  Do You Understand?

OCTOBER 17, 2022
Daily Reading – Isa. 37-39 / Col. 1

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Colossians 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In Colossians 1:9 Paul says a mouthful. He prays the church might have the knowledge of God’s will. To know the will of God only comes by bathing oneself in His Word. Yet, knowledge by itself will still leave us empty. Knowledge must be applied to do any good.
Paul also prays that the church might have wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge in action. It is taking what you have come to know and using it. Still, this by itself is just a works-based religion. We need something more.
We also need Spiritual understanding. Understanding only the Holy Spirit can give us. An understanding of how to apply the knowledge of God’s will into our walk with Him in this world.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Oh friend, isn’t it good to have the Holy Spirit to guide us in God’s will?

OCTOBER 15 & 16, 2022 – Really? Anything?

  Really? Anything?

OCTOBER 15 & 16, 2022
Daily Reading – Isa. 32-36 / Phil. 4

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Philippians 4:12-13 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Too often we will hear the statement Paul made in Phil. 4:13 taken out of context. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” People ask really, anything? YES, really, anything. That is anything Christ would do or have us to do. God was not doing things for Paul, but rather with Paul. We must be willing to be used for Christ’s purposes first.
Paul says in verse 12, I get by with very little in life, and I handle wealth without letting it control me. He has had times of plenty to eat, and times when there is not so much. What he is saying is he can handle all of life’s situations through Christ who strengthens him. In verse 19, Paul says, be content, God will supply your need.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Do we desire God’s help to live daily for Him, or some superhuman strength to show off?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

  You Can’t Drive Like That

OCTOBER 14, 2022
Daily Reading – Isa. 29-31 / Phil. 3

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Philippians 3:13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Back when I was learning to drive, the instructor told me always check your mirrors. He added, only glance at them occasionally unless you are backing up. That makes good sense. You cannot drive forward and do a good job of it if you are staring at what is behind you.
Our Christian life is much like driving a car. Paul said we are to forget those things behind. This means not to dwell on them or move toward them. Occasionally we need to recall what we left behind, so we do not make the same mistakes twice. However, our life is to be in forward motion, not backward. You cannot move forward for the Lord living in the past.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Are you looking out the windshield of life toward your destination with Jesus, or in the mirrors at past mistakes?

OCTOBER 13, 2022 – Let The Light Out

  Let The Light Out

OCTOBER 13, 2022
Daily Reading – Isa. 26-28 / Phil. 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

The lighthouse keeper, back when the light was a large oil lamp, was an important work that many lives depended upon. Every morning he would turn down the wick to extinguish the flame and refill the oil. He then used a special grit free cloth to clean the Fresnel lens, and its many prisms, of soot that built up during the night. He was to make sure the lighthouse was always ready to shine a light of rescue in the darkness. The lighthouse was always manned, never left vacant.
Christians need to be like that keeper. We must daily attend to a clean life by asking God to forgive us and refilling the oil by reading His Word. Always ready to be used by him to shine a light into a dark world.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Are you ready to let His light shine through you today?

OCTOBER 12, 2022 – Confidence Equals Peace

  Confidence Equals Peace

OCTOBER 12, 2022
Daily Reading – Isa. 23-25 / Phil. 1

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

“I am confident.” My pastor for many years, Brother Grooms, used this phrase often while preaching. The more I think on it, the more I realize, confidence is really just another way of saying, “I have peace.”
Paul said He was confident that God begins a work in us when we accept Jesus as Saviour. How peaceful it is to know, God is present, and working in our lives. Not only has he begun a work, but He will also perform it, or continue to act upon that work. Meaning He will never grow tired of us, nor ever quit performing this work in us all the days of our lives on earth.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Don’t you enjoy a sense of peace in the confidence that God is still with you and working on your life today?
