Somewhat Childish

APRIL 24 & 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

1 Corinthians 13:11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Imagine with me for a minute, you walk into a room and in the center of that room you see someone playing with Barbie dolls and having a pretend tea party with an imaginary friend. In the next room, you see someone playing with GI Joe army men and plastic tanks and you hear them going, “boom, boom,” pretending to blow up a cereal box fortress. Sounds like a couple of children having a blast. However, what if I told you the people playing in the rooms were 45 years old and this is all they ever do? You would probably think, Oh, how sad, they must have grown up physically but never grown up psychologically.

Now think on the life of today’s so-called mature Christians. Are they still playing with their childish ways? Some people do not want to grow up spiritually. They received salvation and said that is enough for me. However, this is not enough. There is so much more as we grow in the Lord. We should be going to church at every opportunity to learn more and more about Our Christian Walk, Jesus, God, The Holy Spirit, Evangelism, Soul Winning, Bible Study, Teaching Others, Serving God, Worship, and this is the small list. If you have all those mastered, then you are doing great. However, if you are like me, I learn more and more every day. As we look at people who have been saved for 20 and 30 years who have not grown, what should we be saying? That is OK, that is their choice in life. Or, oh how sad, they never grew up spiritually. Immature Christians are missing so much more of what God has to offer.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Psalm 119:18 says, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” I pray this almost every time I open the pages of God’s Word. You know what? If I am genuinely looking for Him to show me something, He does open my spiritual eyes and teaches me something new wonderful!

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

How Shall We Describe You?

APRIL 23, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 23:29-30 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

People will try to defend every imaginable sin and use the Bible to do so. I have heard otherwise reasonable people try to defend the drinking of alcohol saying, “the Bible talks about drinking, so it must be ok.” Well, that is true; the Bible does talk of drinking. It also talks of crucifixions, are you interested in one of those? It speaks of being whipped until left for dead, anyone up for that. Just because the Bible speaks on a subject does not mean it endorses the use of it unless it says so, or the scripture in its entirety says so.

Some have said, “Well I am not getting drunk when I drink.” One might as then why do you drink? The common answer is, “I do it to be sociable.” You mean to tell me the crowd you run with would not find you sociable if you did not have a drink in your hand. Maybe you are hanging with the wrong crowd then.

The Bible is clear here on what it thinks of drinking. It paints a perfectly accurate picture. It says look not at the wine, “when it moveth itself aright.” Do you know when that happens? It is when juice is fermenting. It is when it is purposefully turned into an alcoholic drink by adding something to it.

Next, how does the Bible describe people who will not heed the warning? It says they who are troubled, sorry, problem ridden, babbling, falling down, and drunk. Hum, are these the words you want people to use when they describe you? I PRAY NOT!

Alcohol is a killer both physically and spiritually. It ruins homes, careers, lives, and testimonies. If you want to be sociable with a real friend, be sociable with God and His Word first.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Finding scripture to justify sin is hard. You must be willing to turn a blind eye to the rest of the book to do so. Let’s not try to make sin ok. Instead, let us make our life ok in God’s eyes.

God Loves To Hear You Sing

APRIL 22, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Music is a wonderful gift from God. It seems everyone likes some form of music. It can also be used for so many different things. It can calm a person with its soft melodies. It is used in battle, loudly blaring 24 hours a day to keep people from sleep and drive them crazy. A trumpet will sound a tune to call people to battle or to wake them from sleep. In church, it is used to sing praises to God. Music is truly a gift from God. How then can we use it for His good? The Bible tells us to, “make a joyful noise to the rock of our Salvation.” It says we are to, “sing unto the Lord.” God loves to hear us sing. Even if we do not have the voice of an angel, God loves to hear us when praises to Him come floating off our lips and from our heart. I believe it does at least three things.

    1. I believe God loves the sound of our voice. Could you imagine hearing your child in the back yard singing for everyone to hear, “O how wonderful is my mom, she loves me like no other, O how special is my dad, God could not make another.” Wouldn’t that melt your heart? Would it matter to you if they were singing on key or not? No way! I believe God loves to hear us sing His praises in the same way.

  2. It lifts your spirits to sing the praise of your God. It will make your day so much brighter as you sing of our Wonderful Redeemer. As you sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus, the joy from the Lord will overshadow you.

  3. I like this one. I believe it drives Satan MAD!!!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Find a place all to yourself today and sing, What a Mighty God We Serve, or Amazing Grace, or Jesus Loves Me. Whatever comes to your heart, Just Sing.

God Never Forces, He Always Invites

APRIL 21, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

You might think that God, being God, would make someone worship Him, or, that He might make people have a desire to attend church if that is what folks are supposed to do. That He would make people tithe if it is right or make them read their bible if it has so much good stuff in there. One might even believe the Lord would make them pray if He really wants to hear from them and make them go to Sunday School if they really need more teaching. Additionally, He would force them to find a place of service for Him if He really needs their help and make them come again on Wednesday Night if that is the correct way to worship God. Many are sitting back waiting for a Holy kick in the pants before they will do anything. Then when it does not come, they say something silly like, “it must not be God’s will for me to do any of those things.”

Fact is God will not force anything on you. You have the liberty to choose everything in life you may or may not want. Choose to stay home because of people you cannot seem to get along with at church. Choose not to serve God because you have filled your life with so many other things that you have crowded out time for God. Choose to keep all your money because you have bought so many things that your bills now control your life. Choose to watch the latest sit-com or movie instead of reading God’s Word. Choose to sleep a little longer instead of taking a few minutes and speaking with He whom you call Lord. God never forces, He just invites. It really is all your choice. Weather to bless you for your choices is still however in the hands of a Righteous and Almighty God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” So, what choices have you decided on today?

Who Can Really Help?

APRIL 20, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

1 Corinthians 6:5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

If you ever find yourself in the uncomfortable position of trying to help someone by pointing out a sinful area of their life, or you ever try to resolve a church dispute, you will have your hands full. People will squirm, twist, and even yell at you as you begin to point to their faults. Then when they have heard as much as they believe they can stand, they become Bible theologians. Usually, you will hear something such as, “you call yourself a Christian?” Another popular one is, “the Bible says Judge Not!” Well, it does say judge not several times, but you must read the rest of it to know what the passages really mean. Usually it is talking of someone who for the sake enjoyment or self-elevation loves to point out people’s sin. If that is what is happening to them, they are right. However, if you are truly trying to help then, most likely that is not what is going on.

If you are ever approached by a brother or sister in Christ, someone who you know really loves you, and with the truth of the scripture they address an area which the Holy Spirit might be doing some work on anyway, do not take it out on the messenger. If we who claim to have love, one towards another cannot be of help to each other, allowing us to grow in the body of Christ… then who is going to help.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Before we ever try to help another person, we must ask for help ourselves. God is the one and only true counselor of the heart. All we can and should be doing is really pointing others and ourselves back to Him.
