What’s On Your Mind?

JANUARY 6, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 9:2-3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever gone through a haunted house at the Fair or some Amusement Park? As you come around a corner, something suddenly jumps out and scares you half to death. It is scary and yet at the same time it is fun because we know it was planned this way. This frightening experience was designed not to hurt us, but for our enjoyment. As they designed it, they knew how our mind would react to what they did. This type of planning is not really mind reading; it simply knows the nature of people. The idea of someone actually being able to read our minds moment by moment seems rather intimidating. This means EVERY thought we have they would know.

Well, the Bible passage we read above teaches us Jesus can do just that. He knows every thought we have. That means our harsh thoughts toward someone, and the “get even” mindset we sometimes have. He knows everything. Some would probably say, “I don’t like it.” However, this means Jesus can also hear those good thought in our hearts. He can hear our praise toward Him and our worship of Him. I guess that would be the reason why Paul wrote in 2 Cor. 10:5, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” We should bring even our thoughts into captivity and use them to praise and honor our God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you go through the day from time to time, think about this. If what you were thinking were being played over a loud speaker or displayed on a big screen for all to see, would it be pleasing to those around you? Here is something else to ponder. Consider the thoughts you are thinking right now… are also running through the mind of Jesus. It might change the way we think on things.

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Today I would like you to think back with me to a time you may have been to a restaurant and ordered a meal. The server brings it to your table, and you begin to enjoy it. Your meal is prepared just as you ordered it and is delicious. Then you look over at the next table and they have the exact same thing but with onion rings instead of fries. You begin to think, hey why didn’t I get onion rings instead of fries? The answer is simple, you did not ASK for what they have.

Sometimes we are shortchanged in life not because something is not available to us, but because we did not ASK.

In Matt. 7:7, the verse says Ask, Seek, and Knock. Even the initials of these three words spell ASK. The way the verse is written means for us to continually ask, to keep seeking, and to persistently knock. When you go to the door of someone’s home, you knock until someone comes to the door, or you realize the people who live there are not home. Guess what? God is never away, He is always home, so just keep knocking until you get an answer.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Asking shows dependence on God. Seeking displays a yearning for Him. Knocking demonstrates persistence. So, spend your time persistently yearning for and asking God for the desires of your heart according to His will. WOW. Do you know what happens then? You have just spent a whole day talking with God. Now that might change your life!

Guard Your Heart

JANUARY 4, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

We put up fences to guard our yard from outsiders and to guard others from our pets. We build large buildings with locks to protect our belongings. We put our money in safe places like a bank or a vault. Why, because all of these things are of value to us. However, how do we guard our heart?

In Proverbs, we are told to keep, or guard our heart because it is where all of life stems from. How do we do that? The verses that follow this one in chapter 4 of Proverbs help us with this idea.

Verse 24 says to put away a “forward mouth,” and “perverse lips.” To be froward is to be crooked or departing from what is right. Do you want to guard your heart? Keep your conversations and your mind on what is right. Do not get sidetracked into thinking about things that are sinful and wicked. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…” God wants our minds focused on what is right so our mouth will say what is right. Be careful not to be mean to others as we may hurt them deeply with our words.

Verses 25-26 says to keep your eyes on the path before you. Keep focused on what really matters. The eyes are a great tool which God has blessed us with. Nevertheless, Satan likes to use them to bring temptations our way. It happened to Eve. It happened to David with Bathsheba. Do not let Satan drag you off course.

Vs 27 says to keep on keeping on. Do not let the world entice you. Guarding our heart will help us in our talk and our walk with Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Matt. 6:33-34 tell us to seek first the kingdom of God and not to be too concerned about tomorrow because as you well know, there will be plenty to deal with tomorrow already. So, plan ahead, but do not worry about it until you get there. Keep walking the path set forth for today and let God guide you in your walk.

News Worth Reading…

JANUARY 2 & 3, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 2:10-11 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Television, Radio, Internet, and the Daily Newspaper will all claim that they have the most accurate coverage of what is happening. They even tell you that being informed is your right. This right to know everything is often declared as part of the Freedom of Information Act or our Freedom of Free Speech. Our Constitutional Rights are something Americans have fought hard for over the years. Now technology has given us the ability to know what is happening within moments of its occurrence. It is true that sometimes the news we get does help, but often it really makes little difference in our lives at all. It is generally useless information which changes nothing in our daily lives, and sometimes it is incorrect information at that.

I do however know where there is information which will make a difference in your day today, and it is always accurate. In our verses in Proverbs today we are told, when wisdom enters into our heart, and knowledge is something which pleases our inner soul, then we will be able to decide correctly for ourselves what is right and what is wrong. These verses also tell us that by having the wisdom only God can share and being confident that this information is always 100% correct, it will keep you all the days of your life.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

OK, now you want to know all of what God says, and you want to know everything today. Well, I am sorry, but unless you can read all of God’s Word today and absorb all of what you read, you probably cannot know it all today. However, you can know this, if you know Jesus as your Saviour, the Holy Spirit who resides in you knows the whole book from front to back. If you will allow Him, He will guide you in the paths of righteousness. This does not get you off the hook of reading God’s Word. The Bible and its wisdom are what the Holy Spirit will use to guide you. So read some, believe it all, ask God for direction, and walk in the Lord. Now finally, there really is some news worth reading.

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

A New Way, A New Walk,
A New World…

JANUARY 01, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 1:1-2 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

We have awakened today in the beginning of a new year. New opportunities seem just around the corner. New goals get set every year at this time. Plans for a better way, a new walk, a new world, seem ever so possible today with the fresh beginning of a brand-new year. The truth is that new walk, new world, and new way are available any day. All we need to do is turn to Christ and we can realize the same feeling of beginning again any day of the year.

In the very first chapter of the book of Psalms, we see just how this is possible. It tells us not to listen to those negative people who tell you, “You’ll never change.” Look them in the eye and tell them, “You are so right; I cannot change on my own, but with the help of God and the Holy Spirit who resides in me, all things are possible.” With God doing the changing and not we ourselves, everyone can be changed for the better. Walk not in the negative council of this ungodly world which scorns everything you try to do for God. Make the Bible your delight. Find in it the truths to stand against Satan and the world. This Bible says in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Now the rest is up to you… Whom are you going to believe today? The world who says you cannot, you will not, and you do not stand a chance? Or will you believe God who plainly has said if you delight in His Word and meditate on it then you can, you will and you have every chance for life to be better. In other words, think on the good things He has for you. Believe what His Word says is true. Then God says ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. So, who are you going to believe, God, or man? What a great day today can be when you know who God is. When you know He is on your side, by your side, and even inside you at every turn today. A New Way, a New Walk and in a New World is just outside your door. Enjoy your walk with God today.
