Are You Living In Fear?

June 7 & 8, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind
.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

The “Fear of the Lord” is such a misunderstood phrase. In its simplest form, to fear the Lord means to reverence or worship God. However, some people literally live in fear of God. I mean a literal, “I am afraid of Him” type of fear. They go day to day believing God is up there in heaven just waiting and watching and as soon as they make a mistake… Whamo… they are in for it. I picture them sort of like the whack-a-mole game you see when you go to the county fair. You get a large mallet and are given just so much time to whack as many of these plastic moles in the head as they pop their heads out of one hole after another. Some people live believing if they make one mistake in life God is waiting up there in heaven with this Huge Holy Mallet ready to whack them in the head and possibly take away their salvation.

What a terrible way to have to live. To live daily and be afraid of someone who loves you so much. God never intended for us to live in a spirit of fear. We are to live in the power of God, with love, and a sound mind. Let this mind be in you…The Mind of Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Do not live with a frightened fear of God. Live in reverence of who He is. Not afraid… but in Awe. In addition, remember this; this powerful awesome God…loves you personally, as a good father loves His children.

Do you find yourself afraid of God, or in love with God?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 6:20
My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Every child in the world has heard the words, “Listen to your mother or father” at one time or another. We usually heard this when we most likely did not want to. Why? Because it seemed they were trying to keep us from having fun. Do not do this, Do not do that, clean this, put that away, come here, or go there. It seemed like a never-ending list of to-do’s and don’ts. Why do parents have to do that? Well, now that I am a parent, I know of three reasons for sure.

They most likely had, “been there – done that.” I know it’s hard to imagine that these old people may understand where you are in life. However, trust me (an older person now) they do. Possibly, they were there themselves. Maybe they knew someone else who had been there. They may have had the good fortune to have parents who warned them about this. Any way we look at it, they are trying to lovingly protect us. This brings us to point number two.

They do not want you to suffer through their old mistakes. Why is it so important to them when it seems so minor to you? Because they know how it will end. How do they know? Well, let’s just say they were not always grown-ups, okay? Finally,

They only want what is best for you. I know it sounds cliché, but it is true. Parents always want to see their children succeed. ALWAYS.

So next time Mom and Dad start in with “do this” or “do that,” see if you can hear at the end of the phrase, “because I Love you.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Parents are a wonderful gift from God. Godly parents are the best. If you have unsaved parents, pray God will use you as a witness. If your parents are saved, thank God for them. Also, be sure to tell them occasionally you love them too.

Are you using your life experiences to lead others by a Godly example?

Preserved For A Later Date
June 5, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 121:7-8
The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

People do not do as much canning as they did when I was younger. I remember hot summers without air-conditioning, my mother would work in our small kitchen boiling tomatoes for days. It was already hot, and now she was boiling tomatoes and the steam from her cooking made it even worse. When the tomatoes had cooked just so long, she would skin them, place them in jars, and then screw a special canning lid on the jars. Then she would place the jars back in this cooker and keep cooking them. This sealed the Mason jars, and they were ready for storage. Whatever she canned this way, tomatoes, green beans, or peaches were preserved for a later date. They would stay good until someone broke the seal on the jar. In addition, the jars were burglar-proof. If you tried to open them before Mom said you could, the lid would make a loud POP noise, and you would be caught. Yet, as long as they were held in the jar with the seal unbroken, they stayed good.

Our verses today say God also preserves us. Placing us in His Son Jesus, He preserves us from evil. Satan cannot have us any longer. The old devil can pick at us and torment us, but we are safe inside the preserving care of Jesus. This is not just an earthly promise, but also the verses say He preserves our very soul. For how long will that be good? Just exactly what the text says, and even for evermore.” It is not up to my powers or abilities to preserve my soul. It is all about the preserving power of God. Whom may I ask you is stronger or more powerful than God? Are you? Am I? Is Satan? No, No one is. How could I possibly lose such a preserved salvation?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The saving grace of Jesus is eternal. The protecting power of God is everlasting. I have been preserved by God for His Son Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. Oh how great is our salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

What does “For Evermore” in today’s verse mean to you?

Make A Little Music

June 4, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

1 Chronicles 6:31-32
And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest. And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Music plays an important role in the Bible. David, who was himself a musician and composer of many of the Psalms, also played a part in bringing music into the formal worship of God. In today’s passage, he has assembled a choir to sing.

Music continues throughout the Bible to play a big part in worship. The disciples after the Lord’s Supper closed with a Hymn (Mark 14:26). Paul and Silas were found praying and singing praises to our God while in Jail (Acts 16:25). In addition, when the roll is called up yonder, we will hear glorious singing on the shores of heaven (Rev. 15:2-4).

Music continues today to help us share our deepest emotions with our heavenly Father. We are told today by God’s Word, as was the church in Colossians 3:16, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Music is a wonderful way for all of us to express our beliefs and the joy of our salvation. It is a tool given by God, with which we can memorize the Word of God and teach it to our children as well as adults. So, find your voice and sing the praises of your King. You do not need to be a professional musician for God to enjoy the song in your heart and on your lips. Make a little music.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

We need to remember music is only one way to worship God. However, we also need to remember that music IS ONE WAY to worship. Whatever and however we share in music, it should be in worshipful reverence to our God who gave us this wonderful gift.

How big of a part is music in your worship of God?

Do You Still Believe It?

June 3, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Titus 2:13-14
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Several times throughout the year we would have guest speakers visit our church. Missionaries, Evangelists, or other Pastors came, and God used them to encourage us in our walk with the Lord. Often when these Speakers come from out of town, we will put them up in a local motel.

One year, we hosted revival meetings at our church. We spent a lot of time and energy promoting this particular week and the well-known evangelist. The week had finally come, and I was waiting for him to arrive. The problem was that I thought he had said he would be here at one time, and he thought he said another. Needless to say, I was getting anxious about his arrival. I was sure he was going to be here soon. I checked the motel, I checked the room he was to stay in, and I checked my cell phone, answering machine, and caller ID. I tried reaching him, but his cell phone was not on. Therefore, I waited and waited and waited for what seemed to be an eternity. However, in all the time in which I waited, I never once ever thought of giving up on him arriving. Never once did I quit praying for his safe arrival and the revival for the next week. Why? Well, it was because I believed he was coming. He said he would. Sure enough, he did arrive safe, and the revival week was wonderful.

Christ has been a long time coming. I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, but I have never quit believing that one day Jesus will return. Why? Well, it is because I believe He is coming as He said He would.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I continue to look for Jesus as if he could arrive today. He could you know? In addition, I will never quit praying for that day or for those who are still unsaved. Jesus said He was coming and friend, that is good enough for me.
