The Scrapbook Of Our Mind

January 24, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 2:17-19 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

    “A picture is worth a thousand words.” You’ve heard that statement before. Why does it ring so true? Because if something is left to the imagination, the mind can do all sorts of things with it. However, when you see something there is little, if any, room for imagination. In fact, most everyone, whether they believe it or not, has a photographic memory. Close your eyes for a second and picture your car. See the color, the interior, the wheels, and if like mine, the few dents. Was there any problems seeing that in your mind? Probably not. Why, because it is very familiar to you.

    Our verses in Proverbs today tell us of the same problem. Once you have gone into the world of pornography and sexual sin, it’s almost impossible to ever get those pictures out of your mind. You are trapped with them for life. Can God forgive you? YES! Will God forgive you? If you truly repent, YES! Will you be haunted by those images, or an act for life? YES! Sadly many people are pulled into a life of pornographic, and sexual sin, and never come out again.

     In Roman 6:23 the Bible is very clear when it says; “the wages of sin is death.” If it stopped there, we would all be trouble for eternity. However, it doesn’t stop there. It goes on to say; “but the gift of God is eternal life.” Not a part-time, hope so salvation, eternal life. How can this be possible for someone who has sinned like this against a Holy God? It’s only possible, “through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Salvation and forgiveness are forever bound in the person, and blood of Jesus Christ.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

     Can you erase the pictures you’ve developed in your mind? NO. However, with the help of God, you can choose not to view them. God can help you change your desires. We can’t unload the pictures which are there. Nevertheless, we can sure be careful not to put anymore in the mental scrapbook of our mind.

Compared To What?

January 23, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 2:12-16 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

     How can you tell if a line is straight? To find out, you need to find a straight line, place it next to the line you are looking at, and see if they match up. How can you tell if something is level? You have to compare it to something you know is level. Either by using a tool called a level, or by measuring from another surface you know is level. How can you tell if a person is evil or good? To do so you must first find out what is good, then measure that person against what you know to be good.

     Jesus was once called good in Matthew 19:16. Jesus responded in verse 17 by saying; “…Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God…” Jesus pointed us to what must be our measurement of good, “God.” God gave us His Son Jesus, who is God in the flesh, for us to have a visible measurement. He also gave us the Bible so that we might know His heart. Therefore, for us to know what is good, we must measure it up next to what we know is good. That would be the Word of God, and Jesus.

     God is Holiness. Evil men shy away from holiness, as they like the shady side of things. Jesus is the Light of the world. Evil men prefer to work in the darkness, as they are not completely open and honest. Jesus came to help and save people. God loved us so much that He sent Jesus for just that reason.

     Froward means perverted, or turning aside from what’s right. Evil folks seem to like to see people fail. They like it when others stumble, or walk away from the right path. So today, we have given you measuring tools for good… Now Go Measure.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

  Some things never change. A straight line has always been a straight line, and level is still level. God has always been good. The Word of God is still true. How do we measure up?

Two Plates From Which To Choose

January 22, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 2:10-12 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

     Picture yourself walking into a room, and in the room were two plates of food. One plate is marked “healthy, nutritious.” However, it didn’t look so good. It wasn’t gross or smelly, but it didn’t look as good as the other plate. The other plate is marked “Poison.” Nevertheless, it was colorful and looked so good. You’re only allowed to have one plate, which will it be?

     Being smart enough to take the healthy plate, two things have happened. You not only get the vitamins and minerals you need for your body to grow and be healthy, you also avoid something that would have literally killed you.

     Wisdom and the world are much the same as these plates of food. As long as you are sitting back and looking at them, neither will do anything to you, or for you. However, eventually you’ll have to eat. Once wisdom enters your heart, and gets inside of you, you learn about the evils of this world. Once the respect for who God is seeps deep into your heart, you understand how sin hurts God, and you. Your desire for more food to strengthen you grows. It doesn’t look so plain anymore. You’ve come to love it because of the strength it gives you. The more you get, the stronger you get. Your decisions are now based on fact and wisdom, not dreams and lies. You start to see things as they are, and have no desire to be around people who live in sin and try to twist the truth. Why? It’s because knowledge is now pleasant and welcome in your soul. You love it.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

     The world will poison you against God. God will feed you, and send you out into that world. Why would He do that? Because, He loves the world you once came out of too. Be careful in that world. You need your daily Holy vitamins to make it out there. Did you get yours today?

Knowing Which Way To Go

January 21, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 2:6-9 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

     As a young boy, my parents often took us on vacation to Kentucky. This was where my dad grew up as a child, and also where my Grandma still lived at the time. She lived far out in the hills, way away from any real town. There was this little store down the road, which acted as the post office, pharmacy, hardware, grocery, and general store. That store and the little Baptist church were all that were there.

     Behind my Grandma’s house was a huge mountain, part of the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains. One day I decided to go up this mountain and do some exploring. My dad had taken me up before, so I felt confident I could do it alone. It was so beautiful up there. You could see everywhere. The higher I climbed, the farther I could see. I climbed and climbed, until I reached the very top of the mountain. I rested a bit, played around a while, and then decided to go back down the mountain to the house. There was just one problem, I could see miles away, but could not see the house. I had forgotten how I got up there and how to get down. I started down the hill on what I thought was the path I came up, but ended up walking through a thicket of thorn bushes and brush. When I came out to the road, I was over 2 miles away from the house, and all scratched up from my journey through the thorn bushes. I was fortunate. I could have come out on the other side of the mountain, about a ten-mile journey home. My dad had taken me up and down the mountain several times with no problem. How did he do that without ever going through the thistles and brush? Simple, he was raised there and he knew the paths.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

    God knows the paths for our life. He keeps our paths. He will guide us in them, if we will only listen to Him. However, when we go our own way, things can get rough. Let’s follow Jesus as He leads His dear children along. You don’t want to end up in the thorns bushes of life do you?
