  A Thought-out Reunion

January 23, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 44-45 / Matthew 14

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 45:7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

The birthday cake is ordered, check. The balloons and helium are ordered, check. All the decorations have been purchased, check. The invitations have been sent, check. Does that remind you of the mental maneuvers you went through the last time that you were in charge of putting together a simple birthday party. You had a whole year to plan and prepare, yet the final details seem overwhelming at times. Add to that it is a surprise party so you cannot let the guest of honor find out what you are doing. AHHHH!!!

Now imagine planning a surprise reunion for hundreds of people. There is an entire family of people God is preparing to reunite. A well-thought-out reunion indeed. How long did God plan this? Well according to Genesis 37:2 Joseph was seventeen when he was sold into slavery. Genesis 41:46 says He was thirty when he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and made second in command. Egypt enjoyed seven years of plenty, and Genesis 45:6 says they had been in famine for two years. This puts Joseph at thirty-nine years old. So, if our math is correct, does that mean God planned this reunion for twenty two years? Actually, it was a lot longer than that. God has every detail of all eternity well planned out. Before Joseph was born, this reunion was in the working. Joseph said, God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.”

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

An even greater reunion was thought-out and planned for those who have accepted Christ as Saviour. Jesus was sent before to preserve you and save your life by a great deliverance.

   The Treasures Of God

 January 21 & 22, 2023
 January 21 – Daily Reading – Genesis 42 – 43 / Matthew 13:36-58
 January 22 – NO READING

 GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 43:23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

People have been searching for lost or hidden treasures for years. What a joy after hunting and searching to find the reward at the end of it all. It almost makes you forget all the time and toil that went into finding the treasures you have sought. But what if the treasure searched for you?

Joseph’s brothers were scared when they found that the money, they had brought to buy food from Egypt was back in the top of their sack along with the food. This did not seem like a treasure, it felt like a trap. In Genesis 43:18 it says, “And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.” They were sure it was a trap. However, in today’s verse Joseph’s Steward tells them; “…fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks:…” In other words, because of your God, the treasure found you.

If we would stop for a moment to look back at our life, we will see that along the way, God has sprinkled treasures into each of our lives. Most often treasures we were not even searching for. Blessings he spread along our way. Placing a treasure to find on top of His provisions for us.

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

James 1:17 says every good gift is from above. If we realize that, our heart begins to treasure all that is above. Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. If God becomes the treasure we seek, our heart is there with Him..

Could your heart be the treasure God has been seeking?

January 20, 2023 – The Truth From God

The Truth From God

January 20, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 40 – 41 / Matthew 13:1-35

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 41:38-39 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

In 1992 there was a movie called, “A Few Good Men” in which actor Jack Nicholson shouted his famous line, “YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.” Since then this phrase has been echoed by many others in multiple situations. The truth is many people do not handle the truth well.

Pharaoh recognized in Joseph a man who was filled with the Spirit of God. Even an unsaved Egyptian Ruler realized that Joseph’s God was not only powerful, but that what He said was true. God’s truth in Joseph made him appear discreet and wise in the eyes of this Pharaoh. By promoting Joseph, Pharaoh was unwittingly also saying that Joseph’s God tells the truth. Time would prove that the Pharaoh had made a good choice in believing Joseph and his God.

In every born-again believer is the same Spirit of God that was in Joseph. The same unchanging God has given to us His unchanging truth. We, like Joseph have an opportunity to be discreet and wise as we handle God’s Words of truth. 2 Corinthians 4:1-2 says, “Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Some people “CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH,” and they walk away from God.
Some who have the truth, “WON’T HANDLE THE TRUTH.” They never tell a soul.
While others will “MISHANDLE THE TRUTH,” using it in deceitful ways.

What will you do with God’s Truth in you?

January 19, 2023 – The Testing Of God

The Testing Of God

January 19, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 38 – 39 / Matthew 12:38-50

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 39:9 There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

We are constantly asked to do more and more. To put just one more little thing on our schedule. Do one more favor for a friend. It would seem like a blessing if someone would ask us to do just one thing less one time. Yet the testing of God is often just that. God may be asking you; will you NOT DO SOMETHING for me?

At creation, God made a beautiful garden and placed man in it. He told them that they could have and do anything. There was just one thing He asked them NOT TO DO. Do not eat from just one tree. God’s test of their love for Him was, would they freely choose to obey His command. Everything on earth was theirs for the taking. Yet it was the one thing they were asked NOT TO DO that Satan used to tempt them.

Joseph was placed in Potiphar’s house, and he entrusted everything he had to Joseph because he could see that God was blessing everything Joseph did. In Genesis 39:6 it says “…he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat…” It is a similar test for Joseph as in the Garden of Eden. However, Joseph passed the test. Joseph realized that if he were to take of what was not given him, in this case Potiphar’s wife, it was not only a sin against Potiphar, but even more so, it was a sin against God. It was not what he did that mattered any more than what he chose NOT TO DO.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

God has always wanted us to freely choose to love Him. His test of that love has always been the same. John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

What might God be asking you NOT TO DO?

January 18, 2023 – The Terror Of God

The Terror Of God

January 18, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 35 – 37 / Matthew 12:1-37

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 35:5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

I am not a Hebrew Scholar. I normally do not refer to original languages to make an argument for what scripture says. I am not opposed to those who do, but I have found the Bible in our English language usually defines itself very well. That being said, the original word for “terror” in Genesis 35:5 is only found once in this form in all of scripture. It means a terrified fear of God.

Jacob had said in Chapter 34, that he was afraid the people of the land would desire to kill him for what his son’s had done to Shechem and his city. They very well may have, except Jacob’s family has now given themselves exclusively to the one true God. Genesis 35:4 says they tossed out all their strange Gods. Now the fear Jacob once had, was upon them who might otherwise have done harm to him. It was their fear of Jacobs God that kept them from touching this caravan as they traveled through the land. Psalms 105 tells of this occasion. Psalm 105:14 & 15 “He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes; Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.“

God is still watching over His own. It says in Hebrews 13:5-6 “…for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” There is no terror if you are right with God.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

The terror of God in today’s text was a fear of God. For the saints however, we do not need to be terrified of God, but we do need to have a holy fear towards God. This fear is a respect for, and a reverence of who God is in us.

What type of fear do you have with God?
