Zoned Out

December 11
Daily Reading – Amos 1-3 / Revelation 2

GOD SAID:

Amos 3:10 For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

What does it mean to be “Zoned Out?” According to www.thefreedictionary.com it is to “Stop paying attention, dissociate oneself from a situation. Also, engage in a mindless activity.” For example; children will often become “Zoned Out,” sitting in front of a TV. Teens become “Zoned Out,” on their cell phones or tablets. Adults, mostly men, Zone Out everything else while watching football. People just are so focused on one thing, that if something is not within that zone of attention, it is zoned out.

In Amos 3:10, God says through His prophet; “For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.” Simply put, they had sinned so often, and with such regularity that it has become the norm. They don’t even realize they’re sinning any longer. In today’s language we might say, they have Zoned Out righteousness. Today, it seems to be a lot the same. There was a time, when we knew the Bible said certain things were sinful. Adultery, and fornication are now considered consensual adult relationships. Abortion, was the taking of an unborn life, which only God had the right to do. Today it’s considered freedom of choice. Homosexuality was seen in scripture as an abomination to God. Today, the world not only embraces this sin, but legally defends what they call a lifestyle. It appears, we “ZONED OUT” on self, and “ZONED OUT” God.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Rev. 3:17 warns; “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:” Our focus must be on God, and not on us.

Have we Zoned Out God?

Zion

December 10
Daily Reading – Joel / Revelation 1

GOD SAID:

Joel 3:17 So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

There’s an old hymn written by David Williamson entitled “Marching to Zion.” In the chorus it says; “We’re marching to Zion, beautiful, beautiful Zion; We’re marching upward to Zion; the beautiful city of God” In the book of Joel, the prophet uses the name “Zion,” seven times, concluding in Joel 3:21, where it says; “…for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.” Zion is also known as “The City of David,” and “Jerusalem.” Today, this city is not pure by any stretch of the imagination. There’s a Muslim Mosque there, and a continuous battle over who should have control of this property. Yet in 2 Samuel 7:16 God said of David’s reign in Jerusalem; “And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” How will that be true? Jesus! Jesus was born into the line of David, and He will sit on the throne in Zion as the final Eternal King. Before He does, we see that Zion must be cleansed. Joel 2:1 & 15 says a warning is given of this cleansing. Joel 2:32 says that; “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered:…” Then, in Joel 3:17 it says that; “no strangers,” or no sinful people will pass through Zion anymore. When Jesus takes the throne, sin is cast out.

Jesus is also to sit on the throne of our heart today. When we give our life to Him, a cleansing took place. Sin is cast out, and Jesus is King.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

I love 2 Corinthians 5:17 which explains this so well. It says; “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When did things become new in you?

Is your heart like ZION for Christ?

Zero Complaints

December 9
Daily Reading – Hosea 10-14 / Jude

GOD SAID:

Hosea 13:5-6 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought. According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

In church we sing; “God is so good, He’s so good to me.” I think most of us should change the words to; “God is TOO good, He’s TOO good to me.” If we’re honest ,God is way TOO good to us. God graciously supplied for our forefathers so well because of their committed faith in Him. Now, people living off past grace, no longer feel a need to worship or rely on God. Just as God was good to Israel and they forgot Him, so it is today. The desire for individual happiness has caused many to forget that the giver of all things, God, is to be our joy, not the gift that God gives.

We’ve not known what it’s like to get down on our knees and beg God for daily bread. Instead, we ask for an income to take care of us forever. Even then we’re not satisfied. There’s always one more thing we think God should provide if He loves us. It’s like when children are given a bag full of candy in school. The child wants to eat it all. You let them select a few pieces, but put the rest away. The candy is theirs, yet a wise parent won’t let a child eat until they’re stuffed. First, all that candy would make them sick. Also, tomorrow when other children still have candy, this child will have none and be sad. Does the child think of that? No! All they can see is the candy and they want it. So the grown up has to do what’s right. God in like manner has already been too good to us. Then, in His wisdom, knows when we have had enough. He’s watching out for us as a good parent does.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

God doesn’t have to let us have anything, but He does. If we really want to help one another, let’s help each other have a good outlook on God, His grace, and goodness toward us. We get treated way TOO good. We should have zero complaints.

Has God ever let you down?

Yet, Not With Our Heart

December 7 & 8
December 7 – Hosea 5-9 / 3 John
December 8 – NO Daily Reading

GOD SAID:

Hosea 7:14 And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

It seems to me that there is a misconception among people today as to how and why people are saved. Some believe that if they just get them to say a prayer, they’ll have eternal life. Others seem to think that somehow they can scare them out of hell, and they will be saved. The problem I believe we have today as a result of some of these teachings are churches, full of misguided people. They have been converted from hell and not repentant for their sin. Possibly others are feeling safe with the prayer they said to be their salvation, and yet have not given their life over to God. Many people come to God looking for a stamp of approval on the life they live now, instead of salvation. Others are simply looking for safety from hell, but not the Saviour. We must love God for who He is, not just what He does.

As we can see in the verse today, God has always wanted people to come to Him because they have given their heart to Him. Sadly, many loved the idea of what God can do for them, yet, not loved Him with their heart. God’s desire is that we would love him with our whole heart. Not that He might be their “good’s supplier,” truly loving Him for who He is. Then we realize that He’s not a “good’s supplier,” but He is the, “Good Supplier.” People need to humble their heart before a loving God and yield to Him in everything. Then, and only then the Bible says, He will direct our paths and supply all our needs.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Oh God, forgive us if we’ve caused someone to believe that the words of a prayer alone will save them. Forgive us if we’ve tried to scare people out of hell alone. Help us Lord to live so people will Love you for who you are

Do we love God for who He is, or just what he does?

Yearning For The Truth

December 6
Daily Reading – Hosea 1-4 / 2 John

GOD SAID:

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Today, there is the immediate access to more information than I believe at any other time in human history. It used to be that libraries were not in every city. Sometimes people would have to travel a great distance to just go into a library to look something up. The printed book was very costly and considered valuable to anyone who owned one. In contrast, today we simply speak our questions into the air, and some artificial inelegance device connected to our home, phone or computer will answer almost any question we ask. Books are being printed by the billions every year and are so plentiful that people don’t value them as before. Often they’re tossed in the trash when people are done with them. Yet with all this available today, biblical literacy is at an all time low. The Word has been twisted and re-written to suite different likes and dislikes. Some have claimed it to be no more than a book of stories and fables. People don’t know what to think.

In Hosea 4:6 God says; “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee,…” It wasn’t that the Word of God was not available back then. They had no excuse for not knowing what God was saying to them. He had been doing so through priests, and prophets all along. They simply rejected what God had to say. That rejection of the God’s wisdom is what destroyed them as a nation and personally.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

What’s our excuse? The Bible is available in written and audible form almost everywhere. Good churches proclaim His truths weekly. Yet, our nations, and people are being destroyed by rejecting God’s knowledge for us.

Will we wait until its too late
to yearn for His truth?
