KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Lamentations 5:7-8
Our fathers have sinned, and are not; and we have borne their iniquities. Servants have ruled over us: there is none that doth deliver us out of their hand.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

When our forefathers of the United States of America began the framework of this great country, they did so based on principles written in God’s Word. It was truly a nation intended to be under the authority of the One and Only True God. Most of the colonies and states required a person to be a God-fearing individual before they could run or be considered for office. Today, it is very much the opposite. Crooks, liars, actors, or thieves have a better chance in politics today than anyone who might stand up and say, “I believe in the one true God.” The belief seems to be that crooks, liars, actors, and such are everywhere, so they must represent the people in general. The fear of the masses today seems to be that “Godly people are too far right and would bring in a right-wing agenda.”

Friends, many of us might have to admit that our fathers have sinned. They allowed this to get this way. They voted for their pocketbooks and not their moral beliefs. They voted for the party line, not priestly living. They voted for a Charismatic Personality over a Christian Leader. Our fathers have sinned, and we are bearing their iniquities. Servants, or another way to say that would be “The Lost,” have rule over us. Psalm 12:8 says, “The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.” Oh, how true it was then, and how the same is true today. The more we vote for sinful men and women into leadership, the worse it will always get. None of them can deliver us from this sinfulness. No program, pledge, policy, or platform can bring about righteousness. Only God can do that.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I know many people have quit reading already. They want to bury their head in the sand and say, “There should be a separation of the church and state.” Sadly, it was this type of thinking that got us here, and that thinking will only make things worse. Let’s vote for God when we have a chance.

When given the opportunity, will you vote for God and His will?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 120:2
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Life is hard enough on its own without someone adding to our troubles. We have the day-to-day task of living in a world filled with sin and trying to stay pure for the Lord. It appears almost impossible at times, with everything around us. On top of that, we get someone who tells stories about us or slanders our character with comments that are not true. It seems at times almost too much to bear. This sounds like what the Psalmist is saying in our verse today. Oh Lord, deliver me from those who lie and tell deceitful, untrue stories about me. Nevertheless, how can you protect yourself from it? Some people are just going to talk. Well, here are a couple of suggestions.

First, do as the Psalmist does here and pray for protection from these types of people. Ask God to protect your character from these types of attacks.

Second, have a character that is above reproach. Live your life daily so that if someone says something, no one will believe him or her. Their accusations just make them look silly.

Finally, pray for them. Do not just pray for God to keep them from you. Pray that He might also change their heart. They could be your next best friend.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Malicious gossip does not help anyone. No one ever looks bigger by ridiculing or making someone else look smaller. It only breaks up relationships, and the Bible says God hates it. Remember, the Bible does not say God hates the person, just the sin. If we do our part to live a godly life, lovingly pray for those who might tell tales, and turn it all over to the Lord, He will see us through.

Think about how you might handle your next encounter with a

talebearer in a Christ-honoring manner?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 119:71
It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Driving in most cities today requires considerably more concentration than in the past. This is due to several things. One, there are more drivers on the road today. If you go into any good-sized city around noon, you will know exactly what I mean. There are hundreds of people trying to get somewhere in a hurry. Two, I am getting older. My reflexes are not as quick as they used to be, and my patience seems to have shortened at times as well. Third, according to most drivers, everyone else on the road is stupid, except for them. So, with hundreds of people driving on the same roads, and many with short tempers, what keeps traffic going? It is the traffic laws. These laws tell us when and how long to wait at a light and who goes first at a four-way stop. There are hundreds of these laws written that we are supposed to know. Surprisingly, we seem to know most of them.

How did we get so smart? Was it by sitting down and memorizing all those laws? Well, for some, maybe, but most of us learned them by seeing that these laws made sense. We see reminder signs along the roads. We have found out how these laws work together for all of us. A special person with flashing lights on top of their car taught us some of the laws. If this happened to you, I bet you drove away thinking, “Oh boy, I learned another lesson!” Yeah right. You were most likely upset you were caught, just like everyone else. However, as we mature, most of us realize that even the laws we do not like have a purpose.

The same is true in life. When God allows things into our lives that hurt, it never seems fair. However, God teaches us something with every situation in life. Sometimes, He is simply saying, “Trust Me.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

With every trial in life, there is a lesson to be learned or a character to be developed. As God molds us into who He needs us to be, we must accept that He is doing this for His good first and ours also. He made all the statutes, or rules, so we could all get where we are going in life safely and according to His plan. The question here might be Where are you going? God will get you there if you let Him lead.

So, where is God leading you in life?

Where He Leads Me!

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 23:11
And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever wanted to begin a new project, start, or update a ministry, and then you run into someone who says, “NO, I do not think you ought to do that!” When asked why, the response is like, “Well, I just don’t, I do not like it.”

How frustrating it can be for a Pastor or leader to hear well-meaning individuals share what appears to be childlike feelings. It seems there is a lack of prayer and absolutely no Biblical reasoning behind this type of response. How do you help someone understand the scriptural relevance of something if they are not in the scripture? If they operate on feelings, how can you show them the truth in the word? If God is directing you to do something and someone says, “No, I just do not like it,” what do you do?

Before today’s verse, by now in his service to the Lord, Paul must have felt this way. He finds himself in prison, facing possible execution, attacked on every side, and uncertain of what to do next. However, God came to him and said in essence, “You are not done yet; I have work for you to do in Rome.” Oh, how this must have brightened his day. Was he still being persecuted? Yes! Was he still incarcerated? Yes! Does he have any idea of how he is going to get out of this mess? Not really. Except, God said he was going to Rome. Therefore, he knew he was not done yet. They could now come at him with all their empty threats, for he knew they could not kill him. Why, because God said he was going to Rome. All he had to do was keep his eyes on God and follow His lead, and he could not lose. God will win over man every time.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Are you facing a struggle in life? Do you know that where God’s leading you is scriptural? Are you claiming the promises of His Word and not just your feelings? If you can answer yes to these questions, then take heart. God is not through with you yet. Believe the promises of God and move forward because Jesus Never Fails.

Where is God leading you?

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 1:1-2 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

People in general never change. We may change our outward appearance a bit. Our lifestyles might change some. However, overall, people never really change. Adam and Eve started it all when they thought, “God won’t care if we eat just one bite… It is such a little sin. Surely, He won’t be too mad.” Do you remember the attitude of the people of Noah’s time? They may have said, “A flood, rain, what is rain? God is not that mad at us, Noah. Just look around you and see. He has not punished us yet, has He? Just leave us alone.” Then there were the Children of Israel spoken of in today’s verses, saying in essence, “God is not coming back. He has forsaken us. We have everything we need without Him. He is not even watching. Ezekiel, get a life.”

Still today, after all the evidence of the accuracy of God’s promises, people say, “I have never seen Jesus in the sky, so why should I believe that it will happen today?” They may not say it with their mouth, but with their lives, people say, “Really? My grandparents believed He was coming, my parents believed it too, and they have died, and He still did not come back. Preacher quit bothering us with this legalistic garbage of not sinning. God does not care about our little sins. He only cares about the big ones that I have not committed. Will you please leave us alone?”

However, just as with all those in the past who did not believe and mocked His coming and His judgment, there is still a price to pay for sin. His promises are sure. He shall return in the twinkling of an eye. Where will you be found on that day?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God’s Word says He will not be mocked. You cannot live a sinful life that makes a mockery of Christ’s death for that sin and still expect His blessings. If you do not care about His blessings, then you probably do not know Him. For me to live is CHRIST.

What do you think it means to mock God?
