AUGUST 27, 2026—Wise And Simple

Wise And Simple

Romans 16:19 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

Paul says to the church, “I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.” This is still good advice today. Many times, I have heard comments like, “Well, how will I know if it is bad if I don’t try it?” Meaning, “I want to play in sin, so I know if it’s wrong.” Really? Will you shoot yourself in the foot to know if it hurts? Shall I slap your face to see if it stings? That is a ridiculous thing to even think.

Paul’s advice was good back then and is still good today. Study to be wise about things you know to be good. Be simple (or innocent and uneducated) on the evils of this world. Sin is so bad that Jesus had to die to wash us clean from it.

AUGUST 26, 2026—Just Praise Him!

Just Praise Him!

Romans 15:9-11 And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name. And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

My life verse has been Hebrews 2:12, “Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.” I try to live this verse. I love to sing, especially about my Lord. I love to preach and witness about His grace and mercy that saved my soul and is available to all.

Romans 15:9-11 essentially says the same thing. It says that because of God’s mercy, people will sing, rejoice, praise, and laud (which means “celebrate”) His name. Stop and think of what God did when He devised a plan to save our souls from sin’s penalty. The death of His Son was the cost of that plan, and yet, He carried it out because of His love for you.

AUGUST 25, 2026—Everyone Wear White Socks

Everyone Wear White Socks

Romans 14:1-3 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

As a young boy, if I wore dark-colored socks, my feet would sweat and smell terrible. It was so bad that my sister caught me sleeping and sprayed Lysol on them. My dad had a similar issue and told me that if I wore white socks, it would help. He was right; it did. So, to this day, I wear white socks. Now, how crazy would it be for me to tell everyone to wear white socks for them to be a good Christian? Socks, or any apparel for that matter, will not determine a person’s salvation.

I think we should always do our best for the Lord, including what we wear. However, one person’s best may be a lot different from another person’s best. God does not look at the outward appearance; He looks at the heart.

AUGUST 24, 2026—Love Is Not Optional

Love Is Not Optional

Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

I grew up in the 60’s when the Beatles were popular. They sang a song entitled “All You Need Is Love.” Whether they realized it or not, the Bible said that long before they did. It says we are to love our neighbor as ourselves. You might be thinking, what if they are adulterers, homosexuals, drug addicts, or murderers? Are we to also love them? The answer is yes.

The Bible tries to help us see the difference between the person committing sin and the sin itself. Sin is what sinners do. Jesus died for the sinner to cleanse them from their sin. We can and should hate sin. However, we can and should love the sinner. Remember, we as believers are sinners who have been saved by grace.

AUGUST 22 & 23—It’s A Matter Of Preference

It’s A Matter Of Preference

Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

In Romans 12, Paul gave the church a list of things to help strengthen the church and its believers. One issue that he touches on is our affection and attention. Truth is, we linger near what we love. I am affectionate toward my wife because I love her. Therefore, I give her my attention over everyone else. Why, because I prefer to be with her and have found that I learn to love her more because of the time we spend together.

Paul says we as the church ought to be affectionate toward one another and, actually, preferring one another. That would mean we would long to spend time with the church and give our attention to them. If you do not have that relationship with your church, maybe you are not spending enough time with them.
