It’s A War Of Wills

JANUARY 14, 2026
Daily Reading – Genesis 29-30 /  Matthew 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years, as I have read today’s verse, I have seen both positive and negative. If you try to hold on to life, you lose all the benefits of following Christ. If you let go of your hold on life, you will find joy in both this life and the life to come. I still believe this to be true. However, today as I read it, I found another understanding of it.

As I read, “He that findeth his life shall lose it:” I thought of a man who had found in his life that earthly holdings are futile. Fame, riches, and pleasures all pass away. Therefore, he decides to give his life to God. So then when it says, “he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it,” it could be talking about the same person. Either way you read this, it still says, to enjoy this life and eternity, we must surrender our life to God’s will.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What hold on life might you surrender today?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Daily Reading—Genesis 21-23 / Matthew 7

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 7:28-29 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

If a man builds a boat from scratch, he remembers every detail about it. He recalls the splinters and how to avoid them. He recalls the hours invested and the sacrifices made to build a vessel that will withstand the storms and hold up over time. If a man reads about building a boat, he can only share what he has read.

When Jesus taught with authority, it was because He knew what it took to build a life. Not like the scribes who read about it yet never met the builder. Christians have met the builder. Better yet, we have a testimony of what He built into our lives.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

When you share Christ with others, do you speak as one with authority?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Daily Reading—Genesis 15-17 / Matthew 6:1-15

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

“Hallowed be thy Name.” The term “Hallowed” is not one we use too often today. However, Hallowed is so important in this prayer. You see, God’s name is special. “Hallowed” means set apart from all others, Holy, Sanctified, or Pure. It is not like Frank or George. It is special. It says in the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:7, “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.” In essence, He is saying, “My Name is special; treat it so.”

Sadly, today, we all too often hear people use Jesus, Oh God, or Christ as part of comments that have nothing to do with Him.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

How can we Hallow His name in our hearts and help others do the same?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are one or two things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

What Do You Call Him?

JANUARY 2, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 3-5 / Matthew 2

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

In Matthew 2:15, it says Jesus was called out of Egypt. Egypt has long been a biblical picture of the world. We find here that Jesus gave a great example to all humanity. As did Israel, Jesus came out of Egypt, a picture of coming out of the world or worldliness.

In verse 23, it says He was called a Nazarene. The people of Nazareth were not looked upon fondly. To be called a Nazarene was a sign of contempt. Christians, too, are often unfairly labeled and are called names by the world after accepting Christ. It matters not what the world calls Jesus.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The most important question is, what do you call Him?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?

God Takes Pleasure In You!
December 30, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 149:4
For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Way too often, people get the misguided idea that God is some big bully in the sky waiting to pounce on us when we disobey in the least little way what we consider as sin. Although indeed God cannot tolerate sin, it is also true that He is a patient and loving God. Just as a loving father would be overjoyed if one of his children, who made an error in judgment, saw the error, and did what was necessary to make it right without being told, so God also finds happiness in us when we do what is right without being told. God finds pleasure in His children who truly love Him. He enjoys them and takes pleasure in providing for their well-being and their needs.

I find it comforting to know, God does not find pain and disgust with us. What a great joy it is also to think He finds pleasure in us. He will also beautify the humble of heart with salvation. This is a picture of what God is doing and will do for His children. What does it mean that God beautifies the meek? Well, picture if you will how you might beautify a doll or a child by dressing them in nice attire. How during the Christmas Season, many people will beautify a tree by placing pretty ornaments on it. In the same way, God beautifies us when He clothes us in His righteousness. He will adorn us, or place upon us the righteousness of His Son Jesus Christ. In other words, He gives us His best, His Son, Jesus Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God has given to us His best, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, for salvation. He finds great pleasure in us and loves us. Should we not do the same? Can we show Him love and adoration as we share His love with others at the end of this year? As God finds pleasure in us, let’s find pleasure in serving Him.

How might you show God adoration this Holiday Season?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Do I find within this reading a CHALLENGE for my life?
