Come As A Little Child

AUGUST 26, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Luke 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Babies are so cute. One of the joys of Grand parenting is that you get to love on those grandchildren, spoiling them rotten, and then send them home with their parents. Observed closely, you will see several common traits in small children. For example, if an adult shows a child some attention, they will come to you and are excited to be around you. They love to have your attention. They are also expecting you to be happy and playful. Babies want to be around joyful people.

Little children are also coming to you dependent on and desiring your care for them. Small children will do almost anything they are asked to do by someone bigger than they are. Adults tell them things like, “Jump off the counter, I will catch you!” What do they do? They jump! Why? Because they trust completely in your ability to catch them and believe you will. They are obedient without question.

Children are also imitators. Have you ever seen someone trying to work on something with small children around? The next thing you know the child is right there trying to do it to, asking that age-old question planted in the heart of every child. “WHY?” Why is this and why is that? Why do they ask why so much? Because they have come to you expecting to learn and wanting your help.

This is probably just scratching the surface of what Jesus was talking about when He said we as adults must come as little children.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

We must come to the cross believing and trusting. We should run to Jesus excited, happy, and wanting to be in His presence. We need to realize our dependence on Him and that He will take care of us. We should be always asking Him why, how, and what. Ever seeking the answers, He has written for us in His Word. We should want to be around Him and desire to help do what He is doing. Simply stated, we should come to Him as little children.

I’ll Fix Them!

AUGUST 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 25:21, 22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Ok, today is the day we get honest. Think for just a second, who is the one person who really rubs you the wrong way? Do not say it aloud… you do not want everyone to know! You know who it is. It is the person that when you see them coming you hide because you do not want to speak to them. The one individual who seems to always be really irritating. Maybe they have made you mad or possibly they have hurt you in some way. Perhaps they have caused you so many problems it is not even funny. So, do you have that person in mind? Well today is the day we fix their wagon. After all this time we are going to finally make things right. Jesus has shown us exactly what to do to people who treat us like this. Are you ready for the remedy? Here it is. Treat them as Jesus treated you.

Remember back when you would do or say things that must have hurt Jesus? When you did that, what did He do? He laid down His life to save you. Can you recall all those times you neglected Him, called one of His children names or made fun of those Christians? Well, He sure got even with you. How? He loved you unconditionally. That will teach you to be ugly to Him.

Yes, Jesus tells us that we should treat our enemies with respect and love. That seems like a lot to ask. You may be wondering, “What do you get out of it?” God said He would reward you. Quite possibly, as you show the love of Jesus to someone else, God might give you a new Saved Friend.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Jesus loves the little children, ALL the children of the world, red, and yellow, black, and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world. Could Jesus show that love through you today, or is there something in the way?

Nothing In, Nothing Out

AUGUST 24, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 49:16-17 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

I heard a story once of four friends who had made an agreement. One of the men, being very wealthy, gave each of his three friends one million dollars each and made them promise when he died, they would put the money in the coffin with him as he was sure he could somehow take it with him when he died. Sure enough, sometime later the wealthy man died. When the funeral was over, the three friends were sitting together discussing what had just happened. The first of the three said, “I’m feeling really bad today guys. I need to confess, I only put two hundred and fifty thousand of the one million dollars in the coffin with our friend and kept the rest.” The second guy said, “I too am guilty of holding back on our friend. I only put in five hundred thousand of the one million dollars, and I too kept the rest.” The third man, with complete disgust in his voice said, “I cannot believe you two, as long as we were friends with him, and you would do such a thing. While he was alive each of you had the one million dollars in your bank to draw interest on and he never asked for a penny of that money. Now the man is dead, and you hold back on him. I am ashamed of you guys. I want you to know I wrote him a check for the entire amount and put it in the coffin with him.”

The Bible is very clear. We will take nothing to heaven with us when we go except others we have won to Christ.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In 1 Timothy 6:7 it says: “For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. “

August 23, 2021 – What Causes You To Fear?

What Causes You To Fear?

AUGUST 23, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

When do you feel scared? When are worries most likely to get to you? When is it that you become the most afraid? I am sure several of you had numerous answers. On the other hand, I would also imagine most of them fall into an area of either insecurity or unbelief.

Most people do not experience fear standing on the sidewalk of their local town. However, if you lived in Los Angeles, California and an earthquake began to shake the ground you were standing on you might be a little worried. Or if it was at night and you found yourself in a less than desirable or unfamiliar part of town you might find that you are a bit frightened. What changed? Was it the sidewalk? No. It was the situations you found yourself in. Situations or conditions which were out of your control.

One of the nice things about trusting in God is that you can know without a shadow of doubt nothing is out of His control. He never takes a break from watching over you. If you truly trust Him, He will be with you through all your fears. In fact, if we truly trust in Him, He will take away many of them.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In Proverbs 3:5-6 it says: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

August 21 & 22, 2021 – The Annual County Fair

The Annual County Fair

August 21 & 22, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 21:16The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

As a young boy, I would go to the County Fair whenever it would come to town. I would ride all the rides, play some of the games, and just have a great time. I remember while walking down the fairway people who operated the booths would be yelling out, “Hey, try your luck for fifty cents” or “twenty-five cents to see the multi-headed alligator.” Always yelling something crazy, trying to get you to come and see what they had.

Sometimes as a preacher, I feel like those carnival workers. Yelling at the top of my lungs “come see Christ, see what He’s done for you.” Doing my best to tell people, “for free, you can receive salvation, your admission price has been paid in full.” Nevertheless, it often seems to no avail as people wander by. Some will laugh, some just will not listen, while yet others do not believe that it is true. They wander out of the way of understanding and remain in the congregation of the dead.

I hope you do not think for one second that I am trying to cheapen the church to the likes of a carnival, or the gospel message to a carny’s cry. I am merely trying to illustrate the frustration of preachers who want so badly for people to hear of the free salvation offered by Christ. The disappointment and concern they feel for the unsaved, while watching people walk past in life and rejecting God’s message. As our verse said, “The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The rejection of the gospel is not surprising, just heartbreaking. Remember, Jesus said long ago, they are not rejecting you, they are rejecting Him. So, keep telling people as long as they walk by. Occasionally someone will listen, understand, and accept the truth of God’s love through His Son Jesus, and be saved.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.
