Singing A New Song

MARCH 29, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalms 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

You get in your car, start the engine, back out of the drive, and head off for the day. Things are a little quiet, so you turn on the radio and a song begins to play. A song you have heard before with a catchy tune. After just a second or so, you find yourself singing like the lead singer in the band. Just you, the radio, and God, (and maybe the people around you in the other cars who think you are talking to yourself.) Soon you find yourself singing and getting lost in the song. As you step out of the car, you hear this little tune playing over and over again in your mind. Later that day you find yourself again humming or maybe even softly singing the same song.

What has happened to you? It seems that now you cannot get this tune out of your mind. It’s like a constant recording playing again and again. You almost wish someone would sing something else so you could replace the song in your mind with a new one.

The Psalmist in today’s verse is remembering the new song that was placed in his heart when he trusted in the Lord. It plays constantly for him in his heart. Christian Brother and Sister, it should be playing in our hearts as well. It is the song of salvation, which brings peace to our souls as we remember it daily. Knowing that you have decided to follow Jesus and there is no turning back, nor any desire to do so. There is a new song in your heart.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Back in Psalm 40:3 it says, “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” Do you have this new song in your heart? I wonder if the song could be, I have decided to follow Jesus… I have decided to follow Jesus… I have decided to follow Jesus… No Turning Back… No Turning Back…
(I hope this song gets stuck in your head for today.)

Did We Learn From History?

MARCH 27 & 28, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Deuteronomy 6:13-14 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In the spring as I drive to church on Sunday, I see people cleaning their yard, washing their car, and enjoying the warmer weather. God has given us such a pretty season. He brings the sun out to shine upon us again. It is not too warm and not too cold. Birds are singing and it is just an incredibly beautiful time of year. However, as I drive to church to meet fellow church members, I must wonder, what god do some people who miss church worship, if any? Do they realize this is a day set aside to fellowship and sing praise to the Lord? Has our nation, which claimed at one time to be a Christian nation, forgotten God? Could it be that we are worshiping the god of self and choosing what I want as more important than what God may want?

How easy is it to do? It is extremely easy! It only takes a lack of commitment for a little while for Satan to tell you, “see, it did not hurt last week, it will not hurt this week either.” He says, “Look around, everyone else is doing it, God hasn’t condemned them… just stay home.” Or even, “you already went once this week, why would you want to go again, relax, this is the day God intended for rest, right?”

However, it did hurt the first week. You missed what God prepared for you. You missed doing what God gifted you for in church to bring you and Him joy. Your neighbors missed seeing a testimony untarnished as you go to worship the God you say you love so much, but now they see you as being JUST LIKE THEM. Satan twisted the scripture to say this is a day of rest and you bought the lie. God said rest from all labors so you can use the day to worship and praise Him. He gave you six days to make a living, the seventh is to worship Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When we read about the Israelites, it is easy to ask, “Why would they forsake a God who proved Himself so many times and gave them blessing beyond measure?” “Why?” If they read our life story… would they be asking, “Why did these people, after seeing what happened with us, not learn from our mistakes?”

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Minding My Own Business

MARCH 26, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 26:7 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Keep to yourself and mind your own business.” I can remember my dad telling me as a young boy these same words of wisdom many times. I guess he had to keep telling me this because I did not seem to listen to well the first time. Most often, he would be telling me this right after I had gotten myself into yet another situation in which I really had no business being involved.

Meddling in others affairs can often come back to bite you. It just seems all too often, when you try to help two people, before long they are both friends again, but they have turned on you! So why does this happen? It could be simply that they never asked for any help to begin with. It can come from meddling in affairs where our nose does not belong.

I always wondered how my dad got to be so smart. Maybe he remembered this verse from Proverbs. Watch out where you stick your nose, you might get it bit off!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The Bible tells us as Christians to help one another and if possible, to keep a brother or sister from sin and falling. However, it also says to do so in truth and in love. Before you get involved, be sure you get God involved. It just might be with a little patience and prayer God will handle the situation all on His own. If He really needs your help, He will most often let you know.

Are We There Yet?

MARCH 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 74:10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In a world of constant change, some things never change. Most of us can picture our family vacations with parents and children. It begins by traveling down the road with the family, heading for a place you have all been thinking about and planning toward for the last few months. The family has talked about what you will do when you get there and the things you will see together in this wonderful place. Then about 20 minutes into the trip you here those famous words, “How much longer before we get there?” Then, for the remainder of the trip, “Are we there yet?” “Are we there yet?” “Are we there yet?”

One thing this does do, (besides drive you crazy) is to make you so glad when you can finally say; “YES…WE ARE HERE!” What a blessed relief it is to know you will not have to hear, “Are we there yet” again. (That is, not until it is time to go back home.)

As we wait for the return of God’s Son Jesus to take us home, to the place we have talked about, to the place where we will see some wonderful things together, we must sound like those children on the trip, “How much longer God?” “Is it time yet?” Oh, what a blessing it will be for us when God turns to Jesus and says, “Go get them Son, it is time now.” Then He may add, “Yes children, you are here now.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Oh, the anticipation is swelling in our hearts for that day. With heightened expectation, we wonder how soon it will be approaching. It just cannot be too long until the skies will part, and we shall see Him just as He left this earth, returning for us in the clouds. In our prayers today we should all say, “Thank you Father, for this promise in your word.” AMEN.

Can You Hear It?

MARCH 24, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Deuteronomy 1:43 So I spake unto you; and ye would not hear, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD, and went presumptuously up into the hill.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever been in a crowded room where everyone seemed to be talking at the same time? Every conversation was good, and they all seem to be important to the people who are involved in them. Then someone steps up to the microphone and begins to speak. You try to listen, you hear something, but cannot make out exactly what, because the noise of the crowd is drowning out the speaker. Finally, in exhaustion, you give up and go back to the conversation you were in before. At least you could hear what was being said in that one.

In today’s passage we find the children of Israel so busy talking with each other about what they were doing in their life, they never took the time to listen to God. Were they concerned about their life? Sure they were. Did they trying to figure out what to do next? Yes. However, with all their talking about what to do, did they drown out God, the one who could really make a difference? Yes, they did.

When we stop to think, we are often just like God’s Children of Israel. We are daily busy trying to fix the world and discussing how to make things better. We get so tied up in our daily lives that we forget to listen to the one who gave us life to begin with. If we would stop for just a few minutes each day and listen, really listen to the Lord, I am sure He has something very important to say. Something we really need to hear.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Before we go flying through another day, STOP, take a moment to pause and open God’s Word. A great way to begin would be to read Psalm 119:18 and repeat those words to the Lord. “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” Listen… Listen. Do you hear it? There is a still small voice speaking just to you.
