Deadbeats And Deceivers
August 16, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 20:13-15
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread. It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth. There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Love not sleep, and love not deceit. There are two groups of people spoken of in Prov. 20:13-15, both of whom we should avoid. Yet the deadbeat and devious person are not the same.

The Deadbeat is just looking for another place to flop. They are lazy, and all they care about is having no responsibilities. Give them a little time, and they will do nothing constructive with it.

A devious person is really just the opposite. They would much rather cause some sort of trouble than sleep. My dad used to say this kind of person would rather cause trouble than eat, and it is true. You may know someone like this. It seems if there is trouble around, you will always find them there or heading there. They know the latest gossip and usually make up what they don’t know. They are the last person in the world to whom you should tell a secret. They are the person who always seem to try to fool people. The one who, when you catch them in a lie, just laughs and says something like, “Oh, I was just kidding.”

While the deadbeat is never busy with anything and someone to avoid, the devious person is always busy with the wrong things and should also be avoided.

There is a third group of people alluded to here as well. They are those people who understand that the wisdom and knowledge obtained from God are more valuable than anything this world can offer. We need to be like them. We should be up and busy, allowing God to pour wisdom into our lives, all the while encouraging the deadbeats and devious folks to come and get to know Christ.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

It may look like fun on the other side of what’s right. You might see a happy-go-lucky person who appears to be having all the fun. However, the end result is always destruction. They end up destroying themselves, and often many who follow them. Ultimately, they find themselves alone and lonely. Choose what’s right; choose Christ.

What will you do with this wonderful day
God has granted you?

Run And Hide, Here They Come
August 15, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 20:9-12
Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD. Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Now, let’s be honest. There are people whom, when you see them coming, you try to avoid. It could be for various reasons, such as owing them money or dealing with bad breath, among other things.

In life, people couldn’t care less about what you say about yourself if your words don’t align with your actions. Your words and your life need to be in harmony; otherwise, your words become meaningless. If you’re genuinely doing things for the Lord, then “I” should fade into the background, and everything should revolve around Him.

Our verses today emphasize that even a child is known by their actions. People are known for something, either for what they do or for what they claim to do. God created both the “hearing ear and the seeing eye,” and both are equally important, both should bring glory to Him. However, I haven’t come across any scripture stating that God created any of us to be the “BOASTING I.”

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

All that being said, it is not wrong, from time to time, to share with others the blessings in our lives. The achievements of our children, our family, and our friends are often some of the things we should desire to share with others. However, it is wise to leave the bragging about ourselves to others. God, who created us, gave us two ears and one mouth. What we all need to remember is to listen twice as much as we speak.

Do people run when they see you coming?

How Can I Help YOU!
August 14, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 20:5-8
Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

We live in a “ME FIRST” world today. “What’s in it for ME?” That is the question on everyone’s mind.

However, if we can find a way to shift our focus away from ourselves and keep our eyes on our Saviour, we will often discover there is a positive answer, even in the midst of our greatest difficulties. Even if there is no financial or earthly reward of any kind, there will be a heavenly reward if your aim is to serve the Lord.

But, if we look to serve the “ME FIRST” inside us, then life’s situations will always appear bleak. You will find yourself saying things like, “Oh, poor ME,” “Look what they have done to ME,” “Nobody ever likes ME,” and “What’s in it for ME.”

The Bible tells us we should not be seeking answers to “What’s in it for ME.” In fact, it teaches just the opposite. We should be asking, “What’s in it for them?” Not what we can get, but what we can give. How can we serve? How can we help? What can we do to make the Christian life better for another? Is it possible that we could help:

●  A child looking for guidance and leadership?
●  An adult who has stumbled in their faith?
●  A lost person who desperately needs someone to lead and guide them to Christ?

Today’s verses ask a question that is still true today. “A FAITHFUL Man… who can find?” Is there someone who will commit their ways to the Lord and follow Him? Not just in the good and fun times but all the time. Could that person be you?.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

It’s not about our goodness, our talents, our needs, or even our wants. It’s about serving Jesus Christ. No matter what trials we face, they are not as daunting as dying on a cross, which is what He did for us.

So, what challenges are you currently confronting
that can compare to that?
And what actions are you taking for Him?

Hang Up The Six-Shooters
August 13, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 20:1-4
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul. It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling. The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“Meet me in the street at high noon.” Oh, how many times have we heard this line in our favorite westerns? The bad guy calls the good guy out to the street. They face each other, gun hands poised over their trusty six-shooters. People are running everywhere. Women are getting the children off the streets. Now the stare-down begins, and in just a split second… BANG… and someone falls to the ground. After a few parting words by the mortally wounded, their eyes close, and someone begins to cry for the loss of life.

Did all of that have to happen? The tough person today will say, “YES,” you have to defend your honor. You must go out and stand up for what’s right.

However, the Bible says, “NO.” In fact, Prov. 20:3 says it’s honourable for a man to cease from strife or conflict. The verse goes on to say, “every FOOL will be meddling.” According to God’s law, the one who made the challenge should be locked up for attempting to destroy God’s creation. Both physical and spiritual destruction are wrong according to the Word of God. Prov. 11:9 says, “An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour:” Defaming someone’s character is the same as destroying the man. The Bible calls it sin.

God says, “Vengeance is mine.” We don’t have to seek revenge or prove ourselves to anyone. Our task is to walk with the Lord, allowing Him to defend what is His. It might not be as exciting as a classic Western movie, but it leads to a more peaceful and fulfilling reality in life.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Let’s put away foolish things. Meddling benefits no one, including you. We are meant to exhort one another, not extort from one another. In other words, let’s support each other through life and not tear one another down. It’s time to set aside those six-shooters, partner, and spend more time in prayer.

Are you still ready to fight,
or will you to let God handle your affairs?
