yawning as well. You were not even tired until you saw them yawn. However, the power of suggestion is contagious.
Paul says to the church in Corinth, If I make you sad, then how can you comfort me? If you are sad, then you are going to make me sad. In 1 Cor. 2:3, he says, “that my joy is the joy of you all,” or, when you are happy, you make me happy. When we criticize and hurt others with whom we fellowship, their sorrow will, in turn, cause our sadness. Yet, if we encourage and bring joy into others’ lives, we, in turn, uplift ourselves. Joy is contagious.
WHAT WILL YOU DO:
Who might you encourage today? It may just be the joy you need tomorrow.
IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:
Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?
Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?
What actions will I take today or this week to meet this CHALLENGE?
