They Want To Be Like You
February 9, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 3:30-32
Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Guess what, Christian? People want to be like you! For some of you, that’s hard to understand. Why would someone want to be like me? I’m not rich, famous, or powerful. Why on earth would people want to be like me? The reason is that the ultimate goal for most people is not money, fame, or power. What they desire in life is happiness and security.

Some believe that money will bring them happiness and security, but it never truly does. It may buy worldly pleasures, but those things always leave you feeling empty in the end. A friend gained through money is not a genuine friend; they’re merely a mooch.

Others think that if they were famous, everyone would love them. Again, this is not true. The price of fame often involves being ruthless enough to step on many people on the way up. Only those who don’t know you well seem to adore you. Who wants friends you can’t get truly close to? Are they even real friends?

Some individuals believe that if they had power, they could almost command their way to happiness. The reality is that power comes with overwhelming responsibilities. You’re never your own boss; others will constantly demand your time for various reasons.

So why do people want to be like you, Christian? It’s because the secret of God is with you. You are the ones made righteous in His Son, Jesus Christ. You have true peace in life. You’re genuinely content with who you are in Christ and are willing to share your joy with anyone. A crooked or froward person is an abomination to God, meaning their way of life makes Him sick. However, in you, Christian lies the secret of righteousness—Jesus Christ.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

As you go through your day, remember that people are watching you. They want to see who Christ truly is in your life. They desire a real friend, genuine happiness, and joy. If they witness these qualities in you, they might become interested in knowing your Savior. BE HAPPY!

What will people see in you today?

It Is Written… Isn’t It?
February 8, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 3:27-29
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“Cleanliness is next to godliness.” “God works in mysterious ways.” “God helps those who help themselves.” These three phrases can be found in Hezekiah 1:12. Now before you go looking them up, it’s a joke. There is no Hezekiah 1:12. It sounded like there could have been, right? So, what do these phrases have in common with Hezekiah 1:12? Like the reference, they’re not in the Bible. We frequently use these phrases and sometimes believe they are from scripture when, in fact, they are not. In reality, all three of them, in some way, contradict scripture.

Nothing in the Bible suggests that God prioritizes hygiene over everything else. What interests God is a clean heart. The Bible conveys that outward appearance is only what man sees. (However, please do maintain good hygiene. If not for God, at least for your neighbors. It’s challenging to be a witness when people prefer to keep their distance from you.

•  God does not always work in mysterious ways. It is true that God’s ways are above human understanding and can be challenging to grasp at times. However, God has clearly laid out His plans for this earth and your eternal life in His Word.

•  Furthermore, God does not always help those who help themselves. This notion contradicts what God has conveyed about trusting in Him. Our verses today demonstrate that God also aids those who assist others. God provides for all our needs. If you are placing your trust in yourself, your faith is in the wrong place.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

“…If any would not work, neither should he eat.” That is in the Bible, (2 Thess. 3:10.) The phrase God helps those who help themselves isn’t. Actually, it should say, God helps those who help others and trust in Him. Let’s live out the Word today.

Isn’t it time we get back in the book
to see and hear what God really says?

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep…
February 7, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 3:24-26
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Do you recall the little prayer you heard as a child? “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take, Amen.” What a comforting prayer for a child.

However, have you ever considered using this prayer for an adult? When an unsaved person is alone, when there are no friends around making noise, and all the activities have come to an end, what crosses their mind? I remember when I lived that way. Frequently, I would ponder, “What if I were to die tonight in my sleep? What if the house caught on fire, and I didn’t make it out? What if someone broke in and harmed me? The people I associated with were not always the nicest individuals. To be honest, neither was I. What if one of them got intoxicated or high and sought revenge for something I said or did? Where would I go after death?” This simple little prayer can haunt an unsaved person.

This prayer, while sweet, is not a salvation prayer. It doesn’t request forgiveness for sins, nor does it express repentance for sin. It’s a suitable prayer for children before they reach the age of accountability. However, as adults, our first step is to ask God to save us. We need to acknowledge that we are sinners and ask God for forgiveness. Inviting Him to come into our hearts and dwell within us. Then, when we lie down, we can sleep in sweet, restful confidence, knowing that God is watching over us. Regardless of what may happen during the night, when we die, we will be with Him.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Saved adults might consider modifying the prayer slightly to say, “Now I lay me down to sleep, I know the Lord my soul doth keep. If I should die before I wake, I trust the Lord my soul will take. AMEN!”

Are you trusting in Him today,
or afraid to meet Him?

Come On, Just A Few More Steps
February 6, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 3:21-23
My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

When we are toddlers, our mothers or fathers hold our hands and assist us in taking our first steps. Their strong and loving arms support each of our early strides. However, shortly after we could stand on our own, our parents began encouraging us to walk independently.

Have you ever observed a scene where one parent holds a baby, while the other stands in front with their arms outstretched toward the child and says, “Come on, you can do it, come on,” encouraging the toddler to let go and take their first steps? What is the baby doing while walking toward the parent? Are they watching their feet? No. Do they look around at the sights along the way during this exciting journey? No. Do we see them stop to pick up things along the way? Once again, the answer is no. The baby is intensely focused, with their eyes fixed on the outstretched hands that are sure to catch them. They trust that they will reach their destination if they keep moving toward the loving voice and the safety of their parents’ grasp. If they look away, they often stumble. Nevertheless, someone helps them back up and sends them on their way again toward their destination. When they finally arrive, they are greeted with cheers, hugs, and love.

God has set us free to walk through this world. We are certain to stumble if we take our eyes off God. Nevertheless, He is always there to lift us up once more. Our ultimate destination is the loving embrace of Jesus, as He welcomes home God’s children.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

As you read your Bible, listen closely, and you can almost hear Jesus saying, “Come on, you can do it, come on, just a few more steps.” We must never lose sight of the love and safety that lie ahead. How can we reach our destination safely? Listen to His instructions given in His Word. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look to Him, trust Him, and head toward those nail-scarred, loving hands.

Are we focused on the eternal goal
God has set before us?
