Don’t Be A Castaway

SEPTEMBER 7, 2026
Daily Reading—Pro. 1-3 / 1 Co. 11

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

    We’ve all heard of someone who has said something like, “I don’t want to go to Church, they’re just a bunch of Hypocrites.” At that moment, you want to tell them, “Well, there’s always room for one more!” However, politeness doesn’t allow that. The problem is one that Paul addressed here in 1 Corinthians 9:27.

 

    Paul said we must all watch how we live our lives. Keeping our fleshly desires in subjection, or under control. Otherwise, when we tell someone how much we love God, His Word, and His church, they may look at our lifestyle and think, “REALLY, what you’re saying and how you live doesn’t match up.” At that moment, our testimony and their desire for Christ are then cast away.

You don’t want to be a castaway do you?

To Live OF The Gospel

SEPTEMBER 5 & 6, 2026
Daily Reading—Psa. 144-150 / 1 Co. 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

    I do realize that in this passage of scripture, Paul is teaching the church to care for their Pastor. These men who preach the Gospel should also be taken care of by those to whom they preach. However, if you would allow me to, let me stretch this just a bit further.

 

    A pastor should live OF the gospel. His faith in Christ and willingness to serve God do not demand payment but rather accept it as from the Lord by the hand of man. All believers, not just pastors, should live this way. Not trusting the world and its payment methods to support us, but trusting that it is God through these methods who is actually supplying for our needs. It all belongs to Him, so anything we receive, we receive from Him.

     On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in your pastor’s heart. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message.
Then, when you get home, reread those passages for today’s reading.
God has given your pastor exactly what He desires for you to have on that day.

Serve God Where You Are

SEPTEMBER 4, 2026
Daily Reading—Psa. 138-143 / 1 Co. 9

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 7:23-24 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

    I see two areas of concern with those wishing to serve the Lord. First, there are those people who fear the idea of change. They are afraid that if they totally surrender to the Lord, they will end up being a missionary in Antarctica. On the other hand, there are some who, immediately after accepting Christ, want to Pastor a megachurch and change the world.

 

    The answer to both would be the same. Serve where you are. Do not worry about leaving unless God directs your path. Serve in the area where you accepted Christ. God does not call everyone to leave, nor does He call everyone to stay. He does, however, call everyone to serve.   

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Isn’t there something you can do for the Lord right where you are today?

Washed Away, Not To Stay

Daily Reading—Psa. 130-137 / 1 Co. 8 

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

    Whenever I did the laundry, I expected the clothes to come out clean. I would spot treat any difficult stains, place the garment in the right temperature of water, add bleach if necessary, and add detergent. The expectation was that the dirt would be washed away, not washed and stay there. Anything that could not be cleaned was often tossed in the garbage.

 

    Sadly, today, many people want to ask God to wash away their sins, yet still live in them. What they are asking is, “Please let me keep my sin, but do not punish me for it.” Today’s verse begins, “such were,” meaning in the past. Sin is dealt with and gone. It then says, “ye are,” meaning presently cleansed.

Did you ask God to wash away your sin or just the penalty?

Be A New LUMP

SEPTEMBER 2, 2026
Daily Reading—Psa. 120-129 / 1 Co. 7

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

    When Paul wrote today’s verse, he was writing to the entire Church of Corinth. He was warning them about sin in the church. However, the church is made up of people. We as individuals should also be asking ourselves, what old leaven, or old ways in my life should I purge, or change so as to be a new LUMP?

 

    I took the word “LUMP” and made an acrostic to help us consider it. First, L is for LOVE. How may I not be loving as I should? U is for UNBELIEF. Where might my faith be lacking? M is for MINISTRY. God, where should I serve you? Finally, P is for PRAISE. Do I praise God enough? Let’s remove the old leaven from our lives to shape our churches into what God intends for them to be.
