G.I.G.O.

JANUARY 20, 2022
Daily Reading – Genesis 38-39 / Matthew 12:38-50

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 12:36-37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Way too often, I have heard people make excuses for what they listen to by the way of music, or watch on TV and movies, or read in literature. They make claims such as, “it is just a movie, just a song, or it is just a book.” However, the truth is that whatever we allow in our hearts and minds will in some way show up in our lives and eventually come out of our mouth.

Computer geek programmers have a term they use, “GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT.” It means if you want good results out of your program you must put good programming in.

Your brain is the most high-powered computer ever designed. One day you will give an account for every word programmed into it.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What are you going to allow to be put
into your mind today?

JANUARY 19, 2022 – With A Tender Touch

With A Tender Touch

JANUARY 19, 2022
Daily Reading – Genesis 35-37 / Matthew 12:1-37

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 12:20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Have you ever heard the phrase, “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar?” Solomon said it this way in Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

This is the principal Jesus used in His ministry as well. One rough touch on a bruised reed will break it. Smoking flax was the wick of a lamp when it had no more oil, and the embers of a flame could be snuffed out if handled wrong. Jesus, with tender love and skill will uplift the broken and weak and kindle a flame with the oil of the Holy Spirit in lives even today.

We too must be gentle with the tender hearts, the bruised lives, and a flame barely burning that are brought our way.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What soft word or kind gesture might we share
to give people a new, real life?

JANYUARY 18, 2022 – Real Rest

Real Rest

JANUARY 18, 2022
Daily Reading – Genesis 33-34 / Matthew 11:20-30

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It was very possible that in today’s verse Christ was speaking to Jewish people who had been oppressed by the ceremonial and ritualistic laws of their religion. He was saying to them, if you will embrace me as your Saviour, you can then rest from these burdensome legalistic manmade laws. That had to sound good.

As we read it today, He is telling us the same thing. Many have searched for a truth in life and tried to find it in work, wealth, worldliness, and whatever might fill that emptiness inside.

In John 14:6, it says Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Once you find Jesus’ way is the truth of life, you can rest from the constant search.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will it be His way of rest, or yours of worry?

JANUARY 17, 2022 – Healing For The Soul

Healing For The Soul

JANUARY 17, 2022
Daily Reading – Genesis 31-32 / Matthew 11:1-19

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 11:4-5 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

We are genuinely concerned with our physical bodies these days. At this time of year, people make promises to themselves to eat right for better health, to exercise for longer life, and overall to try to take care of ourselves.

When Jesus was telling Johns disciples to share the miracles they saw, He included sight, illness, hearing, walking, and life as all being important to man. Then He added in the same list of importance, “the poor have the gospel preached to them.” You see, the Gospel brings health to the soul of man.

Today, more than everything else we need this healing of the soul. It is a miracle available today to all who will believe.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

Will you help work a miracle today in someone’s eternal life by sharing this healing Gospel?

JANUARY 15 & 16, 2022 – It’s A War Of Wills

It’s A War Of Wills

JANUARY 15 & 16, 2022
Daily Reading – Genesis 29-30 / Matthew 10
Daily Reading – No Reading on Sunday

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years as I have read today’s verse, I saw a positive and negative. If you try to hold on to life, you lose all the benefits of following Christ. If you give up your hold on life, you find joy in this life and the life to come. I still believe this to be true. However, today as I read this verse, I saw another way of reading it.

As I read, “He that findeth his life shall lose it:” I thought of a man who had found in his life that earthly holdings are futile. Fame, riches, pleasures all pass away. Therefore, he decides to give his life to God. So then when it says, “he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” could be talking about the same guy. Either way you read this it still says, to enjoy this life and eternity we must surrender our life to God’s will.

WHAT DO YOU SAY:

What hold on life might you surrender today?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.
