Sound The Alarm, This Is Important

JULY 22, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Joel 2:1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand;

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

God told the children of Israel decades before the Tribulation Period to be prepared. Was God’s time clock off? Why in the world would He have them ready way before Jesus had even been born, before Jesus had died on the cross of Calvary and rose, before He even ascended back into heaven?

He was telling them exactly what He is telling us, watch and be ready to see what I will do. He wanted them to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. To be vigilant, for His hand is always at work. He wanted them to be ready to serve Him at a moment’s notice. To continually watch to see how they might be a willing and joyful servant. He knew this is how they would want to be found, watching and serving as He might return at just anytime.

He is telling us the same thing today. Blow the trumpet. Let everyone know. Sound the alarm. The churches need to preach the gospel. Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble. Share with everyone about the power and might of God and His judgment to come. For the day of the Lord cometh, yes friend it will not be long until He returns for His own. He knows this is how we would want to be found, watching and serving at the moment of His return. He might return at just anytime. Watch and be ready.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today might be the day He comes. Are you really prepared? Have you told everyone you need to tell? His return very well might be today.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

JULY 21, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 26:35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Oh, how easy it is to get caught up in the moment. We want so much to do what is right, and yet sometimes we find ourselves doing just the opposite. Our desire as Christians is to do what is right in the eyes of God, but we find ourselves being deceived at times into doing something else. Satan often uses subtle trickery to confuse us into doing the wrong thing. His craftiness is so clever that at times it may even appear as though we are doing what is right. Especially if we see other believers that we trust doing the same thing. It is like a Christian version of monkey see monkey do.

In our verse today we find Peter telling Jesus that there was absolutely no way he would ever betray or leave Him. Even though Jesus had plainly told Peter, in the presence of all the disciples, that this is exactly what was going to happen. Peter’s human logic said no way. In addition, when the other disciples heard Peter’s statement, it seemed to make sense to them also. Why would they ever leave the Lord of Lords? Why would they walk away from someone who had proved Himself to be the Son of the Living God? Leaving just did not make sense. However, Jesus said it would happen, just before they said it would not.

No matter what we seem to understand with our logic, if God has said different, believe God. He is never wrong. However, if we find ourselves deceived and on the wrong side of the fence, it is good to know that when we repent, God forgives and restores our fellowship as if it never happened. In Acts 1, just before Jesus ascends back into heaven, Peter and all the other disciples were together. Jesus gave all the disciples, including Peter, the responsibility to carry on His ministry. It is obvious that our loving Saviour had totally forgiven them.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we go through this day, let’s pray God will help us to walk by faith and not only by sight. Walking and talking with the Lord as He, through the Holy Spirit, guides our steps.

But It Is Only One!

JULY 20, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

I have heard people describe others who were just cutting up and having fun, “those people are acting like they are drunk!” Why would they use such a term to explain their carefree actions? It is because that is exactly what alcohol will do to you. You do and say things you normally would not do or say. Only with alcohol, you have very little control of your behavior.

In our verse today it says, “Wine is a mocker.” A mocker is something or someone that teases and makes fun of others. They make promises that cannot be kept. Wine and all alcohol do just that. It will promise a good time and deliver dulled senses. It promises happiness and delivers headaches of every kind. People say you can drink, just not get drunk. That is the tease of sin. Alcohol says come on try me. Then when you have drunk too much, Opps too late. Then people ask, “How did that happen? I never intended to get drunk!” It happened because they fell for the lie. The mocker of life.

Strong drink referred to is fermented grain which was stronger than wine. It tells of what it does. It causes an uncontrolled will. Feelings that range from extremely happy to extremely sad in just minutes. It causes emotions to be way out of ordinary and not in control. In addition, if alcohol is drunk regularly, over time it can become addicting. There is not one alcoholic who ever lived that started out by saying “I think I will drink so much that I will someday feel I have no choice.” They all began with, “It is only one drink, what can that hurt?” There is not one drug ever, which has done more harm than the drug of Alcohol. NONE!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The good news is this. God said He is greater than all things. The Bible says I can do ALL things through Christ. This includes turning over any habits with which Satan has ensnared us. Do not be fooled by the lies and lures of the world and Satan. Alcohol is a snare. Do not get caught in it.

Safely Walking Through Danger

JULY 19, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 18:36 Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

As a Pastor, I have had the joy of traveling to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with our youth group. Once while there we went to see a waterfall that was way back in the hills. You had to follow a neatly groomed trail for about a quarter of a mile. When we finally arrived, there was a waterfall that dropped well over 100 feet from a cliff above us, to a rocky bed below and then flowed calmly under a viewing platform which we stood on to see the beauty of God’s creation. Nothing seemed too dangerous, although to vary from the path could have been trouble.

Several of our youth and adults decided it would be neat to climb out on these rocks just below the falls and get a closer look at God’s handiwork. It was very evident from the foot beaten paths that others had been doing this for years. As they disappeared out of my sight, I began quietly to pray, Lord, protect them, and keep them safe. As I watched for a while, I saw them jumping from rock to rock. I again prayed, Lord, please do not let them get hurt, how will I ever explain this to our church? My fears were based on my perception of what I assumed was there, not my sight. Finally, my curiosity and concern got the best of me, and I went down to join them. When I got there, I was relieved to find large dry rocks to walk on. God provided in nature large areas to walk where our feet would not slip.

In our daily walk with God, we cannot always see what He has provided for us until we take a step of faith. However, He we can know with all certainty that He has said in Hebrews 13:5, “… I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today let’s look for the areas where God has enlarged our steps. When sin comes up to tempt us, but the Holy Spirit reminds us of scripture to protect from that sin, He has enlarged our steps. When trials come our way and a Christian friend comes to comfort and strengthen us, God has enlarged our steps. “Thank you, God, for helping me to walk through this world today, Amen.”

JULY 17 & 18, 2021 – You Have Been Invited

You Have Been Invited

JULY 17 & 18, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

For most of us we could not even imagine receiving an invitation to a dinner party being thrown by the President. When he was asked how many will be at the party, the President said, “that will depend on how many responds to the invitation.” It was his desire for everyone who received an invitation to come. However, he also knew some would find something else to be more important or, think the invitation was a joke and not respond to it. All were invited, but only those who responded were chosen to sit with the president that day.

Many people have heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. Untold millions upon millions have heard the good news, that by trusting on Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Saviour you can be saved. Many have been told Jesus died for them on the cross of Calvary, was buried in a cold damp tomb, and rose again the third day. Countless numbers of people know He went to heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father. Nevertheless, only a fraction of those who have heard accept the call to be saved. There are so many people, that do not receive salvation, and they do so by refusing Jesus’ invitation. Many say not today, later, and go off into eternity without Christ. Only a few are chosen to sit at the wedding banquet with Jesus. Not everyone invited by God will be among the chosen of God. Millions will wait and reject Christ until it is too late.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The invitation is there. The call has gone out. Are you listening today? Have you heard and responded to His plea to take Him as Saviour? If you have, rejoice in the fact you are among the chosen to sit with Christ. If not, it is all up to you. The invitation is there right now. I promise it is not a joke, and there is nothing more important in all of eternity. You have been invited.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.
