You Choose

December 3
Daily Reading – Daniel 7-8 / 1 John 3

GOD SAID:

Daniel 7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

OK, let’s just get it out there. The bold honest truth. I’m not the most athletic guy God ever created. OK, I said it. However, I, and most everyone I grew up with, have known this for years. Whenever people were picking teams, I was not normally the first one chosen. Oh, I jumped around yelling; “Pick Me,… Pick Me,” just like all the other kids. Yet the cold hard fact was, I wasn’t anyone’s first choice to help win a game. I wasn’t picked last, but I wasn’t chosen first either. I often thought, it would be nice, just once, if I could choose what team to be on instead of someone else choosing for me. To look over both teams, judge the players on each team, and then I would choose who to play with. I could pick me to be a part of the winning team. Sound like some sort of fairy tale dream? It’s not.

In the most important competition that will ever take place, you and I have the choice of which team to be a part of. In the final battle between Christ and the Devil and his followers we are told who wins. Here in Daniel 7:14 it says of Christ. “And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” He wins and You get to choose which side you will be on.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

There is a catch. You have to choose before you die. You have all the facts written down for you in God’s Word. It has always been completely accurate about everything. So the choice is yours to make.

If you haven’t already,
why not choose the right team today?

Yield Not To Temptation

December 2
Daily Reading – Daniel 5-6 / 1 John 1-2

GOD SAID:

Daniel 6:10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

When people voice their opinion as law, Christians often have the tendency to believe them, and do as they say. People will say; ”You can’t read your Bible in school.” If they’re talking of reading during class, they’re right. However, when it’s your lunch break or free time, you have as much right to read the Bible as someone else does Huckleberry Finn. When they say you can’t pray in school, they cannot stop you from bowing your head and having a conversation with God. Just because someone is demanding about their opinion, doesn’t make it law. However, what if it were the law? If it were illegal to pray or read your bible, would you? Or, would you yield to the temptation of following man’s law over God’s command. 1 Thess. 5:17 says; “Pray without ceasing.” Ps. 119:105 says; “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet…” I’m not encouraging people to break the law, but how far away from God will you be tempted to go. Where is the breaking point between obeying man’s wishes or God’s word?

In our passage today, the king had made a law. A law with deadly consequences. Daniel knew in his heart how far he would be tempted to yield to man’s desire over God’s command. Rom. 13:1 says; “be subject unto higher powers.” Those in leadership are allowed there by God. Yet, we cannot be told to forsake our God. We should not yield our right to worship God to their demand that there is no God.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Jesus said in John 9:4-5 “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” The bible also says, we are the children of Light.

Will you let your Light shine?

November 30 & 31, 2019 – Will Not Think About It

Will Not Think About It

November 30 & 31
Daniel 3-4 / 2 Peter 3 / Titus 2-3
November 31 – NO Daily Reading

GOD SAID:

Daniel 3:16-17 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Sometimes, it’s good to take time to think on things before making a decision. Like when you’re getting ready to change jobs, move to another city, or propose marriage. These are all things where you might want to consider all the possible variables, gain counsel from some wise friends, and spend some time in prayer over before you decide your course of action. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 15:22 that; “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.” Yet not everything in life requires us to go through such long consideration.

In today’s Bible reading the people in Babylon were directed to bow before an image of the king, and worship it. If they would not, the decree was that they would be killed by fire. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were brought before the king for refusing to bow before the statue. The king said in essence, think about it, and the next time people are directed to bow and worship, join them. However, in Daniel 3:16 they answered and said; “we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.” In other words, we will not think about it. To them there was nothing to think about. They would only bow to the one true God. There are things we shouldn’t have to think about. Do we read our Bible today or not? Do we spend time in prayer or not? Do we attend worship together with the church weekly or not? These are all no brainers.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

We don’t think before breathing, or about our heart pumping blood. In a healthy body, these things happen naturally. Reading God’s Word, spending time in prayer, and fellowship with God’s church should be natural in a healthy child of God as well.

Aren’t some things just unthinkable?

Novmeber 29, 2019 – Who To Listen To

Who To Listen To

 November 29
 Daily Reading – Daniel 1-2 / 2 Peter 2

GOD SAID:

Daniel 2:47 The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Who do you turn to find out about the future? Today there are mystics everywhere. Psychics are on TV, in Magazines, and on the radio. It seems that mainstream America is buying into this and believing them. Prime time TV shows have these Psychics in so people can find out about their long past loved ones. Broadcast Networks have programs highlighting dreamers and visionists as their main characters. Even the police have been duped into yielding to satanic powers, calling in so called mediums to help solve cases. I guess that kind of makes sense. Who knows better about crime than the head of sin, the devil himself. Might as well ask him.

The problem is, as I see it, it wont be long until we’re asked to accept this in the church. You’re probably saying, Pastor, there’s no way. Really? Several years ago there would have been no way anyone could have said that homosexuality would be in mainstream religion. Yet it is. Not long ago dancing in the church would have seemed ludicrous. Today, I see it on Church Programming all the time. Rock-n-Roll was considered wicked. However, now if you toss the name Jesus in it you can use for Sunday morning services. I may be wrong about it making it into church, but I’m sure I’m not wrong that it has made it into some Christian homes. Daniel knew, and so did the lost sinful King Nebuchadnezzar, no one else holds the truth about the future. Only God does.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Casting a vision for your life can be rewarding. Just be sure God is the focus of that vision. Do you want to know where your life should be headed? Psalm 119:105 says; “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
