  A Trust Reassured

January 25, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 49-50 / Matthew 15:21-39

 

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 50:24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

 

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

    Today, when it comes to land management, every detail must be documented and signed by witnesses. To entrust land to another party may include a Revocable Trust. A legal definition of a Revocable Trust: “Also known as a living trust, allows you to retain control of the assets during your lifetime. It is flexible and can be dissolved at any time, should circumstances or intentions change. A revocable trust typically becomes irrevocable upon the death of the grantor. You can name yourself trustee and retain ownership and control over the trust, its terms, and assets during your lifetime, but make provisions for a successor to manage them in event of your incapacity or death.” With this Trust, it would be good on occasion to reassure the person you have entrusted land to, this is still your intention.
    

     When God promised Abram the land on the other side of the Jordan, his family may have thought they would never leave that land. However, time and again we find the descendants of Abraham on and off this promised land. When off the land, others moved in, built homes there and took over. However, God never entrusted this land to them. He retains ownership of it. He may entrust it to whom He chooses. In today’s verse Joseph reminds the family, God will bring you back to the old homestead. He gave it to our forefathers, He still holds the deed, and He always keeps his Word. It is just a little reassurance.

 

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

    There is another land promised to those who trust in Christ. An inheritance in heaven. In Ephesians 1:13 & 14 it says the Holy Spirit is the earnest, proof of our inheritance.

  A Truth Restated

January 24, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 46-48 / Matthew 15:1-20

 

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 48:16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

 

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

   

     Years ago, I sold printing and advertising. I read several books on how to sell things. I went to seminars to help me be a better businessman. One such session that I attended was on how to better understand and remember your customer, and how to be remembered by them as well. Part of what they taught reinforced what I had been reading. They said in order to remember things, repeat them often. If you are meeting a new customer, ask their name and then use it often during your conversation with them. Whether we know it or not, everyone likes to hear their name spoken aloud. Also, repeating something several times helps lock it into our memory. Actually, this was God’s idea way before man thought they came up with it.  

 

     God shared a truth with Abram in Genesis 12:2-3. He said, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”  This was restated several times to Abraham, then to Isaac, and then again to Jacob. Now Jacob is making sure this truth is never forgotten. God is using him to say it yet again to the next generation.

 

     God does not restate His promises to make them happen. He does it to help us to remember. 

 

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

     God’s Word is still His promises and still His truth. God used Jacob to restate His promises and truth to the next generation. He should be using us to do the same thing.

  A Thought-out Reunion

January 23, 2023
Daily Reading – Genesis 44-45 / Matthew 14

GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 45:7 And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

 

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

     The birthday cake is ordered, check. The balloons and helium are ordered, check. All the decorations have been purchased, check. The invitations have been sent, check. Does that remind you of the mental maneuvers you went through the last time that you were in charge of putting together a simple birthday party. You had a whole year to plan and prepare, yet the final details seem overwhelming at times. Add to that it is a surprise party so you cannot let the guest of honor find out what you are doing. AHHHH!!!

    Now imagine planning a surprise reunion for hundreds of people. There is an entire family of people God is preparing to reunite. A well-thought-out reunion indeed. How long did God plan this? Well according to Genesis 37:2 Joseph was seventeen when he was sold into slavery. Genesis 41:46 says He was thirty when he interpreted Pharaoh’s dream and made second in command. Egypt enjoyed seven years of plenty, and Genesis 45:6 says they had been in famine for two years. This puts Joseph at thirty-nine years old. So, if our math is correct, does that mean God planned this reunion for twenty two years? Actually, it was a lot longer than that. God has every detail of all eternity well planned out. Before Joseph was born, this reunion was in the working. Joseph said, “God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.” 

 

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

    An even greater reunion was thought-out and planned for those who have accepted Christ as Saviour. Jesus was sent before to preserve you and save your life by a great deliverance.

 January 21 – Daily Reading – Genesis 42 – 43 / Matthew 13:36-58

 GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 43:23 And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

 

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

    People have been searching for lost or hidden treasures for years. What a joy after hunting and searching to find the reward at the end of it all. It almost makes you forget all the time and toil that went into finding the treasures you have sought. But what if the treasure searched for you?

 

    Joseph’s brothers were scared when they found that the money, they had brought to buy food from Egypt was back in the top of their sack along with the food. This did not seem like a treasure, it felt like a trap. In Genesis 43:18 it says, “And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.” They were sure it was a trap. However, in today’s verse Joseph’s Steward tells them; “…fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks:…” In other words, because of your God, the treasure found you.

 

     If we would stop for a moment to look back at our life, we will see that along the way, God has sprinkled treasures into each of our lives. Most often treasures we were not even searching for. Blessings he spread along our way. Placing a treasure to find on top of His provisions for us. 

 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

    James 1:17 says every good gift is from above. If we realize that, our heart begins to treasure all that is above. Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. If God becomes the treasure we seek, our heart is there with Him..  

 

Could your heart be the treasure God has been seeking?

A Question Of Prophecy

 January 14 & 15, 2023
 January 14 – Daily Reading – Genesis 29 – 30 / Matthew 10

 GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 30:43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses.

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

    Alright, after you read the first sentence of this devotion, close your eyes and think really hard, in ten years from today what will the weather be like? Ok, even the weather channel cannot get tomorrow correct so that is not fair. How about tomorrow? Can you tell me what is going to happen tomorrow in your neighbor’s home? You might ask, how in the world could I possibly answer those questions without guessing and hoping I get something right? The answer is simple, you cannot. None of us can predict all the details of the future and be right one hundred percent of the time. Only God can do that.

    When it comes to prophecy, God is always right. At the end of Genesis 30 we read of the beginning of God fulfilling His prophecy to Abraham. Back in Genesis 12:2-3 God told Abram; “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” His grandson Jacob brought a blessing to the house of Laban because God was blessing Laban through Jacob. Jacob’s increase was God’s providing and doing exactly as He promised. When it comes to prophesy, God cannot be wrong because He just does whatever He said He was going to do. When you can do whatever you desire, it is hard to be wrong about anything. 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

    When God says something will happen, it will. Whatever God has promised you in scripture, it is a done deal. God’s prophecies always come true exactly as He says. It is really not a question of prophesy coming true, but of who is doing the prophesying.  

Who are you going to believe?

 

 THE WEEK IN REVIEW:

     We are an inquisitive bunch of people. It begins early in life asking what, why, and when about life’s wonders. This week I pray God’s Word may have answered:

  ● A Question Of Providing

  ● A Question Of Prophecy      
 
     As you can plainly see, when it comes to God “There is no Question about it, He is GOD!”
