Daily Devotions – Moments That Matter

JULY 7, 2026—Behold, I Am Here, Lord

Behold, I Am Here, Lord

Acts 9:10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.

Acts 9 recounts the wonderful account of Saul’s Damascus Road conversion to Christ. Saul, who is also the Apostle Paul, began many New Testament churches; authored the majority of the New Testament by the guidance of the Holy Spirit; and did some mighty, wonderful things for God. We might get caught up in that story and miss another great man as well.

Ananias was a devout man of God. Not an apostle, not a pastor, nor a prophet. Just a faithful man, who, when called upon by God, listened and responded with, “Behold, I am here, Lord.” God didn’t call all of us to be the next great preacher or teacher. However, He does expect us to be ready when He calls.

A Look Toward The Future

Luke 7:28For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

John the Baptist was by far one of the greatest prophets who ever lived. Maybe not in the magnitude of the prophecies he shared, but in the clarity of his purpose in foretelling Jesus’ coming and his direct connection with Christ, he by far outshines them all.

Yet, Jesus said the least of those in the kingdom of God would be greater than John. How could this be? Well, as close as John was to Jesus, a believer today is just as close with the Holy Spirit residing in them. As to the clarity of Christ’s purpose, we now have the entire Word of God to see the beginning and the end, which John did not have. We can say with certainty, as John said back then. “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Trust Him

Mark 12:43-44 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Jesus made a point of calling His disciples over to see what this widow had done. Some take this as a financial lesson. That somehow, we are to give all our money to the church. However, the point of His lesson had little to do with the amount of money she gave.

As she gave all she had, when others gave a little of their leftover wealth, Jesus wanted the disciples to see a deeper message than that of the money. His point was her faith. She trusted that God would take care of her. Earlier in verse 30, Jesus told a man to love God with everything he has. His heart, mind, soul, and body. That person did not get what Jesus meant, but this widow woman did. Jesus wanted the disciples to see real faith.
