Why Do We Meet On Sunday?

NOVEMBER 02, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Why do most Churches today meet on Sunday? Some have said we violate scripture by meeting on Sunday rather than the Jewish Sabbath Day. Some will say we meet on Sunday just because it was more convenient for merchants and farmers years back. Some have absolutely no idea at all why we meet on Sunday, they just come to church and worship. Truth be known, you can worship and should worship God on every day of the week. So why do we gather on Sunday?

Because the Bible gives an illustration of how we ought to conduct His Church. It tells us clearly, who should and should not be Pastors, Deacons, and leaders in God’s church. It tells us what we should be doing, singing psalms, praising God, and preaching His Word. Also, what we should not be doing, (Read the books of Corinthians. It is too long to spell out here.) The Bible also spells out for us what day the disciples meet with the Church to worship. Disciples are the followers and those who studied the Word of God. It says, “upon the first day of the week,” they gathered to break bread and preach the Word of God. Just as we do. The early church is our example. The Apostles lead the church. They too are our example. The first day of the week was then called the Lords Day, as it was the day our Lord rose from the tomb. Therefore, Jesus most of all is our example. Why do we meet on Sunday? Well, because we want to do as Gods Word says and gather together to worship our Lord and break bread on the first day of the week.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Did you take time this week to worship God with other believers? Did you gather with them in the House of God and hear the Word of God preached? Be sure to take time out to meet with God’s people. By doing so, you also meet with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Head of the church; the church is the body of Christ, and the Holy Spirit indwells the believer. “upon the first day of the week…” Join us.

Do You Own Things Or Do Things Own You

NOVEMBER 01, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 1:32-33 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever heard the saying “If you give a man enough rope, he will hang himself?” What does that mean? I believe it might have something to do with today’s verses. Why would people turn from the wisdom of the Word of God? Especially people who claim to believe there is one true God. I could somewhat understand a person who believes there might be another god or no god not paying any attention to the warnings in God’s Word. However, why would any person who says they believe there is a Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit turn from the wisdom of God’s Word? The problem may be that they believe “in” and not “on” God. It might just be they have been given enough rope to hang themselves.

Let me explain. It usually begins with just a little success, a little prosperity, a little of what the world calls happiness. As the days go by and quickly turn into weeks, months, and years people begin to feel safe in their success and fall into the trap of believing there is no way this will change. That is when it happens. They have begun to believe in themselves more than they believe in God. They might subconsciously think they do not need a God. In fact, some begin to wonder if there really is a God after all. They begin to subconsciously think, “Look how long I have gotten away with not obeying what the Bible says. I have had no problems, no worries, and no God helping me. I earned it all myself.” So, there you have it. As the verse above says, “the prosperity of fools” destroys them. In the end, they hang themselves with their own stuff. THINGS took them from God. THINGS kept them from God. THINGS send them to a place called Hell. Sadly, this is a place where they will have no more THINGS.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you go through this day, look at the things you have acquired. As you see each one, take a moment to thank God who gave these things to you. Thank Him for it and ask Him how you might use it to glorify Him. In Colossians 1:16 it says that all THINGS were created by Him and for Him. If all THINGS are created for Him, you should thank Him for allowing you to play with His THINGS.

God Is Always There For You

OCTOBER 30 & 31, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 19:25-26 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever felt life was all going bad? Your entire day seemed to be one catastrophe after another. Nothing you did went right. At the end of the day, you just want to get in bed, cover your head, and pretend as if it all never happened. Tomorrow, you say, will have to be better. Well do not feel alone, everyone has had those days.

However, our worst day probably was not as bad as the worst day in Job’s life. He lost his home, his living, his livestock, his children, his servants, and his health. All he really had left was his wife, and she wanted him to curse God and die. Does your day seem so bad now?

During those bad times, if you are like most people, we tend to ask why God is doing this to me. What did I do to deserve this? So did Job, kind of. He asked why he was ever born in the first place. Why could he not have died at birth? Yup, now that is a bad day. However, in our verses today in Job 19:25, 26 Job says something interesting. He never gave up on God, and he knew God had not given up on him. Why, because he saw how God had been real to him in the good times. He had a real relationship with a real God and no number of bad days or terrible circumstances could make that go away.

Bad days come and go. You will probably have another one someday. (You probably did not want to hear that right now, right?) Nevertheless, one thing that will never change in your life is God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. A preacher once said to me, “if you will get a grip on God’s hand in the daylight, you will not have to go searching for it in the dark.” That sounded good to me then and still seems like great advice today. Grab God’s hand, never let go, and let Him lead. Your bad day will not be as bad with God by your side.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

God’s Take On The Economy

OCTOBER 29, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In today’s economy it is hard to understand the idea of, “If I give away some of my money, I will be better off.” This idea just seems to go against the grain of everything we have learned about economics. Like “saving for a rainy day” or “a penny saved is a penny earned.” However, let’s just look at it for a second shall we.

This Corinthian church was giving to another group of people who they did not even know. Setting aside money for others, they had never met. Some might call this tossing money into the wind. However, God has said he would supply for our needs through men. We read in Luke 6:38 where God says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Therefore, for God to keep His Word, people must also give. However, where do people get the money to give in the first place? It comes through other people in gifts, or a job given to you! So, who encourages these people to give or not to give to you? The answer is God does through the Holy Spirit. If you are a giver, then God has no problem wanting people to bless your life. If you are a scrooge, you only get the little bits you can scrape together. Isn’t it funny how some people seem to get more and more blessing from God, while others just get by? OK, so it is not funny. Truly, it is somewhat sad. It is sad many people have not learned the joy of giving to God and watching Him bless them in so many different ways. It is still Economics 101. In order to gain you must invest. So where are you investing?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”  Your God is truly able to supply all your needs, if you will gladly give your all to Him.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus

OCTOBER 28, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 28:21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

It is great to have a friend. Someone you know you can trust and rely on.

Everyone wants to be liked. Everyone wants to be admired for who he or she is. Today you see people everywhere doing whatever it takes to be liked. It happens in the schools. Teens will compromise their principles simply to fit in with the groups. It happens in the work force. Employers are asking more of employees and giving back less. However, people do what is necessary because they want to be liked, accepted, and want to succeed. It may even seem if you do not do as others ask, then the supposed friendship is over. Why might it appear to be over? Well, because if we do not do what is expected someone else will, and he or she then appears to be his or her best friend.

The Bible warns us about this attitude. “For a piece of bread,” a friend will leave you. If so, that friendship was not based on love or respect, but on selfishness. The world we live in today does not think of what they can do for you, but rather, what will you do for them. A mindset of, if what is happening around me today does not benefit me, I am out of here.

God’s Word tells us as Christians are to do just the opposite. It is not about what can I get, but what can I give. The Bible does not say go find people to love you, but rather, go love your neighbor. Jesus said that He did not come to earth to be ministered to, but instead to minister to others. We need not spend so much time trying to please man, better still, just be a good friend. Please God with all you do, and you will have a real friend for all eternity.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If we are going to be more Christ like, we are going to have to get our eyes off self and back on the Saviour. In Luke 9:48 Jesus held a child and said, “he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” This world needs a friend. A real friend. Be the best of friends and introduce them to an eternal friend, one who will never forsake them. Jesus.
