Who Can Do It ALL?

NOVEMBER 08, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 108:12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Do you need a hand fixing a car? Call someone who is licensed in Auto Mechanics, and they usually can fix you right up. Is there a room that needs painting? Call over a couple of friends and they can probably help you paint a room in no time. Having problems with the old pipes in your house clogging up? Call a plumber, they will snake out those old pipes or replace them with little problem. Is there a need for a broken heart to be mended? Need to be freed from an addiction? Need all the terrible things you have done in your life cleared away? Do you need your conscience to be clear? Have you found a need in your heart to be sure that when you die you will go to Heaven? There is no man on earth who can do these things.

People can point you toward God, remind you of the promises He has made and even join with you in prayer about something. However only God can mend a heart, break addictions grasp, cleanse us from our sin, and help us to know where we stand now, and in eternity. ONLY GOD.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Only God can fix our troubles. Maybe you have a situation that needs attention today. Let me point you to Him. He can and will listen and give you real help. Oh yes, by the way, all those other things I mentioned which man would help you with, (car, painting, plumbing,) God gave them the ability to do those things too. So really, God and God alone can fix every situation… even your car.

Who Are You Comfortable Around?

NOVEMBER 6 & 7, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Romans 1:12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…. And they’re always glad you came…” These were the first two lines of the opening song of a TV sitcom in the mid 80’s to 90’s. It centered around a local bar people seemed to gather at because everyone there made them feel welcome. These people just wanted to be around other people who were just like them.

Nothing has really changed. People just want to feel accepted and loved. They want to know there are others like them, with hurts and trials in life. They want someone to care about what happens to them. People want to be around other people who are just like them.

Why did Paul say he wanted to be around the church to which he was writing? He tells us, it was to find COMFORT in the company of people, who believed like him. He was being cursed at, mistreated, imprisoned, laughed at, and rejected. He longed to be around someone who understood. Does that sound familiar? The world today will cuss at you, mistreat you, imprison you with all types of vices and habits, then laugh when you are hooked, and reject you for what you have become. Therefore, I like church. Those churchy people know how I feel. They too have been laughed at for their faith this week. Just like me they have felt they did not fit in somewhere because of what was going on there. These people understand me and love me for who I am, and who God is through me. Because they love me this way, I cannot help but love them back in the same way they love me. I love to go to church where they all know my name. It is wonderful to be welcomed by people each week who are just glad you came. I like to be around people like me.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How about you? Where do you feel you fit best? Look around at the crowd you hang out with most often. What is the heart of your relationship with these people? Whatever you see in them, that is you! In the world, there are gangs, clubs, and social groups to try to help you fill this void. My friends are eternal. I will always get to hang out with them. What a comfort to know our Christian relationship is based on a REAL ETERNAL LOVE!

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

I Finally Know It All

NOVEMBER 05, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 5:6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Read this story as if you were saying these things. Are you ready? OK, let’s begin: Ok, now that I am ___ (You fill in the age, and be honest,) I finally understand life. I did not really understand it a year ago, three years ago, or five years ago. However, today I am sure I have it all figured out. Look at all the things I have learned from life. Those poor people who are not my age yet, when will they ever learn? Then there are all those people who are older than I am trying to tell me that this or that will not work. Where do those older people get off anyway? Older people have no idea what is happening today in today’s social and economic market. They are so old fashioned.

Sound familiar? At several points in life, we think we have life finally mastered. If you are honest, you have probably felt this way a time or two as well. Then just when you finally think you have it worked out, the bottom falls out of your dream or idea. Still, life continues to move along even though things seem to have changed for absolutely no reason. I saw a poster once with a frog sitting on a lily pad looking at another lily pad a way off and the caption read, “Just when you think you can make ends meet, someone moves the ends!” Oh, how true it seems to be. Why must life be this way?

Well, one reason is, the world collectively does not love you. In fact, they really do not even like you. You are a person in their scheme of getting ahead. PROGRESS, not people is what the world seems to care about today. When you are no longer helping them make progress, you become expendable. Today we see this all too often. There is very little of what we might recognize as stability in today’s world. Nothing seems to be sure anymore. Nevertheless, one thing that is sure and never changes is God. He said He would never leave you nor forsake you. Why, it is not because He likes you, it is because He truly LOVES and cares very much for you.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Are you looking for stability in an ever-changing world? Let me invite you to look to someone who is never ever changing. Look to God, He and His love are out of this world.

Don’t Forget… Many Have…

NOVEMBER 04, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 106:21 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Often in the scripture we find Egypt used as a picture of the world around us. God brought the Children of Israel out of Egypt just as He takes His church out of the world today by salvation. God called the Children of Israel to be different from the rest of the world and their worldly beliefs as He has called today’s church to do the same. In the passage above, the Psalmist is clearly referring to the Jewish people. They were freed from their bondage in Egypt by the miracles God had done in the presence of the Pharaoh. This verse is referring to how God had freed them and provided for them in their journey. He had also prepared a land for them and turned it over to them when they arrived. Then He blessed the land and filled it with everything they could possibly need. However, all the things that God had given to them seemed to clutter their view of God. Over time, they had forgotten Him.

I do know this verse is about a time centuries ago. Nevertheless, the living Word of God is also proving Satan never changes his tactics. He is still using the same old tricks. People just forget. God brings a person out of sin, saves them, frees them from the bondage which sin once had on them, and gives them a brand-new home in heaven. God begins to bless their new life. The next thing you know, the things God has given them begins to cloud the view they once had of God. They forget from whom they received everything. Even a Nation that was once, “UNDER GOD…” now is UNDER ATTACK. The freedoms given by God are being taken away by Satan and the world. We all must remember who gave us this great land we love.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

From where did God bring you? Besides saving you from a place called hell and making a home for you in heaven someday, think of His daily blessing you enjoy. Think for a moment and remember God’s goodness to you. Then thank Him for all His blessing on you today. Thank Him for our country. Now show Him you care. He can do great things again if we will do our part and trust Him.

See No Evil?

NOVEMBER 03, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Job 31:1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

What have you promised your body lately?

Did you promise yourself if you would behave really good this week, not eat too much, and exercised a little that this weekend you could have a double chocolate fudge brownie with hot fudge on top, ground pecans with whip cream and a cherry on top? Did you promise your arms and legs a little R&R after working extra hard? Whether we think about it or not, we do make promises to ourselves. Some promises are better than others are.

However, what promises have you made to your eyes? What have you promised them besides maybe a little rest? Have you promised your eyes you would not look on anything sinful on purpose? Do you dare make yourself that promise? Could it be you are afraid perhaps this may cut into your TV programs? Would such a promise maybe change the magazines you read? Might it stop you from going somewhere you wanted to go? Can you make a covenant with your eyes, not to look at sin as satisfying, not to view filth as fine, and not to see worldliness as wisdom? Can you make this covenant… this promise… this contract… with your eyes?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If you are a Christian, you somewhat already made this covenant when you gave yourself to God. See God detests looking at sin. It is sickening to Him when He sees it. Sin cost Him His only Son. Sin made Him watch as His Son Jesus was beaten, spit on, slapped, and crucified. God hates sin. When you look at sinful things in this world as a believer with the Holy Spirit in you, you take God with you. What did you make God through your eyes watch yesterday? What will you cause Him to look upon today?
