  Can They Reach The Cookies?

Daily Reading – Pro. 8-9 / 1 Co. 14

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 14:9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I have heard many a sermon where the preacher used a lot of big words that no one understood. He sounded intelligent, but who knows?
I read a phrase, “Aspirants for literary advancement should religiously eschew polysyllabic orthography.” It means, “Use simple words.”
One of the best compliments I have received as a preacher is, “You sure make it simple.” Another Evangelist friend said, “When preaching, keep the cookies on the bottom shelf where people can reach them.” In 1 Cor. 14:9 Paul says this too. He said, “utter… words easy to be understood.”

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What good does it do to impress someone with your biblical knowledge if they don’t understand what you’ve said when you leave?

SEPTEMBER 10 & 11, 2022 – Put Your Toys Away

  Put Your Toys Away

SEPTEMBER 10 & 11, 2022
Daily Reading – Pro. 6-7 / 1 Co. 13

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 13:11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over and over, I remember as a child hearing my mom and dad say, “Put your toys away.” I hated hearing that. It meant that I had to go upstairs and pick up all the toys, even the ones my sister got out, and put them in the toy box. Here is something strange though. I cannot remember the last time I did that. I do not have an anniversary on my calendar for the last day that I played with my toys. It was just something I outgrew a desire for and walked away from.
Our maturity in our Christian walk should be much the same. There should be things we look back at and say, I do not remember when, but I spiritually outgrew that. If not, we need to ask ourselves a serious question.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Are we spiritually growing up at all?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

  I Wanted That!

Daily Reading – Pro. 4-5 / 1 Co. 12

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Have you ever watched children in a room with toys? One child will pick a toy and be content. When another child comes into the room and picks up another toy, often the first child will want that one. It did not appear appealing until they saw someone else enjoying it.
Too often church members are like little children. They are happy using the gift God has given them until they see someone else enjoying how God gifted them. Then they think they want that gift instead. If they try to do whatever they were not gifted to do, they soon find it not so enjoyable and become miserable. Why, because that is not what God gifted them to do.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Wouldn’t we find life more enjoyable if we could just enjoy serving God with the gifts He gave us?

SEPTEMBER 8, 2022 – What Did You Come For?

  What Did You Come For?

SEPTEMBER 8, 2022
Daily Reading – Pro. 1-3 / 1 Co. 11

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 11:17-18 Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse. For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I heard a story of a man and his wife talking on their ride home from church. The wife said to her husband, “Did you see Miss Margaret’s new hat?” The husband replied, “Uh, no, I guess I missed it.” She said, “Oh, well did you see Mr. Bill’s new suit?” He again replied, “Well no, I guess I missed that too.” She turned and sternly said, “What do you even go to church for?”
The sad truth is that many people go to church for the wrong reasons. Some go to gawk at others, some to gossip with others, and some to grumble about others. Paul addresses this in 1 Cor. 11:17-18. He said if you go for the wrong reason, “I praise you not.” Going for the wrong reasons will cause divisions, not delight.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

For what reason do you go to church?

SEPTEMBER 7, 2022 – It Is Not Uncommon

  It Is Not Uncommon

SEPTEMBER 7, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 144-150 / 1 Co. 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Paul begins this chapter of 1 Corinthians 10 telling the readers, “I would not that ye should be ignorant.” As he goes on, he speaks of the many things the children of Israel did way back when they left Egypt and wandered in the desert on their way to the Promised land of Israel. He warns the church not to make those same mistakes in life that Israel made thousands of years before. Did Paul think they had not learned anything over thousands of years? Yup!
In fact, these sins are not uncommon today. The temptations today may have undergone a facelift, yet underneath they are still the same. Nevertheless, God is faithful to make a way to escape, just as He did back then.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Are we looking for the escape, or the excuse?
