It’s Just A Comma

MAY 14, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

The bible says that not one jot or tittle written within it will ever go undone. This means they must be important. So, what is a jot and tittle? A jot is the tenth and the smallest letter written in Hebrew. It is written above the line and would look similar to an apostrophe in the English. A tittle is an even smaller defining mark or stroke on a letter in Hebrew. To change or omit either, completely changes the meaning of the words written.

Today, I want to point out a mark used in the English language. It is neither a jot nor a tittle, but a comma which some people may miss. It is in the first verse of Romans 12 between holy and acceptable. Look at the verse again. Do you see it now? Without the comma some may read this as if it were to say, “wholly acceptable.” This would mean completely acceptable. We do need to be completely acceptable. However, reading it this way does not define how to become acceptable. With the comma in the proper place, it says that first we must be Holy. This means we are to be set apart for God’s use. We must first be willing to be set apart from the worldly desires and lusts. Also, set apart unto God. To be used of Him as He desires. If we will give our life over to God, then we will be acceptable or pleasing unto Him. The next few words in this phrase tell us why. This is because it is the reasonable thing to do. We must realize, this is the only reasonable thing to do for our God who sent His Son to die for us and has blessed us with all spiritual blessing

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Are you still not sure how to be holy, and acceptable? That is why verse two is there. God does not want us to wonder how to figure this out. Just read the second verse and it will all be clear. It is by a renewed mind transformed by God’s Holy Word.

What Makes You Rich?

MAY 13, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 13:7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Oh, to be RICH! To have all the money you would ever want. If we are honest, this seems like the dream of most people today. Admit it, we all want to be financially secure. To be able to do whatever we want, and to go wherever we would like to go. However, there is a difference in financial security, and the overwhelming desire to be rich. We often find people with lots of money, are not really happy. Let them get deathly ill, they would trade everything for a few more days of life.

Verse 7 could be read a couple of different ways. “There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing.” You might see this as a person who has attained all the wealth they might want, but in the process, they have forgotten family, friends, and God. Now, even with all this wealth, they are empty inside. Then again, you may read this as someone who has very little financially, however they have made themselves rich with a fine family, a love for God, and great Christian friends, and yet the world sees them as having nothing.

Verse 7 also says, “There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.” Some people who have money, live simple lives. Not flaunting a God given abundance financially but using it as God would intend them to. No one around them knows of their wealth. Then there are also people who choose to live amazingly simple lives, they are never desiring much in this world, and yet they are rich in family, and have a rich inheritance with God.

The question is, “What makes you RICH?” If it is money, then you are actually very poor. What really matters in life are relationships. Relationships with family, and friends are important, however the most important relationship is the one you have with God. If you have that, you are wealthy indeed!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

This would be a great day to call and renew a relationship. It would also be a great time to call on God and keep that relationship on track. If you never had a relationship with God, He is waiting to start one. Then you can say, “I am RICH.”

You Are Not Going To Believe This

MAY 12, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 109:2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Don’t you just hate it when people lie? They just cannot seem to tell truth. No matter how hard they try, they always seem to stretch the truth to a point where hardly anyone could possibly believe them. Then when they do tell the truth, no one does believe them.

What seems even worse is when they begin to lie about you. They might tell only half-truths or exaggerate the truth. It seems almost unbelievable that they would do such a thing. Suddenly, you find yourself wanting to get even, to hurt them back. Well, I am going to tell you how to do just that. Prepare to get even with these people.

First, live a separated life. What is a separated life? It is a life in which, it is hard to find fault. One separated from the world and their sinful ways. Separated to the Lord and His heavenly ways. Then no one who truly knows you would ever believe the lies someone else would tell and it is going to look bad on them.

Second, take it to the Lord. Do not try to get even, get back, or get over on someone. Let God handle it. He knows both you and them far better than you do.

Finally, pray for them and invite them to church. If you genuinely want a liar to quit lying, they will need to have a change of heart, not just a change of mind. The best way to get rid of an enemy is to make them your friend.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Could you imagine if someone were to say right up front when they first begin to tell stories on you something like, “You know so and so, that Christian, well you are not going to believe this but…” Did you hear it? Are you laughing? First, they have labeled you as a Christian, and then told the other person what was going to happen. “You’re not going to believe this…” and because of your life in Christ, well, they won’t.

What You Do, I Will Do

MAY 11, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

1 Samuel 14:7 And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Living in Michigan in the winter, we often get a lot of snow. Growing up, the garage my dad kept his car in was not attached to our house. On Sunday morning when it was time to go to church my dad would go out, open the garage and back the car out. He would then leave it running to warm up while he came back in the house for a few minutes. Then he would say something like, “Ok let’s get going,” and we would all head out to the car. As I stepped out the back door, I would try to put my little feet in the footprints where my dad’s feet had been. I knew if I could get my foot into his footprint, I would not get snow in my shoes which always left my feet cold the rest of the morning. I did not even have to look where I was going because I knew if I followed his tracks they would lead to where he wanted me to be. Occasionally I would trip and step out of his big steps, but I would get up and keep trying until I got to the car.

The armourbearer in our verse today knew that to follow the heart and the footsteps of his leader would take him where he needed to be. In life we must know whom we are following. We must also know we are all leading someone who is hot on our trail.

Oh, that we might have more men and women today, who would live their lives as to be leading people to God. We are all leaders of someone, while at the same time we are all followers of someone. Where are you leading others? You can know this by deciding whom it is you are following.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Imagine for a moment that you hear a child’s voice behind you that said, “Do whatever you heart desires: I am going to do that too.” Might it change what you do today? You are leading someone, even today.

Someone Has A Crush On You

MAY 10, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Guess what I have heard about you? You are wonderful. You are intelligent; witty, and charming. You have a great personality and are also found to be very attractive. They said they like you and you are a great person to have as a friend. Do you want to know who said all these things about you? Sure you do. Whoever they are, they seem to be a very smart person. In fact, as people go, they might be able to be a very good friend.

However, what if someone said this instead? You are a fool. You are stupid, boring, and an absolute drag to be around. You have a horrible personality, and to top it all off I find you to be kind of ugly. Being around you is like rubbing sandpaper across my forehead until it bleeds. In fact, I would rather stick a fork in my eye than spend one more minute around you. OK, do you want to know who said that? Sure you do. However, the reason is different. You probably want to know, “What in the world could I have possibly done to them to make them hate me so much?”

Yet, prior to our salvation, this is sort of the attitude we displayed toward God. We did not want to be around Him or His people. His ideas and ways seemed ridiculous, outdated, and we did not want to listen, read, or much less obey anything he had to say out of His Word. It may have sounded stupid, boring, and even foolish at times. However, while we were acting this way toward God, The Bible says “…God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God sent His only Son to die for us. Why? It is because He loved us even when we were acting unlovable toward Him. Now my friend, this is real love.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I wonder if God ever thought to Himself, “What in the world could I have possibly done to them to make them hate me so much?” God loved us even when we were acting unlovable toward Him. In fact, the someone who thought all those nice things about you in the first paragraph, that would be God. He really is a great friend indeed.
