Purposeful Thoughts

 October 7
 Daily Reading – Isa. 11-14 / Eph. 5

GOD SAID:

Isaiah 14:24 The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Growing up, my younger sister and I would at times, (most of the time,) fuss and fight with each other. Looking back I can se that most of our scarps were over nothing. However, they seemed monumentally important at the time. One defense I would use when telling our parents of yet another issue was, “she did that on purpose.” My implication was, this was not an accident. She had thought about it, planned it out, and then had done what she planned to do. To be fair, that was not always true, but it was really good argument at the time. “She did that on purpose!”

In today’s passage God says, He is going to do something on purpose. It actually says; Isaiah 14:24 “The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:” If you think about it, this says exactly what I accused my sister of. He had thought about it, planned it out, and then promised to carry out what He has planned to do. This does not mean that every thought that crosses God’s mind gets carried out. We read in Exodus where several times God vocalized a thought He had to Moses, but chose not to carry them out. What this does promise however is this, If God has thought something through, and decided it will happen, it’s a done deal. In Isaiah 14:27 it says; “For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it?…” The answer is, No One!

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

In Jeremiah 29:11 God says to Israel; “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” You do know, God has purposeful thoughts about you too.

Do you draw comfort knowing this?

GOD SAID:

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Occasionally prophecies are very in depth, and honestly, take a lot of research, or prior knowledge to figure out. However, with even the slightest knowledge of the bible anyone can see that Isaiah 9:6-7 are obviously about Jesus. Isaiah points out some very important detail about the Lord. He says; “Unto us,” to the nation of Israel, “a son,” a male child is born. One of the requirements to be the coming Messiah. “The government shall be upon his shoulders.” This refers to His ability to rule as King, not only over Israel, but over the entire world. His names; “Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace,” can be given collectively to none other than He who comes, and is able, to free us as captures from this sin filled world. “Wonderful,” a somewhat accurate description. I once heard someone say we ought to reserve the word AWESOME for Christ. However, even Awesome does not fully declare how wonderful this Saviour is. “Counsellor,” for people stood and listened in awe of how He spoke with such authority. “The mighty God, The everlasting Father,” seeing He is a part of the Godhead, deity. Even He said that He and His Father are one. “The Prince of Peace,” real peace. Not a peace treaty with man, but settling the debt of man with God, and bringing eternal peace. He is of the house of David, and seated on a throne that has no end. Anyone can see this is obviously Jesus. AMEN!

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Shakespeare said; “A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet” We could say, Jesus, by many names, is still my Saviour. Acts 4:12 “…there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

What does ‘Jesus” mean to you?

THE WEEK IN REVIEW:

From the very beginning, God has desired that we understand and worship only One God. He’s continually showed His love for us, as we have seen in:

●  Oath Of Love
●  Open My Eyes
●  Only Me
●  O House Of Jacob
●  Orchestrated Confusion
●  Obviously Jesus

As this One God has proved His love for us over and over again, doesn’t it just make sense that we would show this One God that same love in return.

Orchestrated Confusion

 October 4
 Daily Reading – Isa. 5-7 / Eph. 3

GOD SAID:

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

“Woe unto them…” Even the phrase sounds bad. In it’s original context it means to point out, or bring attention to these people with lamentations or tears. In our English language, the word woe is used for great sorrow or distress. What is it that God shares through Isaiah that brings about such great sorrow? It begins back in Isaiah 5:8 with people who are selfish and consume everything around them so no one else might have anything. Then twice in verses 11 and 22 it speaks of those who run to consume alcohol, until alcohol consumes them. Verses 18 and 19 points to, “them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity.” The implication is that they are so tied to their sinfulness, that their pride and stubbornness causes them to question if Gods is even in control. Finally verses 20 & 21 speaks of their pride and insincerity. Calling; “evil good, and good evil,” and being “wise in their own eyes.” Suggesting that they want God to rescue them in their sin, not out of it. Woe unto them who are so engrafted and confused in their sinfulness that they want God to endorse it as ok and join them in it. Woe indeed.

It takes no great leaps of imagination to see that society in general is very close to living this same way today world wide. Global consumerism has cheered on a world filled with selfish, addicted, stubborn, insincere, prideful people. Then we wonder why there is woe all around us.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

In the English language there’s another word that sounds similar to woe. We hear it in western shows when the cowboy wants his horse to stop he says “Whoa.” Maybe this is the whoa we ought exercise in life today, before God pronounces woe on us.

Which will it be for you, woe or Whoa?

October 3, 2019 – O House Of Jacob

O House Of Jacob

 October 3
 Daily Reading – Isa. 1-4 / Eph. 2

GOD SAID:

Isaiah 2:5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

The book of Isaiah is a book that has many levels to it. Some of the book is written to Israel as a warning. Some of this book is prophetic in nature about things that were to come about the birth and during the life of Christ, and have now been fulfilled. There are other segments from the Prophet Isaiah that have yet to come to pass. One thing that is constant, God never changes. In the very beginning of this book Isaiah says; “O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.” The verses that follow tells of a why it was that God had removed His blessings off these people. Vs 6 says they are like the superstitious people of the east who invoke divining spirits and are involved in pagan practices. Also, they have accumulated untold wealth which they now believe, will be their security. Their armies now have horses and chariots they are trusting in for protection. If that were not enough, they have included idols into their religious practices. Putting faith in an item that were made by their own hand. Isaiah says; “O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.” Is there any question why it is that God has removed His blessings in light of what we see?

Could we not just as easily say; “O House Of God, come and let us walk in the light of God’s word.” Many of the churches today have judged God’s word as obsolete for modern society. Is it any wonder why God may not bless us today?

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

O child of God, though the world may not trust our God for protection, or sustaining of life, let us never forget. Though they may turn to witchcraft, and accept sinfulness as ok, let us hold to the truth of God’s word. His blessing are still available.

Where do you place your trust?

Only Me

 October 2
Daily Reading – Song of So. 7-8 / Eph. 1

GOD SAID:

Song of Solomon 8:6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

The Shulamite wife has persuaded her husband to go back to the field where they met. This is his field and the harvest of this field would be his harvest. He agrees to go, but as they approach he mind imagines several other handsome shepherds who may have at another time caught her eye. Solomon shares his burning desire to be her one and only. As it says in Song of Solomon 8:6 “Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.” It was customary in those days for a bride of that region to carry a mark known as a seal on their arm or breast. A small puncture filled rubbed over with a blue powder that left a permanent mark. Solomon says to his bride, I want you to be only faithful to me. Only me.

When we see Solomon as a picture of Christ, we can hear Paul say to the church in 2 Corinthians 11:2 “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.” God Himself said in the ten commandments in Exodus 20:3 “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” He has sealed us until the day of redemption with His Holy Spirit and says, Me, Only Me. No one else.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

The Shulamite assures Solomon in vs 7 that her heart is knit to only to him. She says; if a man gave all he had for love, it wouldn’t change her heart. Jesus said in Matt. 22:37 “…love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”
