Monkey See, Monkey Do

July 21, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 26:35
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Oh, how easy it is to get caught up in the moment. We want so much to do what is right, and yet sometimes we find ourselves doing just the opposite. Our desire as Christians is to do what is right in the eyes of God, but we find ourselves being deceived at times into doing something else. Satan often uses subtle trickery to confuse us into doing the wrong thing. His craftiness is so clever that at times it may even appear as though we are doing what is right. Especially if we see other believers that we trust doing the same thing. It is like a Christian version of Monkey see monkey do.

In our verse today we find Peter telling Jesus that there was no way he would ever betray or leave Him. Even though Jesus had plainly told Peter, in the presence of all the disciples, that this was exactly what was going to happen. Peter’s human logic said no way. In addition, when the other disciples heard Peter’s statement, it seemed to make sense to them also. Why would they ever leave the Lord of Lords? Why would they walk away from someone who had proved Himself to be the Son of the Living God? Leaving just did not make sense. However, Jesus said it would happen, just before they said it would not.

No matter what we seem to understand with our logic, if God has said differently, believe God. He is never wrong. However, if we find ourselves deceived and on the wrong side of the fence, it is good to know that when we repent, God forgives and restores our fellowship as if it never happened. In Acts 1, just before Jesus ascended back into heaven, Peter and all the other disciples were together. Jesus gave all the disciples, including Peter, the responsibility to carry on His ministry. It was obvious that our loving Saviour had totally forgiven them.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we go through this day, let’s pray God will help us to walk by faith and not only by sight. Walking and talking with the Lord as He, through the Holy Spirit, guides our steps.

Have you lived by the example of man, or the example of God?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 18:36
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

As a Pastor, I have had the joy of traveling to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with our youth group. While we were there, we went to see a waterfall that was way back in the hills. You had to follow a neatly groomed trail for about a quarter of a mile. When we finally arrived, there was a waterfall that dropped well over 100 feet from a cliff above us to a rocky bed below and then flowed calmly under a viewing platform which we stood on to see the beauty of God’s creation. Nothing seemed too dangerous, although to vary from the path could have been trouble.

Several of our youth and adults decided it would be neat to climb out on these rocks just below the falls and get a closer look at God’s handiwork. It was very evident from the foot-beaten paths that others had been doing this for years. As they disappeared out of my sight, I began quietly to pray, Lord, protect them, and keep them safe. As I watched for a while, I saw them jumping from rock to rock. I again prayed, Lord, please do not let them get hurt, how will I ever explain this to our church? My fears were based on my perception of what I assumed was there, not my sight. Finally, my curiosity and concern got the best of me, and I went down to join them. When I got there, I was relieved to find large dry rocks to walk on. God provided in nature large areas to walk where our feet would not slip.

In our daily walk with God, we cannot always see what He has provided for us until we take a step of faith. However, we can know with all certainty that He has said in Hebrews 13:5, “… I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today let’s look for the areas where God has enlarged our steps. When sin comes up to tempt us, but the Holy Spirit reminds us of a scripture to protect us from that sin, He has enlarged our steps. When trials come our way and a Christian friend comes to comfort and strengthen us, God has enlarged our steps. “Thank you, God, for helping me to walk through this world today, Amen.”

How have you seen God enlarge your steps in life?

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. Do You Want What The Neighbor Has?

July 18, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Ecclesiastes 5:10, 11
He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Sometimes we forget what is valuable. We look at our neighbor with their boat and think, “If I only had a boat, I would be happy.” So, we work lots of extra hours to get the money to buy the boat, only to find it costs a lot of money to maintain a boat. Therefore, we must work more hours to maintain the boat and then find it takes up a lot of space to store a boat. Again, we work more hours to be able to pay for the place to store the boat. Then there is the license, the yearly cleaning and preparing of the boat to go in and out of the water, the docking fees, the gas, repairs, and so on and so on. After all the time spent earning the money and taking care of the boat, we find we have little time left to go out on the boat and enjoy it. That was the reason we thought the neighbor was so happy, to begin with. I have heard it said that the two happiest days in a man’s life are when he buys his first boat and when he sells his first boat.

In life, some people live much the same way. They spend their entire life chasing riches that will flee from them. The more we have, the more we want. The more we want, the more protective we become of what we think we have obtained. Also, we find that more of our valuable time is consumed in getting and keeping all that stuff. In addition, when we get to the end of our life we look back and see, all we really had to enjoy was time. And sadly, now that is gone too.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In a few more verses after today’s text in Ephesians 5:15-16, it says, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Satan loves to see Christians waste their time and their resources on worldly possessions that will be left behind at life’s end. We need to look ahead and see where we need to spend our TIME. Time is one of the most valuable gifts God has given us. Also, do not forget to spend some of that time thanking God for this gift called LIFE as well.

How will you invest your great gift of TIME today?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 22:14
For many are called, but few are chosen.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

For most of us, we could not even imagine receiving an invitation to a dinner party being thrown by the President. When he was asked how many will be at the party, the President said, “That will depend on how many respond to the invitation.” It was his desire for everyone who received an invitation to come. However, he also knew some would find something else to be more important or think the invitation was a joke and not respond to it. All were invited, but only those who responded were chosen to sit with the president that day.

Many people have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Untold millions upon millions have heard the good news that by trusting Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour you can be saved. Many have been told Jesus died for them on the cross of Calvary, was buried in a cold damp tomb, and rose again the third day. Countless numbers of people know He went to heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father. Nevertheless, only a fraction of those who have heard accept the call to be saved. There are so many people, who do not receive salvation, and they do so by refusing Jesus’ invitation. Many say not today, later, and go off into eternity without Christ. Only a few are chosen to sit at the wedding banquet with Jesus. Not everyone invited by God will be among the chosen of God. Millions will wait and reject Christ until it is too late.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The invitation is there. The call has gone out. Are you listening today? Have you heard and responded to His plea to take Him as Saviour? If you have, rejoice in the fact you are among the chosen to sit with Christ. If not, it is all up to you. The invitation is there right now. I promise it is not a joke, and there is nothing more important in all of eternity. You have been invited.

Have you accepted God’s invitation of a lifetime?

What Is The Truth?

July 16, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 16:5
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

It seems like today, many people are against the work of God’s people. The popular view is the order of today. It is not about what is right or even what is wrong, it’s simply whatever man wants. The democracy of humanity rules today’s morals. If enough people proclaim something to be right, with a loud enough voice, for a long period of time, people begin to believe it must be so.

For example, some Christians today are confused over the claim that homosexuality is a lifestyle determined at birth. A prolonged battle, loud opposing voices, and financially backed claims have clouded the truth of scripture. Even though God proclaims in all of scripture that this way of life is sinful, since man now proclaims it is not, we must make laws and spend thousands of hours and dollars in our courtrooms to keep homosexuality away from our children in school. Why? Because we have begun to believe the lie spoken by man.

If this is a lifestyle from birth, and God creates all people, God has then created them to do something He repeatedly says He hates. Yet the same Bible says He loves all men. Something is wrong here. What is it? It is that man has begun the process of discarding parts of the truth. God hates sin yet loves humanity. So, this sinfulness could not be created by God. People have joined hand in hand, promoting this sinful life. God does not hate people, He hates sin. All sin.

This is but one example. The same is true in churches, homes, and businesses worldwide. Selecting the truth of the scripture, we want to obey and discard the rest. The Bible says those who do so “shall not be unpunished.” Or should we also toss that part out of the Bible?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

We must again realize that the entire Word of God is true, not just the parts that fit our current lifestyle. We should mold our lives after the Bible and not mold the Bible to fit our lives.

How do you mold your life to meet the desires of God?
