They Want To Be Like You

February , 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 3:30-32 Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Guess what Christian? People want to be like you! For some of you that’s hard to understand. Why would someone want to be like me? I’m not rich, famous, or powerful. Why in the world would people want to be like me? The reason is that the ultimate goal of people is not money, fame, or power. What they want out of life is happiness, and security.

Some think money will bring happiness and security for them, but it never does. It may buy the pleasures of the world, but those things will always leave you empty in the end. A friend gained by money is not really a friend, they’re a mooch.

Some think if they were famous, everyone would love them. Again, not true. The price of fame is often being cold hearted enough to step on lots of people on the way up. Only those who don’t know you well, seem to adore you. Who wants friends you never get really close to. Are they really friends?

Some believe if they had power they could almost command their way to happiness. The reality is, with power comes overwhelming responsibilities. You’re never your own boss; others will always demand your time for something.

So why do people want to be like you Christian? Because, the secret of God is with you. You are the ones made righteous in His Son, Jesus Christ. You have true peace in life. You’re truly content with who you are in Christ, and are willing to share your joy with anyone. A crooked, or froward person, is an abomination to God. In other words, their way of life makes Him sick. However, in you Christian, is the secret of righteousness, Jesus Christ.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

As you go through your day, remember people are watching you. They want to see who Christ really is in your life. They want a real friend, real happiness, and joy. If they see it in you, they might want to come to know your Saviour. BE HAPPY!

It Is Written… Isn’t It?

February 6, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 3:27-29 Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“Cleanliness is next to godliness.” “God works in mysterious ways.” “God helps those who help themselves.” These three phrases can be found in Hezekiah 1:12. Now before you look them up, it’s a joke. There’s no Hezekiah 1:12. It sounded like there could have been, right? So what do these phrases have in common with Hezekiah 1:12? Like the reference, they’re not in the Bible. We use these phrases all the time, and want to believe they’re in the scripture, when actually they are not. In fact, they all three in some way contradict scripture.

  • Nothing in the Bible says God holds hygiene in any priority over anything else. A clean heart is what interests God. The Bible says the outside is only what man sees. (However, please take a bath. If not for God, at least for your neighbors. It’s hard for you to be a witness when people will not come near you.)

  • God does not always work in mysterious ways. It’s true, the ways of God are above men, and so sometimes hard to understand. Nevertheless, God has made His plans for this earth, and your eternal life very clear in His Word.

  • Finally, God does not always help those who help themselves. It’s in contradiction to what God has said about trusting in God. Our verses today show God also helps those who help others. God takes care of all our needs. If you are trusting in you, you’re faith is in the wrong place.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

“..If any would not work, neither should he eat.” That is in the Bible, (2 Thess. 3:10.) The phrase God helps those who help themselves isn’t. Actually, it should say, God helps those who help others and trust in Him. Let’s live out the word today.

Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep…

February 5, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 3:24-26 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Do you remember the little prayer you heard when you were a child? “Now I lay me down to sleep, Pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take, Amen.” What a comforting prayer for a child.

However, have you ever thought of using this prayer for an adult? When an unsaved person is alone, when there are no friends hooting and screaming, and all the activities have died down, what goes through their mind? I remember when I lived that way. Often I would wonder, “what if I would die tonight in my sleep?” What if the house caught on fire, and I didn’t make it out? What if someone broke in, and killed me? The people I hung out with were not always the nicest people. As far as that goes, neither was I. What if one of them got drunk, or high, and came to get even for something I said, or did? Where was I going after death? This simple little prayer can haunt an unsaved person.

This prayer, in all its sweetness, is not a salvation prayer. It never asks for forgiveness of sin. It never shows repentance for sin. It’s a fine children’s prayer before the age of accountability. As for an adult, we first must ask God to save us. Acknowledge that we are sinners, and ask God to forgive us. Invite Him to come into our heart, and dwell in us. Then when we lie down, we can sleep in sweet restful confidence that God is watching over us. Then, no matter what happens in the night, when we die we will be with Him.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Saved adults might need to change the prayer a little to say, “Now I lay me down to sleep, I know the Lord my soul doth keep. If I should die before I wake, I know the Lord my soul will take. AMEN!”

Come On, Just A Few More Steps

February 4, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 3:21-23 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

When we are just toddlers, our mothers, or fathers hold our hands and help us walk. Their strong, and loving arms support each step we take. However, not long after we can stand on our feet, parents try to make us walk on our own.

Have you ever watched, as one parent will hold a baby, while the other stands in front with their arms outstretched toward the child and says; “Come on, you can do it, come on”. Encouraging this toddler to let go and walk. What is the baby doing while walking toward the parent? Are they watching their feet? No. Do they look around at the sights that go by as they take this exciting journey? No. Do we see them stop from place to place to pick up something along the way? Once again, the answer is no. The baby is focused, watching their parent. Their eyes are fixed on the outstretched hands that are sure to catch them. Trusting they will make it if they just keep moving toward the loving voice, and safety of the parents grasp. If they look away, they usually stumble. Nevertheless, someone helps them back up, and sends them on their way again toward their destination. Then, when they get there, they hear cheering accompanied by hugs and love.

God has released us to walk through this world. We are sure to stumble if we get our eyes off God. However, He’s always there to pick us up again. Our destination, the loving arms of Jesus, as He welcomes home God’s children.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

As you read your Bible, listen closely, you can almost hear Jesus saying; “Come on, you can do it, come on, just a few more steps.” We must never lose sight of the love and safety that lies ahead. How can we get there safely? Listen to His instructions given in His Word. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look to Him, trust Him, and head for those nail scared, loving hands.
