What Is A Name Worth?

MARCH 01, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 54:1 Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

When I served as a volunteer member of “On Call Chaplains” at our local hospital, they issued me a card. On that card was my picture, my title with the hospital, and my name. The card had a magnetic strip on the back, and it allowed me the privilege of getting in and out of most doors within the Hospital. With such privilege, I also carried certain responsibilities. I was not to share the card, lose it, or share information about patients I may have learned because of my position there. Although I had this card, there were restricted areas within the Hospital I could not get into. Why? Because my name had not been entered into the system as approved to be in these areas.

In today’s verse, we hear David crying out to God. He says, “Save Me.” How is it that he believes that God can save him? It is because of whom David knows God to be. His name alone shows the authority to save. Just the word GOD has such a special meaning to it. Some people have tried to attach this title to other items and call them gods. However, these other things cannot, and will not ever be the same as our real God. Deep in everyone’s heart, people know there is but one real and true God. David knew and said, “Save me, O God, by thy name.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God gave all power to His Son Jesus. We find in the Bible we are to pray in the precious name of Jesus. We include His name in baptisms. In the name of Jesus people have been healed. Demons have been cast out simply by uttering the powerful name of Jesus. In Phil. 2:10 it says, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.” If you are a child of God, you were changed forever, for all eternity, through this name. What is a name worth? If it is the right name, it is worth EVERYTHING.

Broken Or Destroyed?

FEBRUARY 27 & 28, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Luke 20:17-18And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

An old Jewish proverb says, “If the stone falls on the pot, alas for the pot; if the pot falls on the stone, alas for the pot.” It would seem that either way the pot is to be broken and of no use.

In our verses, we read of two ways in which the stone, which is a symbol of Jesus, might be used. If we choose to humble ourselves, fall on this stone, and become broken, God, the Master Potter can pick up those pieces and make something better and new out of them. However, if we wait until the stone falls on us, we are then ground to powder. The powder is mingled with the dirt below and becomes of no use. When the wind blows, the powder is blown here and there, never to be of any use to anyone.

I guess it comes down to our free will. We have the freedom to come and fall on the stone, Jesus, and to be broken and then used by Him for His honor and glory. On the other hand, we have the free will to wait and do nothing. In the end, the stone will then crush sin and the vessels that contain it. Either way, you will eventually come in contact with this stone. I once heard if you fall on a bolder, you will form to the image of that bolder. However, if that same bolder falls on you, you are destroyed.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Choices are often hard to make. However, this one seems easy. If you have never fallen on the mercy of God, I might invite you to do so now. If you have, it is time to praise God for what He is making of you. You are becoming a vessel worthy of Him that He can use. Once broken pieces, now molded together by the Master’s touch.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Putting Out The Fire

FEBRUARY 26, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 26:20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

There are a few of ways to stop a fire from burning. One is to quit putting wood or fuel on it. When there is nothing left to burn, it must stop. This is such a simple idea you might say, but we never seem to get it. The same is true of gossip in and out of Church. If we will quit feeding it, it will die. Do not listen to it, respond to it, repeat it, discuss it, or even ask another person to pray with you over the latest gossip so you have an excuse to share it. If you really want someone to pray about it, simply ask him or her to pray about a situation that included some gossip you are concerned about and would rather not share and drop it there. God knows what the situation is, so they do not need to.

Another way to put out a fire is to take the oxygen away. If there is no oxygen, there is no fire. I once read that a gossiper has used so much oxygen with their words that they have none left for their brain. The only other way to deal with gossip is head on. Tell the person they are gossiping, and you want no part of it. If believers would do this, you would find the gossiper would one of two things. Repent and quit gossiping or quit sharing with you and go find another place to spread the fire. I know this sounds cruel, but either one will make for a better church. How do I know? The Bible says so. “…where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Sharing a true prayer request is not gossip. We have people call all the time wanting us to pray about issues they deal with. It becomes gossip when we do not include God. When our motive is to tell the hurtful story and not to really be a help, we fall victim to the sin of gossip. You see, God wants to be part of everything in our life. However, He cannot help if were just telling tales about one another. He hates it when we talk bad about His family. Let’s put out the fire of gossip when we can.

FEBRUARY 25, 2021 – Life Is In The blood!

Life Is In The blood!

FEBRUARY 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Science has been able to do many marvelous things. They have transplanted a human heart to extend a person’s life. They have even had some success with a man-made mechanical heart, again extending life for a while. Yet, as of today, science and scientists have never created real blood. Do you know why? Blood needs to continually recreate and be refreshed from the bones in your body. Now I am not a scientist, but I can imagine where the continual recreation of new blood cells, every moment of every day, would cause a problem in creating blood.

In today’s verse, God said life was in the blood. Over time many people have attempted, whether on purpose or inadvertently, to take the blood out of what they refer to as versions of the Bible, and out of many of our wonderful old Hymns. Yet God says life is in the blood. My friend, you can transplant all the organs you may want to, yet without blood there is no life, they are useless.

What God said then is still true today. The blood still brings life. Blood not only sustains physical life but gives us eternal life as well. In the Old Testament, blood of animals was a temporary atonement for sin. However, the blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary was the one time, permanent, never having to be renewed payment for all sin. Just as a body must be alive to restore and recreate blood, Jesus Christ is alive today to stand behind the blood He shed. It is still working, still washing away sin, and still bringing life to those who will accept the blood of Christ to cleans them from their sin.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The blood of Jesus permanently pays the price of our sin debt. If you have been washed in His blood, it is forever. If you have never accepted the blood of Christ for payment of your sin, today is a great day to do so. Ask Him to forgive you, come into your heart, and wash away all your sins. He promised He would. Don’t keep working on a dead body. Get new life from the blood of Jesus Christ.

Being All That You Can Be!

FEBRUARY 24, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 49:6-7They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Wouldn’t it be nice to be rich and famous? Ok, maybe just rich. This seems to be the one goal of every American, young, and old. When you ask our youth today about what they would like to do with their life when they get out of school, you often get an answer like “I want to be this or that because they make lots of money!”

Now please, do not misunderstand understand what I am trying to say. I am not against Christians earning a good living, and even becoming wealthy. That is if God would see that they were going to be a good steward of His blessings of wealth in their lives. I do not find in Scripture where being wealthy is a sin. The problem occurs when the pursuit of this wealth, or of things becomes our life goal and this ambition then overshadows everything else we do. When this happens, we have put another god before the one true God. That new god is wealth or possessions.

I would love to hear a young person someday say, “I want to be this or that because I know this is what God has gifted me to do and I am sure it will bring glory to Him.” In addition, when asked, “What about the money?” They might reply with, “That’s up to God.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

You see, if you are a Christian, it is really up to God anyway. You will never be completely successful until you yield it all to Him. You can run and dabble and play in the world. Nevertheless, if you are a child of God, real success only comes after real yielding to Him. Let me borrow a well-known slogan for a second. “Be All That You Can Be.” Then if you will allow it, let me add this, “And all that God intended for you to be.
