KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 31:1
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

What have you promised your body lately?

Did you promise yourself that if you behave really well this week, do not eat too much, and exercise a little, that this weekend you could have a double chocolate fudge brownie with hot fudge on top, ground pecans with whipped cream, and a cherry on top? Did you promise your arms and legs a little R&R after working extra hard? Whether we think about it or not, we do make promises to ourselves. Some promises are better than others.

However, what promises have you made to your eyes? What have you promised them besides maybe a little rest? Have you promised your eyes you would not look at anything sinful on purpose? Do you dare make yourself that promise? Could it be you are afraid, perhaps this may cut into your TV programs? Would such a promise maybe change the magazines you read? Might it stop you from going somewhere you wanted to go? Can you make a covenant with your eyes, not to look at sin as satisfying, not to view filth as fine, and not to see worldliness as wisdom? Can you make this covenant… this promise… this contract… with your eyes?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If you are a Christian, you somewhat already made this covenant when you gave yourself to God. See, God detests looking at sin. It is sickening to Him when He sees it. Sin cost Him His only Son. Sin made Him watch as His Son Jesus was beaten, spit on, slapped, and crucified. God hates sin. When you look at sinful things in this world as a believer with the Holy Spirit in you, you take God with you.

What did you make God watch through your eyes yesterday?
What will you cause Him to look upon today?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself what MY THOUGHTS are concerning this Passage and today’s Devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 1:32-33
For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever heard the saying “If you give a man enough rope, he will hang himself?” What does that mean? I believe it might have something to do with today’s verses. Why would people turn from the wisdom of the Word of God? Especially people who claim to believe there is one true God. I could somewhat understand a person who believes there might be another god or no god, not paying any attention to the warnings in God’s Word. However, why would any person who says they believe there is a Jesus, God, and Holy Spirit turn from the wisdom of God’s Word? The problem may be that they believe “in” and not “on” God. It might just be that they have been given enough rope to hang themselves.

Let me explain. It usually begins with just a little success, a little prosperity, and a little of what the world calls happiness. As the days go by and quickly turn into weeks, months, and years, people begin to feel safe in their success and fall into the trap of believing there is no way this will change. That is when it happens. They have begun to believe in themselves more than they believe in God. They might subconsciously think they do not need a God. Some begin to wonder if there is a God after all. They begin to subconsciously think, “Look how long I have gotten away with not obeying what the Bible says. I have had no problems, no worries, and no God helping me. I earned it all myself.” So, there you have it. As the verse above says, “the prosperity of fools” destroys them. In the end, they hang themselves with their own stuff. THINGS took them from God. THINGS kept them from God. THINGS send them to a place called Hell. Sadly, this is a place where they will have no more THINGS.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you go through this day, look at the things you have acquired. As you see each one, take a moment to thank God who gave these things to you. Thank Him for it and ask Him how you might use it to glorify Him. Colossians 1:16 says that all THINGS were created by Him and for Him. If all THINGS are created for Him, you should thank Him for allowing you to play with His THINGS.

So, do you own things, or do things Own You?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

What Keeps You Going?
October 31, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 104:25-30
So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein. These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season. That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

What is it that keeps you going every day? Is it air? Well, air plays a big part in it. How about blood? Well, without blood, you cannot survive. Maybe you would say it is water. A person cannot go very long without water. All the answers are true; however, I see one you may have missed. What keeps you living is death. Yup, you read that right, death.

So, by now, you may wonder how it is that death keeps me living. Well, for you to eat anything, some living thing must die. No matter if it is poultry, beef, tomatoes, or even lettuce, for it to be consumed, it must die. Who thought up such a system? The answer is God, the giver of all life. He not only controls what we eat but also supplies food for all the animals on this entire globe. Huge fish eat smaller fish. Some larger animals will eat vegetation. Carnivores eat other animals. God designed it all. If it were left up to you, could you think up this complex plan? Then again, are you someone who believes that somehow this all happened from a huge bang and cosmic collision in space? No friend, it is all part of God’s plan. For there to be life, there must be death.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

For there to be eternal life, there also had to be a death. Jesus came from heaven to die on the cross so that our sins were paid for so that we might have eternal life. Life and death are in God’s hands. He loves us and does what is best for us, even when it makes no sense to us. Jesus’ death made no sense, as He had never sinned. However, without His death, we could not have eternal life. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am THE WAY.” Only by his death and then His resurrection do we have eternal life.

Why do you think people try other ways,
when Jesus made it clear He is the only way to heaven?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 19:25-26
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever felt life was all going bad? Your entire day seemed to be one catastrophe after another. Nothing you did went right. At the end of the day, you just want to get in bed, cover your head, and pretend as if it all never happened. Tomorrow, you say, will have to be better. Well, do not feel alone, everyone has had those days.

However, our worst day probably was not as bad as the worst day in Job’s life. He lost his home, his livelihood, his livestock, his children, his servants, and his health. All he really had left was his wife, and she wanted him to curse God and die. Does your day seem so bad now?

During those bad times, if you are like most people, you tend to ask why God is doing this to you. What did I do to deserve this? So did Job, kind of. He asked why he was ever born in the first place. Why could he not have died at birth? Yup, now that is a bad day. However, in our verses today in Job 19:25, 26, Job says something interesting. He never gave up on God, and he knew God had not given up on him. Why, because he saw how God had been real to him in the good times. He had a real relationship with a real God, and no number of bad days or terrible circumstances could make that go away.

Bad days come and go. You will probably have another one someday. (You probably did not want to hear that right now, right?) Nevertheless, one thing that will never change in your life is God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. A preacher once said to me, “If you get a grip on God’s hand in the daylight, you will not have to go searching for it in the dark.” That sounded good to me then and still seems like great advice today. Grab God’s hand, never let go, and let Him lead. Your bad day will not be as bad with God by your side.

Are you holding on to the nail-scarred hand today?

God’s Take On The Economy
October 29, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

2 Corinthians 9:6-8
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

In today’s economy, it is hard to understand the idea of “If I give away some of my money, I will be better off.” This idea just seems to go against the grain of everything we have learned about economics. Like “saving for a rainy day” or “a penny saved, a penny earned.” However, let’s look at it for a second, shall we?

This Corinthian church was giving to another group of people whom they did not know. Setting money aside for others, they had never met. Some might call this tossing money into the wind. However, God has said he would supply for our needs through men. We read in Luke 6:38 where God says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Therefore, for God to keep His Word, people must also give. However, where do people get the money to give in the first place? It comes through other people in gifts or a job given to you! So, who encourages these people to give or not to give to you? The answer is that God does through the Holy Spirit. If you are a giver, then God has no problem wanting people to bless your life. If you are a Scrooge, you only get the little bits you can scrape together. Isn’t it funny how some people seem to get more and more blessings from God, while others just get by? OK, so it is not funny. Truly, it is somewhat sad. It is sad that many people have not learned the joy of giving to God and watching Him bless them in so many different ways. It is still Economics 101. In order to gain, you must invest. So, where are you investing?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:” Your God is truly able to supply all your needs if you will gladly give your all to Him.

What has God entrusted to you to be faithful with?
