You Really Don’t Deserve That

MAY 26, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Colossians 3:24-25 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

We have all heard the phases, “You get what you deserve,” or “keep it up, and you will get what is coming to you,” and “you only get out of life what you put into it.” Any of this sound familiar? I guess in certain areas of life these are all correct statements. Even in the Christian life, we only seem to get back out of life what we are willing to put into it.

The truth of the matter is we should all rejoice in the fact we will not get our just rewards if we know Jesus as Saviour. In fact, if we all received what we really deserved, it would surely not be heaven. We are the reason Jesus had to suffer and die on the cross of Calvary. It was for our sin that He came to this earth, to make a way for us to be forgiven and miss sins penalty. So, in actuality, we are going to get what we never deserved. We did not deserve to be forgiven, but we were. We do not deserve a home in Heaven, but there is one there. We do not deserve the love of Christ, but we receive it every single day. We received all this simply because we made Jesus, Lord, and Saviour of our life.

However, if we chose to rebel against the love of God and refuse the forgiveness available, we will receive what we do deserve. This is not God’s design or desire for us. Nevertheless, it is what we really do deserve. In addition, God does not show favoritism among us. No matter how good we try to be, or who we are, God is not a respecter of persons. It will come down to this. Did you give your life to the one who gave His life for you?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If you do not want to receive what you rightfully deserve, accept the Love of God today. It is our only hope of escaping our earned destiny. He is the way, the truth, and the life…. This life, and life eternal.

Trustworthiness – More Than A Big Word

MAY 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

People do not like people in whom they cannot trust. As my dad use to say, “Be a man of your word, if you make a promise, you better keep it.” You just cannot trust a person who is not faithful to their own word.

I am sure you have found this true in your own life. When things are going great and there seem to be no problems around, everyone appears about the same. You can listen to advice from everyone and weigh out what you want to use.

However, let storm clouds of life rise and trouble come your way. Then where do you turn? Who is it you go to for good advice? Is it the person who has been telling the whopper tales? Do you confined in the one who says they will be there and then never shows up? Even worse, they do not seem to care. Do you seek counsel from the one person who lies continually? Is this where you turn to for advice? The obvious answer is NO! Why not? It is because you have learned by experience, you can never trust that person with anything.

Well, here is a thought to remember, people look at and judge us in the same way. In addition, if we are a Christian, they look at us as a representative of our God. We are standing as a testimony for a God who cannot lie and is always faithful? Is this what they see when they look at and listen to us?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Make your words, your attitude, and your life count for Jesus. Be faithful to Him and to your word. He has always been faithful to you and His word.

Scars Can Be Scary And Hurt

MAY 24, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 119:1 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

I remember back when I was younger the occasional scary movie on TV. I admit it, I loved watching them and being scared half out of my wits. Certain people would seem to scare me more than others. Add to that the fact that the music would get all eerie sounding and there always seemed to be a thunderstorm when scary people were around. Other details only added to the fright. In many of these films there was a man with a scar on his face and for whatever reason the scar made him look tough and scary. Something bad must have happened to him in his past for him to have to carry that ugly old scar around the rest of his life. At least that was what the mind of a young boy thought.

Nevertheless, life leaves scars. Some are more visible than others are. Some are physical scars that others can see. There are also emotional scars that tear at the heart which often are not quite so visible. Some hurt us personally, while other scars will also hurt our Lord. You might be wondering, “How can my scars hurt Christ?” Well, scars from the sins of the past before our salvation, God can turn and use for His good, as He saved you and forgave you for those past sins. However, the scars of sinfulness after we are saved will often damage the testimony of a Christian. These scars not only hurt the believer, but they also hurt the one of whose name we now bear. They hurt the name of Christ. God forgives us of all our sin, yet sin can leave a nasty scar. As believers we should do all we can not to add any more scars as we go through life’s journey.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I can still recall my dad saying, “son, it is not just your name you are dragging through the mud, it is my name too.” That did not make a lot of sense to me back then, but I sure understand today. As a Christian, we need to remember God could also say, “It is not just your name you are dragging through the mud child of mine, it is also my son Jesus’ name too.”

You ALMOST Got Me

MAY 22 & 23, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Picture with me if you will a man working out in the yard or maybe on something in the garage. He has almost finished with his project when his wife yells out, “are you done yet?” Now I know that her asking really does not change anything, but for some reason it seems to cause a big disturbance in his train of thought on what he is doing. He yells back, “I’ll be done in a few minutes.” “When?” she asks. “In just a minute,” he replies. Then the magic words that makes him want to hurry and finish. “Well dinner is almost ready.” Almost ready! Not quite ready, but close. This means in just a little bit it will be completely ready and he definitely wants to be there. The word “almost” seems to give him, not much, but at least some time.

King Agrippa said to Paul, “thou ALMOST persuadest me…” Almost. He is not completely persuaded, but close. What kept the king from being persuaded completely? Could Paul possibly have said anymore? I doubt it. Could the Holy Spirit have moved any more in the Kings heart? Probably not. Almost is close, but not close enough. King Agrippa may have thought to himself; I have a little more time.

Almost is where most people live today. I am almost ready to be saved. Almost ready to give up this lifestyle. Almost ready to turn my life over to Christ. ALMOST…but not quite, because I think I may have just a little more time. It has been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. People almost made it, almost got saved… almost!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Almost is a great word for salvation. However, you must divide it up for it to work. You see ALL is the MOST you can give to the Lord. That is just what He wants. If you give him your ALL, He will make the MOST of your life.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

THEY DID IT FIRST!

MAY 21, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 21:1-2 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will. Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Excuses, what are they? I had a friend at our church that has since gone home to be with the Lord, who continually told me the definition of an excuse was “the skin of a reason stuffed with a lie.”

I am certain that we have all made up an excuse at one time or another. Instead of being completely honest with someone, we rather tell a part truth. Sadly, we sometimes make up excuses and rehearse them to our self. It often will begin when you start to wonder, should I be reading this, watching this, or listening to this? Should I be going there, hanging out with them, or even talking this way? Should I be drinking this, taking this, or smoking this? What is the excuse we give to our self? Well, it may be, “l saw Mr. or Miss Christian doing it, so if it is ok for them, it must be ok.” We begin to make excuses for our life, yet inside we have a funny feeling, and we know something is not right. However, we have tried to convince ourselves if God will let them get by with it, He is sure to do the same for me.

Did you ever stop to think; maybe they are watching you and thinking the same thing? Maybe they are judging their life by what they see you doing.

The Bible says that man will find a way to make everything they do seem ok in his own eyes. God, on the other hand, looks on your heart. He knows what you know deep down inside. He knows of the feeling you have knowing this is wrong or right. Do you know why God knows? He put that feeling there to help you make right choices.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I heard a while back a phrase that helps me occasionally. It said, “If in doubt, don’t.” We should all operate under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Gods Word and not according to someone that we might see at church or at work. Let us be an example of Christ, and for Christ.
