Are You A Good Soldier?
December 8, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

2 Timothy 2:4
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

A Soldier of the Cross. This is what we as Christians often refer to ourselves as. Several times in the scripture, it portrays how we should be as soldiers ready for battle. Always ready to serve and defend that which we claim to love and swear allegiance to.

So today, let’s take a little soldier test. Ready? ATTENTION! Now, soldier, how long are you to remain at attention? Is it until you see something go by that catches your eye, and you want to follow it for a while? No, that is not a good soldier. Maybe you should remain at attention until you get tired and want to be at ease. No, that is not a good soldier either. How about when it gets dark, and the commander leaves and goes inside? If they cannot see you, you must be able to fall out at ease, right? No, that is also not a good soldier. When can a soldier be at ease? It is when the person who called them to attention or a higher-ranking officer than them says, “at ease.” Not one moment before. Anything less is insubordination and will not be tolerated. A good soldier will be obedient, even when it does not seem to make sense.

When did God become your Commander-in-Chief? It was at the moment of salvation when you enlisted in His army. There is not one officer anywhere higher than He is. So, if He says run, you run. If He says walk, you walk. If He says to stand in one place, you stand in one place. Whatever He says, that is exactly what you must do. Until He one day says, “At ease. Come home, my child, and rest.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

So, how did you do? Are you a great soldier? A good Soldier? An all-right soldier? Or are you possibly absent without leave? Is your life entangled with the cares of this world? We need to keep our focus on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Therefore, Christian Soldier…ATTENTION… ON HIM!

Does God consider you a Good Soldier?

What’s In A Name?
December 6 & 7, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 124:8
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

What’s in a name? Does it make or change what or who a person is? Can it really make a difference? In some people, the idea of what their name portrays makes such a huge difference that they will go out and change it to something else.

A name does convey identity. My first name was taken from my mother’s adopted father. My middle name was taken from my father’s dad. They had enough respect for their parents to want to continue their names by giving them to someone else. My father received his last name from his father, and so he passed down my last name to me. In this town, our last name is usually thought of as good. Why, because my father did those things that were right and kept our family name clean. I made some terrible choices at the beginning of my life, yet God saw fit to save me and change my life. Now our family name is once again thought of as decent and good. I can only pray that my children will respect our family name as they also pass it down to their children and their children’s children.

I also carry the name Christian. This name means Christ-like. This name was also given to me by my Heavenly Father. He has done everything to keep this name clean for all His children, but now He is depending upon me to be able to pass down that heritage. The name of the Lord meant a lot to the children of Israel. He was called the self-existent or eternal Lord. Jehovah. There is a lot in a name.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As people see you, what do they think about the name of Christ? Do they think friendly, kind, loving, and compassionate? Or do their thoughts go toward angry, spiteful, deceiving, and cruelty? You might be the only Jesus people see today. Hold up His name as a banner of honor. There is a lot to be said for that name.

What do people think of when they hear your name?

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

A Day To Worship
December 5, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Ezekiel 46:3
Likewise the people of the land shall worship at the door of this gate before the LORD in the sabbaths and in the new moons.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

I am a firm believer that people who say they love the Lord should want to be in the Lord’s House when it is open, and the body of Christ is there. For example, I love my wife. Wouldn’t it be crazy to just want a picture of her and not want to be where she is? Knowing the church is the body of Christ, it makes no sense to me for people not to want to be around the body of Christ if they truly love the Lord.

Whenever I preach on the subject of people being in God’s house on the Lord’s Day, referring to Sunday, it never fails that I hear someone say, “Every day is the Lord’s Day.” Which interpreted means, “I will go to church when I want to, and do not you or anyone else try to tell me when to go.” Another good one I hear is, “We are no longer under the law, we are under grace.” Interpreted, “I will do what I want.”

It is true; every day is the Lord’s Day. However, this has been true forever, not just today. It is also true that we are under grace, but there are some rules of life that we still need to follow. No one argues about the commandment “thou shalt not kill” because it is still a good rule by which to live our lives. God set up certain days to gather His church together and worship Him. In the Old Testament, it was the Sabbaths and other special Holy Days. In the New Testament, it is recorded that they meet on the first day of the week. The day the Lord arose from the tomb (John 20). It was the day the Disciples would come together to break bread (Acts 20). It is the day we are to lay up in store as we have prospered (1 Corinthians 16). A day set aside to worship our risen King. A day we call The LORD’S DAY.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God is a God of order. If there were no set day to go and worship together, then everyone would go at different times and on different days. What would become of the preaching of the gospel, the fellowship of the saints, the gathering to exhort one another? Start to prepare today to be in God’s house with God’s people for God’s purpose on the day set aside by God’s plan. See you in Church on Sunday.

What are your plans for this coming Lord’s Day?

What’s My Excuse?
December 4, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Philemon 10
I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

How often have we thought, “I cannot witness for Christ now because __________” (You fill in the blank. I know I have, with many excuses). It seems there is always a reason not to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

However, does it ever work the other way? You are just sitting around and thinking, “I sure wish there was someone around to talk about Jesus right about now.” If you ever thought this and meant it, probably someone showed up. God intends for us always to be willing, ready, and able to share the good news of our salvation.

Paul led a runaway slave by the name of Onesimus to the Lord while in jail. Paul could have said I am too preoccupied trying to think of how to get out of jail to think about someone else right now. Sadly, this is what many of us do all too often. What could happen if we all decided in the year to come, we would be more like Paul whenever possible? In our worst times, let’s think of others. We might be surprised, it might make what we thought was our worst time, not so bad after all.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you go through your day today, start to think about whom I can share Christ with, and how I will do it. Then, JUST DO IT! It will surprise them and you. It will also make your day a lot more exciting.

Who do you have in mind to surprise today?

I Want It Now
December 3, 2025

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 3:29-30
Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

THOUGHTS ON GOD’S WORD:

Blood boils, and tempers flare when someone else gets a promotion you have waited for and believe so much you deserve. You work, you try, you plan someday to have this job, then someone else just marches in from nowhere and takes it. For some reason, we are just as mad at the person who got the promotion as we are at the one who made what we see as a bad decision to put them there. Mad because someone else got ahead before we did. It may be possible, and even probable, that the person was not trying to hurt you. They were simply trying to get ahead in life the same as you. However, this does not seem to matter now, right? You say to yourself, “I am going to be mad at this person anyway.” We get the attitude “I will just stay mad at them and that will teach them to take my job!”

Sound silly? It is. However, it happens all the time. Getting angry with someone and not knowing why is wrong. Yet many people find themselves with pent-up anger at someone who had no control over a situation. It may also be someone they do not know. Why do people get this way? Their answer most likely will be something like, “I do not know, I just FEEL that way.” It makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

The Bible tells us not to be this way toward others, nor plan to hurt someone without cause. It is not right. It is not Biblical. It is not godly. Not to mention, most other people do not like people with this type of attitude. The fact is, others look at people who act this way as small, petty, self-centered, and negative. Sadly, they find themselves alone, unpopular, and often passed up for future advancements because of their bad attitude.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When God opens the door for another (especially a brother or a sister in the Lord), do not reject them. Instead, rejoice with them, help, and encourage them. Who knows, they might be your leader someday and be able to help promote you to where God wants you to be. Even if that never happens, you receive a blessing just by obeying God’s Word. He is your leader, and He will be promoting you someday.

If you encourage someone who has just received a promotion over you,
how do you think that makes God look through you in their eyes?
