 Daily Reading – Psa. 65-68 / Rom. 9

GOD SAID:

Psalm 68:32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah:

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Singing has always been a big part of my life. I don’t ever remember a time I didn’t love singing. Even in Sunday School as a little boy, the teachers realized that I wanted to sing, and encouraged me to do so. In High School I had three hours of singing every day. Men’s Choir, School Choir, and a select group of eight called Madrigal Ensemble, that practiced and sang all over representing the school. I sang in Michigan State’s Honor Choir for two years, and received several awards at Soloist competitions while in School. My love for music however, also led me into the world, playing a singing in the bars and nightclubs. I followed what most everyone else did in those places, drinking and doing drugs. It was a lifestyle that always wanted more. Bigger stages, more money, and a better high. Instead, it cost me my friends and family. When I got saved, God put a new song in my heart. I now sing for an audience of one. One pastor who had me sing in his church told another preacher, “Frank doesn’t care if there are ten people or a thousand, he just loves to sing.” I now lead our Church Choir, and have the joy of preaching and singing praises to the Lord in ours, and many other churches.

I must admit, I’m still looking forward to singing in a bigger choir someday. A choir filled with Heavens Harmonies. Until then, I will just do as the Psalmist says, “Sing unto God, … O sing praises unto the Lord.”

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Someday, you’ll sing with me in heaven’s choir if you’re saved. You won’t be able to help yourself. You’ll just have to sing. Might be a good idea to start practicing here on earth. You don’t need a stage or a large audience. God is your audience of one.

Is there a new song in your heart?

Hear My Cry, O God;

 August 14
 Daily Reading – Psa. 58-64 / Rom. 8

GOD SAID:

Psalm 61:1Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever felt as though the clouds above your head were acting as a shield, preventing your prayers from reaching God’s throne of grace? Do you ever get the feeling that heaven is so far away that God just may not hear you? Could it possibly be that God is not listening to you? David begins many of his Psalms asking God to hear him. In this Psalm he says; “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.” David finds himself in a time of sorrow. He is King with great power and authority, yet feels no inner strength within his soul. In the beginning of the next verse he says; “From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee” It’s as if David felt that God has left him all alone and he is crying out from a great distance, God, please come back. God, please hear me. God, I need you.

There are times in every believer’s life when we feel as if we are all alone. Sometimes it’s during an illness we can’t seem to overcome. It may be a time of sorrow over the loss of a friend or family member. It may simply be a lull in life that makes us feel as if God has left us. The very fact that you feel a need for the presence of God should be encouraging. Your cry to Him shows a love and desire for His closeness. By the end of this short Psalm, David remembers God’s presence in the past. God’s help when he needed it, and watch care over Him. His faith in God causes him to end this Psalm in joy and Singing.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Calling to remembrance God’s past love and care for us will increase our faith in His presence and promise. He said, He would never leave us. When God says never, it means NEVER! Call unto Him, Cry out to Him, and know He’s listening.

Did you remember?

Is that singing that I hear?

Hiding In The Church

 August 13
 Daily Reading – Psa. 52-57 / Rom. 7

GOD SAID:

Psalm 55:19 God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

In today’s Psalm, David shares a hurt that many who have been in church for years have also experienced. It’s not that someone might attack our testimony. That’s part of standing up for Christ in a sin filled world. Whenever the righteousness of God is allowed to shine through us, it becomes an immediate revelation of the sinfulness of man. Then man does what man does. He lashes out at what he feels has insulted to his lifestyle. It’s true that hurt people, will hurt people. We should expect that. However, the hurt comes when we’ve befriended someone who we believe also loves the Lord, and they suddenly turn on you. They attack your church, the pastor, and by evidence of their life, even the Lord. Hiding in church does not make you a Christian, any more than walking through a wealthy neighborhood makes you rich. You may fool man, but you not fool God.

In Psalm 55:12-14 David says; “For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.” Why would they do such a thing? Verse 19 tells us. “…Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.”

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

The hurt is real. Sadly it causes some to never trust or reach out again. When this happens, Satan wins. We should never let our hurt stop us from loving others. Jesus took so much pain for us at Calvary, and has been hurt so much worse. Let his love shine through you. Dedication should be a daily cause for rejoicing.

Heaven Can Be Bought

 August 12
 Daily Reading – Psa. 48-51 / Rom. 6

GOD SAID:

Psalm 49:6-7They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

MONEY! That stuff that everyone wants more of. Oh, I know, there are some who say, “I really don’t care if I have money or not.” But then offer them a one hundred dollar bill with no strings attached and see how fast they scarf it up. Every preacher knows that the church needs money to function. To pay the bills, to support missions, and to purchase supplies. Every Missionary knows they need money to get to the field God has called them to. Most often when they get there, they see the needs of the people they are called to minister to and ask others to consider helping with additional finances to aid in that work. We have been led to believe that having a desire for more money is almost sinful, greedy, or against the will of God. However, it’s not the need or desire that is sinful. It’s when that desire becomes your driving force, consuming your thoughts. When money, and not God, become the center of your life, that is when it becomes sinful.

In Psalm 49 there is a warning, not against having wealth, but worshiping and trusting in it. Money is not evil. It is the love of that money that’s evil. You can do a lot of good things with added finances. Yet, as our text says, you can’t buy someone’s entrance into heaven with it. Still, Heaven can be bought! In fact, it was bought by the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, on the cross of Calvary. Heaven can be bought, only with the right currency. The blood of Jesus Christ.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

In 1 Peter 1:18-19 it says; “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold… 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

Glowing Review

August 10 & 11
August 10 – Daily Reading – Psa. 42-47 / Rom. 5
August 11 – NO Daily Reading

GOD SAID:

Psalm 45:17 I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Who doesn’t like to hear good things said about them? Actors and actresses delight when a good review is given about the work they have done on stage or film. Restaurants have been made popular by a good review, or sometimes put out of business by a not so good report. Many work places review their leadership staff annually to see how things are progressing in their companies. Children from pre-school through college are given reviews or report cards stating their achievements in the classrooms. Face it, we are a people groomed from youth to look for and long for good reports. Glowing reviews.

Psalm 45 is a Psalm that paints a glowing review of the Christ to come. It’s entitled “Shoshannim” which means a “Song of Lilies,” also known as “A Song of Love.” It’s a marriage song for the Lily of the Valley, Jesus, the bridegroom, coming to claim His bride the church. In the very first verse it says; “My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king:” meaning his heart is overflowing with good things to say about the King. He follows that with a glowing review of how God has chosen Him for who He is. About His glory and might, His graciousness and majesty, and His honesty and righteousness. He shares of his eternal rule and authority, His love for what is right and hatred of sin, and how desirable he is. The conclusion says, everyone need to know this, so I’ll tell them.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Folk’s, everyone does need to know just how awesome your Saviour, Jesus Christ our Lord, really is. How He came to earth, lived, loved, died, rose again, ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us, and promised to come again for us. Everyone needs to know.

Will you tell them?
