“The Apple Of The Eye!”

APRIL 07, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 7:2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“The Apple of the Eye!” What does that really mean? Well, I went out on the Internet and asked that question and here is what I received back from GoEnglish.com.

The apple of your eye is that person (or thing) that you care for the most. Example: “He sure does love his little girl.” Reply: “She’s the apple of his eye.” Example: “You got me the bracelet I wanted!” Reply: “Yes, I knew it was the apple of your eye.”

The original meaning of the apple of your eye is the pupil, or the round black spot in the middle of the eye. It is as if that person’s reflection can be seen in the pupil (“apple”) of your eye. Example: “Everyone knew they would get married someday. She was always the apple of his eye.”

It makes you feel good to look at the person who is the apple of your eye. From a famous love song: “You are the apple of my eye. That’s why I’ll always be with you.”

Using these definitions, is God’s Word, “the apple of thine eye?” Is it, “What you care for most?” Is your life a reflection of God’s Word? Do you feel good looking into Gods Word? God wants His Word to be the Apple of our Eye.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today as you read through the verses on the pages of the Holy Bible remember, God is speaking through that page to your heart. He, more than anything, wants to be the “Apple of Thine Eye.”

What Might Be Your Score?

APRIL 06, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 82:8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

It seems the whole world is unhappy with the idea of people judging people. When I was growing up there use to be winners and losers in games. Now instead, because we do not want to damage someone’s self-esteem, there are those who come in first and the runners-up. Just who in the world do we think we are kidding? Any child or adult knows if they are watching boxing, and they see one person unconscious on the mat, no one thinks he is the runner-up.

We are always being judged whether we like it or not. Our children and grandchildren make judgments on how to live their lives by what they see their parents and grandparents do. Our co-workers are judging whether they can trust us or not by how we conduct our lives. Our friends are judging us to see if what we say and what we do line up. Our spouse is judging us to see what kind of mood we are in today. We are always being judged.

However, I think we often forget that there is one who is always judging. He judges the good and the bad. He will ultimately judge the saved and the unsaved. The saved He judges as an Olympic judge would, issuing a reward at the end of their competition. The unsaved he judges for their sin of rejecting Jesus Christ for their salvation. He will be the final judge. He is always a fair judge. Not accepting some and rejecting others because of anything except, have they accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour and let His blood wash away their sin.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

God is judging us all. If He were to hold up a card like they do for Olympic Skaters, and on the card your Christian walk was rated from a 1 – 10, what number do you think God would be holding up for you today? You control that number; He is simply judging what He sees in your heart and in your life.

What Chains Hold Us?

APRIL 05, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Deuteronomy 24:22 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In America, we too often take our freedom for granted. We wake up every morning and believe we are free. Free to go where we want to go, do what we want to do, and as our parents told us when we were young, we could grow up to be anything we want to be. Freedom. What a wonderful liberty, which we treat so lightly. Men and women have died to gain and keep our freedom. Yet there are those who walk around us every day who truly are not free.

The chains of drug addictions bind some. What may have seemed like such a small thing years ago now controls their life. Some are held captive by alcohol. Every day is another day to see how long they can go before they feel an uncontrollable need for that first drink. Others are enslaved by tobacco, pornography, gambling, etc. They say it is not a problem, but they cannot seem to live without it. The chains are whatever it may be that has more control of our life than we do. Are we free?

In our verse today, Jesus was reminding the Israelites that they too were bound at one time, and not to ever forget it. It is so easy to look at someone else who is bound and forget where we ourselves have come from. We too were bound by sin. Sin was taking us off to hell and we were content to go there. Until one day, someone shared with us the glorious truth of God’s Word. The Holy Spirit shined a light in our life and there and then, we saw our need for a Saviour. Only through Jesus can any of us ever be really set free.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we see others struggling to be free in the sea of life, let’s not toss them an anchor of ridicule, pity, or shame. We once were, and maybe in another way, still are held by some things. We must reach out a hand to help them into the lifeboat of God’s love and mercy. We must remember where we came from and where Jesus found us. Once they get in the boat with us, maybe they can help us with our chains too.

April 3 & 4, 2021 – Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven

Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven

APRIL 3 & 4, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 3:1-2My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.” That was to be a line written in a chorus sung years ago. However, the sentiment seems to be the truth for most people today. There is a story of a Sunday School teacher who asked a student, “Do you want to go to heaven?” The student said, “Yes.” She said, “Go stand over there.” Then she asked another, “Do you want to go to heaven?” They also said, “Yes.” She instructed them also to stand over by the other class member. Then she asked a third student the same question, but the student said, “NO.” The teacher, amazed said, “You mean to tell me that when you die you don’t want to go to heaven?” The young lad replied, “oh yes, when I die I do, I thought you were getting a group together to go right now.”

Everybody wants to go to heaven. I have never ever spoken to anybody about someone who just passed away and heard him or her say, “I sure hope they went to Hell.” Why? Because nobody, I do not care what they say when they are alive, nobody really ever wants to go to hell. Everybody wants to go to heaven. At the same time, we all want to find the fountain of youth. This way we can live here forever.

Well, I personally cannot promise you length of days and quality of life. However, in today’s verse, I believe the Word of God gives us an example of how God does exactly that. It says we need to stay in His Word, and obey the precepts in it, and then God says he will lengthen our days and make them as enjoyable as earthly possible.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How can this be? Well, can you imagine any better way to spend your life, than in obedience to the one who holds the days of your life in the palm of His hand? What a peace of mind. What a joy filled life in communion with the creator and sustainer of life. If anyone can promise you more days, it is He who holds our days in His hands.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

APRIL 02, 2021 – Just Like Dirty Children

Just Like Dirty Children

APRIL 02, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 78:72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

It is a beautiful day out, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and what a great time to take the children to the park. When arriving you tell them all the rules like, do not talk to strangers, do not run off where I cannot see you, try not to get too dirty, etc. After a moment, you find yourself sort of lost in the freshness of spring and the beauty of it all. When it dawns on you, where are the children? You get up; look around, but you cannot see them. You walk around a bit and, oh thank heavens there they are. To whom are they talking? As you get closer, you can see that they are all filthy dirty, and carrying on a conversation with a kindly older gentleman. When you excuse yourself and walk away with the children, you realize, they have broken every single rule you gave them on that day.

What should you do? I know, just leave them there to starve and never teach them another thing. They have disobeyed and so you no longer want them around ever. Right? Of course not. Why, because you had a part in bringing them into this world and you love them. Even when they have not obeyed exactly what you asked, you still love them. Therefore, you take them home, clean them up, make them dinner, and try to explain one more time why it is important to obey the things you have told them. There may be a punishment; however, you real goal in life is to try to guide them skillfully away from dangers and into a life of peace and safety.

You have just read a story that explains the heart of God toward us. We do not always obey, even though we know we should. We do not always stay clean, although we know He has asked us too. We cannot get out of His sight, but we can get out of His will. Nevertheless, if you are His child, He loves you. He will guide and help you and do it by His integrity and skillfulness.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In Hebrews 13:5, it is said of God; “…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” What a great promise to his wayward children. He says to you and to me today, come home. Let’s get cleaned up. I love you.
