Light The way… How?

JANUARY 18, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

You remember the old saying, “Do what I say, and not what I do.” Who was the genius who thought up this crazy line? I mean really, what makes anyone think that others might think this is a good idea? Think about it, when someone tells you to do something and then will not do it themselves, do you really want to do it. Even worse, they tell you how horrible something is, like smoking or drinking, and then they turn right around and do what they are telling you not to do. You begin to wonder if you can believe them. You may begin to ask yourself if what they are saying is what they genuinely believe.

Do we teach children not to swear by cussing at them? Do we teach them to respect others by cutting down everyone we know? Does any of this make sense? No! Yet we want people to come to Christ and live the life of a Christian, but then live just like the world lives. Can you really expect someone to want to become something you are not willing to live out? Where is the joy in the Christian life of which you speak? Where is the love for God you tell them you have? What about this great fellowship and love for the people you speak of, but never seem to want to be around more than once a week for one hour at a time. Yes, I am convinced. I am convinced that James was right when he said in James 2:20 “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If we want to make a difference in a person’s life, we need to be a living example of what we are saying we believe. We must live for Jesus every day. Ask God to help us through the power of His Holy Spirit who resides in us. He is our strength and our guide. We as believers must walk in the light of His Word. Then we can watch others be attracted to the light, His light.

JANUARY 16 & 17, 2021 – Easy, Quick Or Great?

Easy, Quick Or Great?

JANUARY 16 & 17, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

The world today seems to want to make everything easier and quicker. We have fast food restaurants, online stores, and online or drive through banking, I even heard of a McDonald’s type church service. Quick in and out, no frills just the basics. WOW. When you have so little time for God, it just does not sound like worship to me.

Nevertheless, friends it is not a new idea. Even during the time when Jesus walked the earth, people were asking, “Give me the basics, I mean just the barest I need to know.” Therefore, Jesus did just that. He told them first, love Me completely. Not just part of you, all of you. Make me the center of everything in your life. Next, show the people around you the same type of love that I have had for you. The idea was that if you had given Jesus your whole self, heart, mind, and soul, then loving others as He did should be no problem.

You know what happened? They walked away the same way they came. Looking for something more out of something less, they missed the simplicity of salvation because of unbelief. Salvation is so simple. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ completely, and He will save you completely. True worship will take time. Salvation happens in a moment.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The answer is in total surrender. If you will simply surrender your life to the one who created you, who wants the best for you, and put your faith in Him, He will be your Lord, and you will be a child of God. He does not want to ruin your life and destroy your happiness. He wants to guide you into real everlasting joy.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

JANUARY 15, 2021 – God Made A Promise

God Made A Promise

JANUARY 15, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Genesis 28:15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Has anyone ever made you a promise and then not come through? How upsetting. But what if thing became even worse? What if someone promised you something, and based on his or her promise, you promised someone else something. Then, when the original promise fell through, what you promised fell through as well. Now to those whom you made a promise, you seem to be untrustworthy, even though it was partially out of your control. Sort of gets you upset just to think about it.

In our passage today, we see God made a promise to Jacob. God promised to help, keep, and be with Jacob until He, God, had finished the work He planned for him. Furthermore, as we study the rest of the Bible, we find God kept His Word to Jacob. In fact, we find that God always keeps all His promises.

Wouldn’t it be nice if God would whisper something like this in your ear? A promise to finish everything He has planned for you in your life. Life might be easier to live if we only knew God was going to finish in us what he started. I have some great news for you. In the New Testament, we find God does say exactly that. Philippians 1:6, says, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Live your life today knowing God is working in and through you. Today God wants to use you to complete a part of His overall plan for this world. You are a very big and vital part of it. If God has become the Lord of your life, He has begun a good work in you. His Word says He will finish that work. That is a promise.

JANUARY 14, 2021 – Become As A Child

Become As A Child

JANUARY 14, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Matthew 18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Oh, to be a child again. To play, laugh, run, jump, and seemingly not have even one care in this world. Our biggest fear as a child was that our toys might break, or that our friends could not play today. Oh, to be a child again.

Some read today’s verse and wonder “Do I have to become like a child to be saved?” or, “Must I first need the faith of a child to be saved?” You might be saying to yourself “I just cannot do it.”

Well, you are right. You cannot, and furthermore the verse does not say you need to. It says, “Except ye be converted, and become as little children.” People often read this verse, then in their minds they flip things around an get things backwards. Jesus was saying we need to be converted first. To convert means to change someone’s actions and beliefs, or to join the other side. God is simply saying turn to Him and away from your sin. It is the awareness of, and a belief in Christ that brings about a change of heart required for salvation. Then when you trust in Christ as your Saviour, He will restore in you that childlike faith to trust Him even more.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today, with this reminder of having that childlike faith restored in us, we should run and jump in God’s open and loving arms. Trusting the rest of our day, our week, yes even our life to Him.

Honest Pay For An Honest Day!

JANUARY 13, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In an article I read some time ago they wrote about a man who had won a large amount of money from the lottery. His quoted comments in this article if they were accurate, said he thanked God for helping him pick the right numbers and was giving a lot of the money to his church.

Several people commented, “Oh how I wish it was our church.” Now I know they meant that in an innocent and loving way. Yet we must consider how this money was obtained. Did he not get all this money by gambling? Did not thousands upon thousands of people who really needed their money have to lose for him to become rich? People, who in many cases bet their rent money or let their children go hungry because of their addiction to gambling. Do you think for one-minute God really had anything to do with that? I am speaking of the one true real God who said in Proverbs 13:11 “Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished.” Vanity means emptiness, or “like a breath,” nothing there. The man who won the lottery got his money from doing nothing to earn it. It would be interesting to see what he did with that money over the upcoming years. Studies have shown that most lottery winners find themselves right back where they began in a few years, as they have squandered or lost all they won.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we look at the wealth of the world, the idea of gambling becomes enticing to say the least. Especially knowing we could use the money for so many great things for the Lord. However, it would be better to wait upon the Lord, His timing, and His plan, than to cave into the vices of sin and of man. We instead should be more like the second part of today’s verse which says, “but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.” Let’s just get ours honestly, shall we?
