Do You Feel Safe?

NOVEMBER 10, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

JAILED! INCARCERATED! IMPRISONED! LOCKED AWAY! All these words sound scary to most of us. The idea of being put somewhere, the doors locked, and never being able to get out, sounds way too restrictive. Most people just want to be free. Free to roam around and do what they will. Now if I use words like, SAFETY, PROTECTION, SECURITY, or PROVIDED FOR these words all sound good to us. Why? It gives us a sense of peace and happiness to know we are safe and taken care of. Guess what? People in jail are, for the most part, safe, protected, secure, and provided for. So, what makes the difference?

Jail and Prison are somewhere we are placed usually against our will. We do not choose to go there. We are placed there because we have violated others’ rights. However, if there was a riot in the streets and an abandon prison building really close, you might choose to go there for a time to escape the riot. You would be safe inside its walls.

In the past, villages would build walls around their city to keep out attackers. People today put in security systems, build fences, etc., just to feel safe. These are all just bigger borders we voluntarily place ourselves in for protection. We live in houses with locks, in cities with Police, in a State with a National Guard, and a nation with a military that protects us. We are free in the boundaries of our voluntary borders. Leave the country and you are warned when you go, “You go at your own risk, and we cannot guarantee your safety out there.” In our verse today, we can find safety in one word. The word is “IN.” Those who are IN Christ Jesus, you are safe, secure, protected, and provided for because you voluntarily placed yourself in Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Once you place yourself IN Him you are eternally safe. You can never leave Him. In case you forgot, He is everywhere, so where would you go? On the other hand, maybe you think you might be strong enough to break free from His hold. OOPS! That won’t happen either. Cause you are NOT THAT STRONG. You are safe IN JESUS!

Live Long And Prosper

NOVEMBER 09, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 9:10-11 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

I remember as a young boy watching a TV Science Fiction show, where one of the characters would often say, “Live Long and Prosper Captain.” It seemed like every time he would walk away to be beamed somewhere or to be separated for an extended time, he would say those words. What did he mean? “Live Long…” How does a person go about doing so? How do you live long? What is long? Is it 30 years, 50 Years, 100 years, or 200 Years? What would be considered long? So, If I were to walk up to you and say Live Long! What would go through your mind? Then there is, “And Prosper…” Prosper at what? Prosper in your job, your status in the community, wealth. What does it really mean to prosper?

Well, I do not have all the answers to all the questions that may be running through your mind right now. However, I can offer this. Our verses today say the beginning of wisdom is to fear, or reverence, the Lord. If you really want to have the wisdom it takes to survive in today’s world, you need to know Jesus. Why? Well, because He is Omniscient. That means He is ALL KNOWING. Need an answer? Ask someone who is All Knowing. He should have an answer. Today’s verses go on to say by doing so you will live longer. Your days shall be multiplied and the years of your life increased. How long will that be? We do not know. Nevertheless, it is a promise most people would want to have. Most people want a good long prosperous life. One that is as long as it can possibly be. So then, it stands to reason that with God on our side we may, “Live Long and Prosper.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

You may be wondering how living day by day as God leads is a prosperous life. Well, if you are in communication constantly with someone who knows all the answers to every question which ever was or will be, don’t you think this is sort of like “Insider Trading?” You have an inside track on a life that will glorify and please God who is the giver of all good gifts. Even though sometimes God might say in essence, “You don’t need to know today.” Even that is the right answer. To Know God is To Know Peace.

Who Can Do It ALL?

NOVEMBER 08, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 108:12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Do you need a hand fixing a car? Call someone who is licensed in Auto Mechanics, and they usually can fix you right up. Is there a room that needs painting? Call over a couple of friends and they can probably help you paint a room in no time. Having problems with the old pipes in your house clogging up? Call a plumber, they will snake out those old pipes or replace them with little problem. Is there a need for a broken heart to be mended? Need to be freed from an addiction? Need all the terrible things you have done in your life cleared away? Do you need your conscience to be clear? Have you found a need in your heart to be sure that when you die you will go to Heaven? There is no man on earth who can do these things.

People can point you toward God, remind you of the promises He has made and even join with you in prayer about something. However only God can mend a heart, break addictions grasp, cleanse us from our sin, and help us to know where we stand now, and in eternity. ONLY GOD.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Only God can fix our troubles. Maybe you have a situation that needs attention today. Let me point you to Him. He can and will listen and give you real help. Oh yes, by the way, all those other things I mentioned which man would help you with, (car, painting, plumbing,) God gave them the ability to do those things too. So really, God and God alone can fix every situation… even your car.

Who Are You Comfortable Around?

NOVEMBER 6 & 7, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…. And they’re always glad you came…” These were the first two lines of the opening song of a TV sitcom in the mid 80’s to 90’s. It centered around a local bar people seemed to gather at because everyone there made them feel welcome. These people just wanted to be around other people who were just like them.

Nothing has really changed. People just want to feel accepted and loved. They want to know there are others like them, with hurts and trials in life. They want someone to care about what happens to them. People want to be around other people who are just like them.

Why did Paul say he wanted to be around the church to which he was writing? He tells us, it was to find COMFORT in the company of people, who believed like him. He was being cursed at, mistreated, imprisoned, laughed at, and rejected. He longed to be around someone who understood. Does that sound familiar? The world today will cuss at you, mistreat you, imprison you with all types of vices and habits, then laugh when you are hooked, and reject you for what you have become. Therefore, I like church. Those churchy people know how I feel. They too have been laughed at for their faith this week. Just like me they have felt they did not fit in somewhere because of what was going on there. These people understand me and love me for who I am, and who God is through me. Because they love me this way, I cannot help but love them back in the same way they love me. I love to go to church where they all know my name. It is wonderful to be welcomed by people each week who are just glad you came. I like to be around people like me.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How about you? Where do you feel you fit best? Look around at the crowd you hang out with most often. What is the heart of your relationship with these people? Whatever you see in them, that is you! In the world, there are gangs, clubs, and social groups to try to help you fill this void. My friends are eternal. I will always get to hang out with them. What a comfort to know our Christian relationship is based on a REAL ETERNAL LOVE!

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

I Finally Know It All

NOVEMBER 05, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 5:6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Read this story as if you were saying these things. Are you ready? OK, let’s begin: Ok, now that I am ___ (You fill in the age, and be honest,) I finally understand life. I did not really understand it a year ago, three years ago, or five years ago. However, today I am sure I have it all figured out. Look at all the things I have learned from life. Those poor people who are not my age yet, when will they ever learn? Then there are all those people who are older than I am trying to tell me that this or that will not work. Where do those older people get off anyway? Older people have no idea what is happening today in today’s social and economic market. They are so old fashioned.

Sound familiar? At several points in life, we think we have life finally mastered. If you are honest, you have probably felt this way a time or two as well. Then just when you finally think you have it worked out, the bottom falls out of your dream or idea. Still, life continues to move along even though things seem to have changed for absolutely no reason. I saw a poster once with a frog sitting on a lily pad looking at another lily pad a way off and the caption read, “Just when you think you can make ends meet, someone moves the ends!” Oh, how true it seems to be. Why must life be this way?

Well, one reason is, the world collectively does not love you. In fact, they really do not even like you. You are a person in their scheme of getting ahead. PROGRESS, not people is what the world seems to care about today. When you are no longer helping them make progress, you become expendable. Today we see this all too often. There is very little of what we might recognize as stability in today’s world. Nothing seems to be sure anymore. Nevertheless, one thing that is sure and never changes is God. He said He would never leave you nor forsake you. Why, it is not because He likes you, it is because He truly LOVES and cares very much for you.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Are you looking for stability in an ever-changing world? Let me invite you to look to someone who is never ever changing. Look to God, He and His love are out of this world.
