Groundhog Day

October 28, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 26:14-16 As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

I once watched a movie called, “Groundhog Day.” In this movie, what seemingly was the worst day of this Anchorman’s life, started over every single day. The alarm would go off at the same time, the same song played on the radio, and everything was the same. However, he was the only one who knew it.

After a few days of this repetition and no one believing or remembering the next day what had happened, he decided to make the best of it. He asked a certain girl questions one day, and then used the information to impress her the next day. He used every bit of yesterday to help him have a better tomorrow. What seemed to be the worst day of his life, turned out to be a day he looked forward to, as every morning for him began brand new. However, not one other person changed a thing unless he was involved in their life and made a change happen. The following day those people would go back to doing exactly what happened on the first day if he did not get involved again.

We all know people just like that. They live the same life day after day, never changing anything. They keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Why do they do that?

The Bible says these people continually go back to their old ways. “As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.” Nevertheless, we do not have to live that way. God can change our life and make all things new. We also know people who take their yesterdays and use what they have learned to have a better tomorrow. They are excited to see what tomorrow may bring. They anxiously waiting to see how God will use them the next day. Question is, into which group do you fall?

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

For those of us who know Christ, every day should be a new day filled with anticipation of what God will do with us today. It is a brand-new day given to us by God. Let’s use what we learned in the past, to live a better life for the Him today.

Sitting In The Garage

October 27, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 26:11-13 As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly. Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him. The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

One of the saddest phenomena’s in the world today is the rotating doors of the church. As I have been blessed and given the opportunity to speak in several churches over the years, I am often saddened to hear of people who once appeared to be so on fire for God, now are back living in the world.

In the church I pastor, and in churches all across America we find the same thing happening time and again. You will see someone come to the church, get all excited about being there with so many loving people, join everything they can join, and do all types of great work in the church. They talk the talk of the born-again and go to every function that comes along. Then, some little detail of church or outside influence comes their way, and off they go back into the world, living as they did before they came to church.

Ask them are they saved, and they say, “Oh yes, I’m saved. I remember the date.” However, salvation is not a date, and is not some magic words you once said. Salvation is a real relationship with the Jesus Christ. Once you have a that relationship with Him, the world’s sinfulness will taste bad.

The Bible says a dog returns to his vomit, and a fool to his folly. The lost will always long for the world, but when a person is really saved, the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Some say the people who go back into the world have lost their salvation. Friend, you cannot lose what you most likely never had.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Enjoying church fellowship does not save you anymore than sitting in a garage makes you a car. True Christianity is not about fellowship, it’s about relationship. A real relationship with Jesus will make you desire the church fellowship. Do you have a relationship with Jesus or just a membership with church?

Does The Bible Really Say That?

October 26, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 26:6-10 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage. The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools. As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool. As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools. The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Have you ever heard someone try to use the Bible for his or her own selfish purpose? Like those who try to defend their daily consumption of alcohol by saying, Jesus drank, or at least made alcohol for others. Truthfully, Jesus did not drink alcohol. Not one verse ever indicates that Jesus ever drank alcohol. In addition, He would never do something that would cause a person to sin. The wine spoke of at the wedding feast was nothing more than modern-day grape juice, the fruit of the vine.

Lately I have heard that it is ok for a person to be a homosexual because, since God creates all things, God must have created them that way. Again, someone is trying to twist the Word of God. God did create all things. However, He did not create them to be gay, just as He never created anyone to go to hell. He created them to love Him. Homosexuality is a sin. God hates all sin. So therefore, He did not create them to do something or be someone who He would hate. They are choosing to be that way. God never hates people, just our sin.

Our verses today explain why people do such things with God’s Word. For example, why would it be absurd to bind a stone in a sling? Because a stone is supposed to fly out of the sling, not be bound in it. If it is bound in the sling, it becomes useless. Often a parable, or a portion of the Bible is taken out of context for selfish desires. Doing so teaches a half-truth, or a principle not intended.

One great problem we see is that those who misuse the Bible, often believe their misunderstandings to be absolutely true. Ultimately, it causes them, and many to suffer the results.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

The Bible has a true meaning and is consistent in its message throughout. It does not say one thing one place and another thing another. God and His Word are the same forever. You can count on it.

I’ll Be Saved When I Want To!

October 23, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 26:1-5 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool. As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back. Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“I’ll do what I want, when I want, and how I want.” That seems to be the attitude of most of society today. It’s a feeling that we are somehow free to do as we please.

There are some people who believe that if they go into the tribulation period with a clear understanding about God’s saving grace through His Son, and yet refusing to accept Christ as Saviour, that they will just get saved later. How foolish to think that somehow a person can mock an all Holy God and His invitation of salvation today and get away with it. There is always a price for disobedience. Our verses today say, just as there is, “A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass,” there is also, “a rod for the fool’s back.” There is always a price to pay for un-repented sin.

Salvation is free and available today, but tomorrow may be too late. Some believe they will be saved whenever they want, but this is simply not true. Someone can only be saved when God is calling and doing a work in his or her heart. Does this do away with man’s freewill? NO. Everyone has the freedom to accept or reject Christ, but not the freedom to belittle God’s grace by making a mockery of His desire to save them. People cannot thumb their nose at God’s invitation forever.

Is God still calling the world to be saved? Yes, He is telling them there is another way, and a better way to live. If they will listen and put their trust in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, He will give them His Spirit. This Holy Spirit will then help them understand God’s Word. Otherwise, the truth of Scripture is, as our verse says, “as snow in the summer,” it may not make sense. They may ask, “How can the Holy Spirit make sense of God’s Word to me?” The answer, “He wrote it.” 2 Peter 1:21 says: “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Good News, if you sense God calling you right now, it is not too late to be saved. Ask Jesus into your heart today, Right Now! If you are saved, share the good news while there’s time.
