Do You Feel Safe?
November 10, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

JAILED! INCARCERATED! IMPRISONED! LOCKED AWAY! All these words sound scary to most of us. The idea of being put somewhere, the doors locked, and never being able to get out, sounds way too restrictive. Most people just want to be free. Free to roam around and do what they will. Now, if I use words like SAFETY, PROTECTION, SECURITY, or PROVIDED FOR, these words all sound good to us. Why? It gives us a sense of peace and happiness to know we are safe and taken care of. Guess what? People in jail are, for the most part, safe, protected, secure, and provided for. So, what makes the difference?

Jail and Prison are somewhere where we are usually placed against our will. We do not choose to go there. We are placed there because we have violated others’ rights. However, if there was a riot in the streets and an abandoned prison building close by, you might choose to go there for a time to escape the riot. You would be safe inside its walls.

In the past, villages would build walls around their city to keep out attackers. People today put in security systems, build fences, etc., just to feel safe. These are all just bigger borders we voluntarily place ourselves in for protection. We live in houses with locks, in cities with Police, in a State with a National Guard, and in a nation with a military that protects us. We are free within the boundaries of our voluntary borders. Leave the country, and you are warned when you go, “You go at your own risk, and we cannot guarantee your safety out there.” In our verse today, we can find safety in one word. The word is “IN.” Those who are IN Christ Jesus, you are safe, secure, protected, and provided for because you voluntarily placed yourself in Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Once you place yourself IN Him, you are eternally safe. You can never leave Him. In case you forgot, He is everywhere, so where would you go? On the other hand, maybe you think you might be strong enough to break free from His hold. OOPS! That won’t happen either. Cause you are NOT THAT STRONG. You are safe IN JESUS!

What does it mean to you to be IN Christ Jesus?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself what MY THOUGHTS are concerning this Passage and today’s Devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 108:12
Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Do you need a hand fixing a car? Call someone who is licensed in Auto Mechanics, and they usually can fix you right up. Is there a room that needs painting? Call over a couple of friends, and they can probably help you paint a room in no time. Having problems with the old pipes in your house clogging up? Call a plumber, they will snake out those old pipes or replace them with little problems. Is there a need for a broken heart to be mended? Need to be freed from an addiction? Need all the terrible things you have done in your life cleared away? Do you need your conscience to be clear? Have you found a need in your heart to be sure that when you die, you will go to Heaven? No man on earth can do these things.

People can point you toward God, remind you of the promises He has made, and even join with you in prayer about something. However, only God can mend a heart, break addictions, grasp, cleanse us from our sin, and help us to know where we stand now, and in eternity. ONLY GOD.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Only God can fix our troubles. Maybe you have a situation that needs attention today. Let me point you to Him. He can and will listen and give you real help. Oh yes, by the way, all those other things I mentioned that man would help you with (car, painting, plumbing), God gave them the ability to do those things too. So really, God and God alone can fix every situation, even your car.

What can you imagine that God can not handle?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 42:10
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

“Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen; nobody knows my sorrow…”  Oh, woe is me. IS ANYONE PAYING ATTENTION HERE? I AM HURTING AND WANT SOMEONE TO SEE! This sounds too familiar. When people are in physical pain or emotional distress, it is hard to think of anything, much less anyone else. Our full attention is on ourselves and our problems. We begin to think, “Someone ought to be paying attention to me; I paid attention to them when they were hurting.” Truth be told, if you did pay attention to others in their time of need, then you could probably look around and see a host of people gathered to support you now. Still, when our eyes are on ourselves, it is hard to see others.

As I read this passage of scripture, I found it interesting to see just when it was God who released Job from his captivity of the calamities that Satan had brought his way. Job was not only released but also restored, and even more so when he took his eyes off his situation and prayed for his friends. When Job interceded on behalf of his friends, the Lord removed the trials and health problems. Why, it is because the characteristics of Christ were shown through him in his love for others. His concern was not just for himself. Job displayed absolute true humility.

One of the best ways to cope with life’s struggles is through a two-step process. Step one: Find a quiet place to be alone with God and bare your heart to Him. Cry if need be. Beg if you need to. Do whatever is required to give all your concerns to Him. Then get up and trust that He truly will deal with it. Step two: Find someone to help with his or her struggles. Getting your focus on others always helps to lose sight of your immediate situation, and it also makes you feel good to know you are using the gifts God gave you to help someone else.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Are you in the midst of trials or terrible circumstances? Do you want to be free from them? Give them to God and go on to help someone else. You just might be God’s answer to someone else’s prayer today. Who knows, they might be the answer to yours!

What will you focus on today?

Who Are You Comfortable Around?
November 6, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 1:12
That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…. And they’re always glad you came…” These were the first two lines of the opening song of a TV sitcom in the mid-80s to 90s. It centered around a local bar where people seemed to gather because everyone there made them feel welcome. These people just wanted to be around other people who were just like them.

Nothing has really changed. People just want to feel accepted and loved. They want to know there are others like them, with hurts and trials in life. They want someone to care about what happens to them. People want to be around other people who are just like them.

Why did Paul say he wanted to be around the church to which he was writing? He tells us it was to find COMFORT in the company of people who believed like him. He was being cursed at, mistreated, imprisoned, laughed at, and rejected. He longed to be around someone who understood. Does that sound familiar? The world today will cuss at you, mistreat you, imprison you with all types of vices and habits, then laugh when you are hooked, and reject you for what you have become. Therefore, I like church. Those churchy people know how I feel. They, too, have been laughed at for their faith this week. Just like me, they felt they did not fit in somewhere because of what was happening there. These people understand me and love me for who I am, and who God is through me. Because they love me this way, I cannot help but love them back in the same way they love me. I love to go to church where they all know my name. It is wonderful to be welcomed by people each week who are just glad you came. I like to be around people like me.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How about you? Where do you feel you fit best? Look around at the crowd you hang out with most often. What is the heart of your relationship with these people? Whatever you see in them, that is you! In the world, there are gangs, clubs, and social groups to try to help you fill this void. My friends are eternal. I will always get to hang out with them. What a comfort to know our Christian relationship is based on REAL ETERNAL LOVE!

In the next 50 to 100 years,
will you be hanging out with your friends of today?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 31:1
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

What have you promised your body lately?

Did you promise yourself that if you behave really well this week, do not eat too much, and exercise a little, that this weekend you could have a double chocolate fudge brownie with hot fudge on top, ground pecans with whipped cream, and a cherry on top? Did you promise your arms and legs a little R&R after working extra hard? Whether we think about it or not, we do make promises to ourselves. Some promises are better than others.

However, what promises have you made to your eyes? What have you promised them besides maybe a little rest? Have you promised your eyes you would not look at anything sinful on purpose? Do you dare make yourself that promise? Could it be you are afraid, perhaps this may cut into your TV programs? Would such a promise maybe change the magazines you read? Might it stop you from going somewhere you wanted to go? Can you make a covenant with your eyes, not to look at sin as satisfying, not to view filth as fine, and not to see worldliness as wisdom? Can you make this covenant… this promise… this contract… with your eyes?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If you are a Christian, you somewhat already made this covenant when you gave yourself to God. See, God detests looking at sin. It is sickening to Him when He sees it. Sin cost Him His only Son. Sin made Him watch as His Son Jesus was beaten, spit on, slapped, and crucified. God hates sin. When you look at sinful things in this world as a believer with the Holy Spirit in you, you take God with you.

What did you make God watch through your eyes yesterday?
What will you cause Him to look upon today?
