DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 27:7-10
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place. Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel. Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“I am so full I cannot eat another thing.” Everyone has heard, or probably said this before. You have had so much that if you eat just one more bite, you think you will explode. Nothing even looks good anymore. In today’s passage, Solomon is using this idea to convey some important truths to his son.

The full soul, the affluent, those who have need of little in this world, will often also be wasteful. Having so much, they forget what it was like to hunger, thirst, or need help in any way. Sadly, they also often forget what it is like to be grateful for the love and help of a friend. However, to the hungry, the needy, or those who from time to time still need a friend to help, every little thing seems to be a great gesture of love. Even the counsel of a good friend is seen as an act of genuine care.

As a result, those who have so much of this world’s material goods will commonly not see the need for God, salvation, Jesus, or the church. They begin to trust that they have all they will ever need in their earthly possession. While the less affluent of this world often look to the hand of God to supply their every need and rejoice in His smallest of blessings.

The wealthy in this world may have all their earthly possessions, but they frequently miss out on the blessings of God as He showers His love on those who genuinely believe.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Are all wealthy people like that? Well, think for a moment about who wrote this. It was Solomon, one of the wealthiest men to walk the earth. It truly is not a matter of our pocketbook; it is all about our heart. We must never forget that, no matter how much or how little we have, God sustains and supplies our every need
.

Are you truly weathy in ways
the world may not see?

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 27:4-6
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? Open rebuke is better than secret love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

There is nothing worse for a person’s emotions than to find out that someone they thought of as a friend, co-laborer, and helper has turned on them and is telling damaging things about them to others. God sometimes refers to such people as gossips, backbiters, or slanderers.

Open rebuke or faithful wounds given in love toward someone should be taken in love. If someone comes to help you by sharing an area they may see in your life as harmful to your testimony or walk with God, and they do it in a loving manner, we ought to accept it and see what God’s Word says about the matter.

On the other hand, if a person comes and tells you how much they love you but will not tell you if they see trouble in your life, can they truly say they love you? The answer is NO! Even worse, if they tell you they love you and then gossip about your faults behind your back, can they say they love you? NO!

God’s Word never hides the truth. It is there for us to read and understand. God never talks behind our back or lets us think it is okay to sin. However, He always says so in the context of love. Always wanting the best for us, He tries to warn us of the cost of sin. Can He say He really loves us? YES!

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Avoid false love, as you do not need the aggravation in your life. Draw close to true love. God’s best love was displayed by sending His Son Jesus to live and die for us. The truth might hurt at times, but the truth wrapped in love will be the best thing you can find. Jesus is the Way, the TRUTH, and Life.

Do you have a real friend who will
tell you the truth in a loving manner?

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 27:1-3
Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips. A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“Let me see, what do I have on my calendar for tomorrow?” Sound familiar?

We all make plans for the future. Organization is a great tool. God even encourages us to do things in an orderly fashion. However, sometimes we put things off and plan to do them on another day, which should be taken care of today. Things such as telling a friend about Christ or showing a Christian brother or sister that we love them. Matters of encouragement to our children and spouse, letting them know they are first in our life. We should be doing these things now rather than later.

The most important of all things you should never put off until tomorrow is knowing for sure where you will spend eternity. Proverbs 27:1 tells us why it is so important to do this today. That is because we really do not know what tomorrow holds in store. Only God knows that, and He is not telling.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Do you know Christ as your Lord and Saviour? Romans 10:9-11 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”

A simple prayer of confession from your heart to God is all He is waiting to hear. Something like, “God please forgive me of my sin. I believe Jesus died for my sin, rose, and is coming again. I believe His blood paid the price for all my sin, Amen.”

When should you pray this prayer? Right now, trust Him today. When you do, would you let us know? Our e-mail is LIHW@LIHWMinistries.org. Call a Bible Believing Church in your area and ask the Pastor to help you in your newfound life in Jesus Christ. They will rejoice with you in your decisions to walk in a new life with Christ TODAY.”

Are you putting off something that is important for today?

Do You Smell Like Smoke?
November 1, 2024

DAILY PROVERB:

Proverbs 26:23-28
Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

How many of you are campers? You just love to get out there, set up a tent, or drag your RV or trailer out and go camping. I will have to admit that my idea of roughing it is being booked into the sixth floor of a motel and finding out that the elevator has quit working. The great outdoorsman I am not.

I do love to sit by a campfire and visit with others, though. I have one problem. Whenever I get near enough to the fire to melt chocolate and marshmallows together on a graham cracker, no matter how hard I try to find which way the wind is blowing, I always seem to attract the smoke from the fire. If I move, it follows me. My eyes burn and water, and I cannot see a thing. What started out sounding like fun ends up more like torture.

Our verses today give several comparisons of what being around a deceitful person is like. Verse 23 says, “Like a potsherd covered with silver dross.” A potsherd is a cheap clay or earthen vessel. The silver dross is the scum that forms on the surface of the molten metal pot. It may appear silver, but it is as phony and worthless as the pot it covers. Verse 25 says, “When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.” Simply stated, there are more lies where that one came from. However, as I come to verse 27, it reminded me of the smoke that follows you at a campfire when it said, “he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.” Just like the smoke that follows you, burns your eyes, and causes discomfort, so is a friendship with a dishonest person. They are just not a joy to be around. You can never be sure of anything they say. Most others know of their lying ways and do not want to be around them either. It is just like that smoke; you just do not want to be there.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Friendships are important. However, a bad friendship can do more harm than good. It becomes like the stone rolling back to crush us, or the smoke that follows us around. Pray for them, love them, witness to them, but do not hang around them. If you hang around the fire too long, soon you smell like smoke
.

Where would be a good place to begin to form good friendships?
