  It Is Not Uncommon

SEPTEMBER 7, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 144-150 / 1 Co. 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Paul begins this chapter of 1 Corinthians 10 telling the readers, “I would not that ye should be ignorant.” As he goes on, he speaks of the many things the children of Israel did way back when they left Egypt and wandered in the desert on their way to the Promised land of Israel. He warns the church not to make those same mistakes in life that Israel made thousands of years before. Did Paul think they had not learned anything over thousands of years? Yup!
In fact, these sins are not uncommon today. The temptations today may have undergone a facelift, yet underneath they are still the same. Nevertheless, God is faithful to make a way to escape, just as He did back then.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Are we looking for the escape, or the excuse?

SEPTEMBER 6, 2022 – Do Not Be A Castaway

  Do Not Be A Castaway

SEPTEMBER 6, 2022
Psa. 138-143 / 1 Co. 9

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

We have all heard of someone who has said something like, “I don’t want to go to Church, they are just a bunch of Hypocrites.” At that moment you want to tell them, “Well there is always room for one more!” However, politeness does not allow that. The problem is one that Paul addressed here in 1 Corinthians 9:27.
Paul said we must all watch how we live our lives. Keeping fleshly desires in subjection, or under control. Otherwise, when we tell someone of how much we love God, His Word, and His church, they may look at our lifestyle and think, “REALLY, what you are saying and how you live do not match up.” At that moment our testimony, and their desire for Christ is then cast away.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

You don’t want to be a castaway, do you?

  It’s Not The Stuff

SEPTEMBER 5, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 130-137 / 1 Co. 8

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 8:8-9 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

There are activities and products that churches recommend people abstain from. In the past, they were never questioned. People saw them as sinful and did not do them. Today however, everything is questioned. Young people especially are asking why they cannot do those things. How unsatisfying is the answer, “because I say so.” When an adult no longer has the “say so,” the young person will likely try it.
As today’s verses say, it is not always the STUFF that is bad, but rather how it causes others to question the testimony of Christ in us. An unsaved person may wonder, why do I need Christ if this person who says they are saved does that to?

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Isn’t someone’s eternal life worth considering before we do something?

SEPTEMBER 3 & 4, 2022 – Serve God Where You Are

  Serve God Where You Are

SEPTEMBER 3 & 4, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 120-129 / 1 Co. 7

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 7:23-24 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men. Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

I see two areas of concern with those wishing to serve the Lord. First, there are those people who fear the idea of change. They are afraid if they totally surrender to the Lord, they will end up being a missionary in Antarctica. On the other hand, there are some who immediately after accepting Christ, want to Pastor a mega church and change the world.
The answer to both would be the same. Serve where you are. Do not worry about leaving unless God directs your path. Serve in the area where you accepted Christ. God does not call everyone to leave, nor does He call everyone to stay. He does however call everyone to serve.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Isn’t there something you can do for the Lord right where you are today?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

  Washed Away, Not To Stay

SEPTEMBER 2, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 119:89-176 / 1 Co. 6

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Whenever I did the laundry, I would expect that the clothes should come out clean. I would spot treat any difficult stains, place the garment in the right temperature of water, add bleach if necessary and detergent. The expectation was that the dirt would be washed away, not washed and stay. Anything that could not be cleaned was often tossed in the garbage.
Sadly, today many people want to ask God to wash away their sin, yet still live in them. What they are really asking is, “please let me keep my sin, but do not punish me for it.” Today’s verse begins, “such were,” meaning in the past. Sin is dealt with and gone. It then says, “ye are,” meaning presently cleansed.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Did you ask God to wash away your sin or just the penalty?
