What’s On Your Mind?

January 6, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 9:3-4
And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in our hearts?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever gone through a haunted house at the Fair or some Amusement Park? As you come around a corner, something suddenly jumps out and scares you half to death. It is scary and yet at the same time, it is fun because we know it was planned this way. This frightening experience was designed not to hurt us but for our enjoyment. As they designed it, they knew how our minds would react to what they did. This type of planning is not really mind-reading; it simply knows the nature of people. The idea of someone actually being able to read our minds moment by moment seems rather intimidating. This means EVERY thought we have they would know.

Well, the Bible passage we read above teaches us Jesus can do just that. He knows every thought we have. That means our harsh thoughts toward someone, and the “get even” mindset we sometimes have. He knows everything. Some would probably say, “I don’t like it.” However, this means Jesus can also hear those good thoughts in our hearts. He can hear our praise toward Him and our worship of Him. I guess that would be the reason why Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 10:5, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” We should bring even our thoughts into captivity and use them to praise and honor our God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you go through the day from time to time, think about this. If what you were thinking were being played over a loudspeaker or displayed on a big screen for all to see, would it be pleasing to those around you? Here is something else to ponder. Consider the thoughts you are thinking right now… are also running through the mind of Jesus. It might change the way we think on things.

Does today’s devotions cause you
to think about what you think about?

Guard Your Heart

January 4 & 5, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

We put up fences to guard our yard from outsiders and to guard others from our pets. We build large buildings with locks to protect our belongings. We put our money in safe places like a bank or a vault. Why, because all of these things are of value to us. However, how do we guard our hearts?

In Proverbs, we are told to keep or guard our hearts because it is where all of life stems from. How do we do that? The verses that follow this one in chapter 4 of Proverbs help us with this idea.

Verse 24 says to put away a “forward mouth,” and “perverse lips.” To be froward is to be crooked or departing from what is right. Do you want to guard your heart? Keep your conversations and your mind on what is right. Do not get sidetracked into thinking about things that are sinful and wicked. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” God wants our minds focused on what is right so our mouths will say what is right. Be careful not to be mean to others as we may hurt them deeply with our words.

Verses 25-26 say to keep your eyes on the path before you. Keep focused on what really matters. The eyes are a great tool that God has blessed us with. Nevertheless, Satan likes to use them to bring temptations our way. It happened to Eve. It happened to David with Bathsheba. Do not let Satan drag you off course.

Vs 27 says to keep on keeping on. Do not let the world entice you. Guarding our heart will help us in our talk and our walk with Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Matt. 6:33-34 tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and not to be too concerned about tomorrow because as you well know, there will be plenty to deal with tomorrow already. So, plan ahead, but do not worry about it until you get there. Keep walking the path set forth for today and let God guide you in your walk.

Where will God guide your steps today?

Love Gives…

January 3, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 5:43-44 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Society today is so much, “give me” oriented. It is like saying, “if I will give you my love, then what’s in it for me?” But this is not true love. Real love is someone showing adoration and compassion for something or someone else. If you really love something or someone you should not be looking for what you get, but how can I give. When you came to Jesus, you loved Him because He first loved you. How did you know that He loved you? You knew because He gave of Himself for you when you had nothing to give back that was equal to the value of what He gave. He also knew you would never be able to give Him anything that could repay what He had done at Calvary. Still, He loved you enough to do it anyway.

So now, because of His love for you, you naturally want to do something for Him. Why, because you love Him and that is what love is really about. Love is about giving. Not giving to see what more you might get, but giving because you have already received His most valuable gift available, His love. John 3:16 says, “God so loved the world that He GAVE…”

In our passage in Matthew today we are told we are even to love our enemies. How do you love an enemy? GIVE. Give them some time to get to know you. Give them the most precious thing you have, Jesus. Bless them, do well for them, and pray for them.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If love is really giving, then how can you show your love today to your spouse, children, or friends? I guess the real question is what you might give to them to show them your love. Not because you will get, just because. Oh, by the way… When you give love unselfishly as God does, watch out… that love always seems to come back at you through the ones you love. Maybe that is what God had in mind! What do you think?

How might you show God’s Love through you by giving today?”

News Worth Reading…

January 2, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 2:10-11 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Television, Radio, Internet, and the Daily Newspaper all claim they have the most accurate coverage of what is happening. They even tell you that being informed is your right. This right to know everything is often declared as part of the Freedom of Information Act or our Freedom of Free Speech. Our Constitutional Rights are something Americans have fought hard for over the years. Now technology has allowed us to know what is happening within moments of its occurrence. Sometimes the news we get does indeed help, but often it really makes little difference in our lives at all. It is generally useless information that changes nothing in our daily lives, and sometimes it is incorrect information at that.

I do however know where there is information that will influence your day today, and it is always accurate. In our verses in Proverbs today we are told when wisdom enters into our heart, and knowledge is something that pleases our inner soul, then we will be able to decide correctly for ourselves what is right and what is wrong. These verses also tell us that by having the wisdom only God can share and being confident that this information is always 100% correct, it will keep you all the days of your life.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

OK, now you want to know all of what God says, and you want to know everything today. Well, I am sorry, but unless you can read all of God’s Word today and absorb all of what you read, you probably cannot know it all today. However, you can know this, if you know Jesus as your Saviour, the Holy Spirit who resides in you knows the whole book from front to back. If you will allow Him, He will guide you in the paths of righteousness. This does not get you off the hook of reading God’s Word. The Bible and its wisdom are what the Holy Spirit will use to guide you. So read some, believe it all, ask God for direction, and walk in the Lord. Now finally, there really is some news worth reading.

How will absorb God’s Good News today?”
