The Heart Of The Matter

JANUARY 23, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 46-48 /  Matthew 15:1-20

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There is a lot of showiness in many churches today. I am not saying it is all bad or carnal. However, I am not saying it is all God-honoring either. You can put on a great production, have it all sound good, and even call the name of Jesus from time to time, and yet not honor God. Worship is not about the professionalism of the show. Worship is about the purpose of the heart.

This week, many who read this will attend what is called a Worship Service. However, we must remember, worship is not about how well you sing or how many times you say amen. For it to be a genuine worship service, you need to draw near to God with your heart.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

How can your worship of God today
prepare you to better worship God this Sunday?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Honor God

JANUARY 21, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 42-43 /  Matthew 13:36-58

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 13:57-58 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Today’s verses say Jesus was not honored in His own country. Many pastors have looked for ministries away from where they grew up for this reason. However, read it again. Not only was He not honored in His own country, but also in His own house. It may have been that they were too familiar with Jesus to see what God wanted to do through Him.

Many today have walked away from God’s House, the church, and fellowship. They feel they have heard it, seen it, and do not need any more. However, could it be that in doing so, they are not honoring Jesus again in His own house? He just might use them if they stayed.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What might He do in our midst if we would
stay in awe of Him and all He can do?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

Real Rest

JANUARY 16, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 33-34 / Matthew 11:20-30

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It was very possible that in today’s verse, Christ was speaking to Jewish people who had been oppressed by the ceremonial and ritualistic laws of their religion. He was saying to them, If you embrace me as your Saviour, you can then rest from these burdensome, legalistic, man-made laws. That had to sound good.

As we read it today, He is telling us the same thing. Many have searched for the truth in life and tried to find it in work, wealth, worldliness, and whatever might fill that emptiness inside. In John 14:6, it says Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Once you find that Jesus’ way is the truth of life, you can rest from the constant search.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Will it be His way of rest or your way of worry?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

It’s A War Of Wills

JANUARY 14, 2026
Daily Reading – Genesis 29-30 /  Matthew 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years, as I have read today’s verse, I have seen both positive and negative. If you try to hold on to life, you lose all the benefits of following Christ. If you let go of your hold on life, you will find joy in both this life and the life to come. I still believe this to be true. However, today as I read it, I found another understanding of it.

As I read, “He that findeth his life shall lose it:” I thought of a man who had found in his life that earthly holdings are futile. Fame, riches, and pleasures all pass away. Therefore, he decides to give his life to God. So then when it says, “he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it,” it could be talking about the same person. Either way you read this, it still says, to enjoy this life and eternity, we must surrender our life to God’s will.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What hold on life might you surrender today?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?
