The Best “YOU” Ever.

DECEMBER 25, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 31:25-31 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Where are all those popular kids from High School? You know, the ones everyone seemed to like. Admit it, somewhere deep inside even you liked them just a little too. I wonder what they are doing now. I do not see many of them on TV or read about them in the papers. All that popularity was good for a short time. However, what is it good for today? What about that knockout beautiful girl, or the drop-dead good-looking guy, have you seen any of them lately?

The fact is that popularity, or the favor of man comes and goes. It seems to change from year to year. Beauty, physical outer beauty that is, also changes. This does not mean people are no longer attractive, but it is a simple biological fact that our bodies change with time.

However, the character of a person, who they really are is often remembered. A man or woman who loves the Lord and has deep-rooted Godly morals seems to have a special quality about them others cannot imitate or explain. They are often referred to by phrases like “He is a good man,” “she is a godly woman,” or “there is something about them that is different.”

The book of Proverbs ends with an admonition to let the inner beauty from God shine through our lives. Why, because that displays our character, and that goes on forever. People respect God-fearing people even if it appears that they do not. Let God shine through you.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Today, people are going to form an opinion about you. You, and only you can choose what that opinion may be. Nevertheless, you do not have to develop your character alone. Ask God today to help you be all that you can possibly be for Him. Then people will automatically see the best “YOU” ever, because they will see “JESUS” in you.

Providing The Very Best

DECEMBER 24, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 31:19-24 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

The virtues of the woman in this story continue here with her diligence, thriftiness, and charity. She handles the wool and makes with it, warm garments of scarlet. Not only does she make enough for her own family to stay warm, but she works to minister to the needs of others as well. She enjoys using the abilities God has given her.

Many modern bible translations have looked at the term scarlet and said, because it is a color that is double dyed for its depth and richness this word must mean double garments to keep warm. However, nowhere else in scripture is it translated as anything other than scarlet. The word directs us to the origin of the color. In eastern cultures scarlet was obtained from a worm like insect called “Tola, or the Crimson Grub.” When crushed and boiled it would produce a deep rich crimson color used most often for the absolute best wool. Because of the labor and time to produce garments died in scarlet, this color was looked upon as the color of royalty. Today’s verse is referring to the fact that this woman has provided the very best she could for her family.

It is this “Worm” or “Tola” Christ is likened to in Psalm 22:6. We are told there of the torturous and inhumane method of execution by which Christ will shed His precious crimson blood. It is by that blood our sins are washed away and we are clothed in garments of righteousness. Not in our own righteousness, but in the righteousness of Christ. He provided the very best for His own, as did the precious woman in Chapter 31.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

God’s Word is correct to the very smallest of detail. Nothing overlooked and nothing over or under stated. God has provided the very best for His own.

Ordinary, I Think Not

DECEMBER 23, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 31:15-18 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Idleness causes all kinds of problems. Actually, it is not that we have nothing to do, we often just do not know what to do. We have let others dictate our lives so much, we cannot think for ourselves anymore. How unimaginative we have become.

For an example, let me tell you of some people who were exchanging gifts. They all agreed the gifts should cost nothing. One of the presenters decided to share about the extreme value of the free gift he had chosen. He said, “this gift is something that will let your imagination work to its fullest. This item can be used to start a fire to keep you warm, or you can place food on the end of it to be cooked over a fire. It can scratch those hard to reach places when you are alone, or you can mark equal lines on it and use it to measure things. It is a great companion when going for a hike. You can use it to lean on, defend yourself, and write on the ground so you know where you have been or to prop up materials to make shelter if needed. Modified versions of this gift have been used to conduct great orchestras and drummers use them to make music in those orchestras. To you it might only be a stick, but with just a little imagination it can be so much more.”

The woman in our verses today saw she had a role to play in this world. Many women today are told the role of mother or wife is less than glamorous, or even demeaning. They are told they can be so much more. However, just as people overlooked all a stick could be, they too overlook all that a mother and wife really are. Why should a person try to be more than great at the most awesome task given to anyone in the entire world?

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Having the value of life prioritized, as only our creator God can outline for both men and women, is so rewarding. Placing God first, family second, next are others, and finally self. We see those priorities in the woman in today’s verses. To those around her she may have been a simple homemaker, ordinary as a stick. To God she was virtuous, and valuable. Who is it that we should we try to please anyway, God or man?

DECEMBER 22, 2020 – It Is A Matter Of TRUST

It Is A Matter Of TRUST

DECEMBER 22, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 31:11-14 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Trust. Something people take for granted until they do not have it any longer. Trust. It shows that people believe in you. Trust. A virtue once lost, often hard to regain. However, we all need people to trust in us.

Lemuel is told that when he finds the right girl, someone he can trust, she is worth more than all the spoils of war. Complete trust brings about a sense of peace in the heart of man. Trust knows there is someone you can believe in, and someone who also believes in you.

Often, we look at trust as something we earn, when actually it is something that is given away. If we just met and you asked if you could borrow my car, there is a good chance that will not happen. I do not know you, and so I do not know if I can trust you. Once I know you then it is up to me to decide if I want to place my trust in you or not. You can do all you want to earn my trust, but if I choose not to give it, there is nothing you can do.

To give the gift of your trust to someone else is truly a great and wonderful thing. To give it to someone who is unworthy of your trust is called grace. God gave to us the name of His Son and trusts we will do those things that would bring honor to Him. Did we earn His trust, no. So then do we serve Him to pay Him back, again no. We serve Him because He loves us so much and trusts us with His gospel and His name.

He gave us His trust and the name Christian, Christ like, when we did not deserve it. Therefore, as the woman in this chapter, we too should do good and not evil for the sake of the name entrusted to us. We need to make sure those around us see our Lord and Saviour in the best possible light.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

God entrusted to us His name and gospel. What are we doing with that trust? Today is a great day to let God see He did not trust us in vain. We should live, work, and rejoice in this trust we are given.

A Match Made In Heaven

DECEMBER 21, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 31:8-10 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction. Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Lemuel’s mom is reminding her son not to forget others around him. Oh, how easily we begin to take one another for granted in the fast-paced life in which we live. However, each of us should look to those God has placed in our lives, especially those within our home.

Husbands, it would be a wonderful thing if we would daily thank God for the blessing He has given us in our wives. They are truly a delightful gift from God. In the first book of the Bible, God looked at man and said, I need to create someone who will complete and help that man, and He designed the perfect women just for Adam. He created your wife for you as well.

Wives, it would be proper for you to thank God for creating you with the special bundle of talents and abilities only you have, which makes you the perfect counterpart to your husband. You not only have accomplishments of your own, but also whatever your husband does and whoever your husband is, have a lot to do with what you have helped him become.

Both of you should be thankful that God did not leave either of you to do life alone. As Christians He also gave to each of you the Holy Spirit, which resides in you to help you as you go about fulfilling Gods good pleasure in this relationship.

To those who may be single, you need not worry if there is anyone for you. God has a special purpose for your life. If that purpose includes a mate, then know that God has made someone just for you. Do not get in a hurry but wait on the Lord. Thank Him for his design in life and marriage. Then if you say, “I Do,” be all God intended for you to be.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

When we really treasure something given to us, most often our respect for the giver adds great value to the gift. God is the greatest gift giver of all time. The gift He has given you was well thought out and designed with just you in mind. Show God how much you appreciate His thoughtfulness today by how you treat the gift he has given to you.
