It’s Not About The Dwelling

JANUARY 17 & 18, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 35-37 / Matthew 12:1-37

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 12:6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

As a former pastor, I was grateful for the place God provided for our church to meet. However, at times, I have almost been scolded for saying the building is a building, and the Church fills it. Don’t get me wrong, I think we should respect and treat with care God’s house, the place where we meet. However, when all is said and done, it is wood, brick, shingles, and siding.

Jesus made a similar statement in Matthew 12:6. It is not about the dwelling; it is about the dweller. A building without God’s saved people is not a church. Just as a person without Christ in their heart is not a Christian?

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What matters more, the dweller or the dwelling?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

On Sundays, we encourage you to attend your local church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then, when you get home, reread those passages for today’s reading. God has given your pastor exactly what He desires for you to have on that day.

Real Rest

JANUARY 16, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 33-34 / Matthew 11:20-30

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

It was very possible that in today’s verse, Christ was speaking to Jewish people who had been oppressed by the ceremonial and ritualistic laws of their religion. He was saying to them, If you embrace me as your Saviour, you can then rest from these burdensome, legalistic, man-made laws. That had to sound good.

As we read it today, He is telling us the same thing. Many have searched for the truth in life and tried to find it in work, wealth, worldliness, and whatever might fill that emptiness inside. In John 14:6, it says Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Once you find that Jesus’ way is the truth of life, you can rest from the constant search.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Will it be His way of rest or your way of worry?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Healing For The Soul

JANUARY 15, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 31-32 / Matthew 11:1-19

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 11:4-5 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

We are genuinely concerned with our physical bodies these days. At this time of year, we make promises to ourselves to eat right for better health, to exercise for a longer life, and overall to try to take care of ourselves.

When Jesus was telling John’s disciples to share the miracles they saw, He included sight, illness, hearing, walking, and life as all being important to man. Then He added in the same list of importance, “the poor have the gospel preached to them.” You see, the Gospel brings health to the soul of man. Today, more than anything else, we need this healing of the soul. It is a miracle available today to all who will believe.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Will you help work a miracle today in someone’s eternal life
by sharing this healing Gospel?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

It’s A War Of Wills

JANUARY 14, 2026
Daily Reading – Genesis 29-30 /  Matthew 10

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

Over the years, as I have read today’s verse, I have seen both positive and negative. If you try to hold on to life, you lose all the benefits of following Christ. If you let go of your hold on life, you will find joy in both this life and the life to come. I still believe this to be true. However, today as I read it, I found another understanding of it.

As I read, “He that findeth his life shall lose it:” I thought of a man who had found in his life that earthly holdings are futile. Fame, riches, and pleasures all pass away. Therefore, he decides to give his life to God. So then when it says, “he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it,” it could be talking about the same person. Either way you read this, it still says, to enjoy this life and eternity, we must surrender our life to God’s will.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

What hold on life might you surrender today?

IF YOU ARE JOURNALING:

Ask yourself, what are MY THOUGHTS concerning this passage and today’s devotion?

Within this reading, do I find a CHALLENGE for my life?

What are the things I WILL DO today or this week to accept that CHALLENGE?

Look, Love, And Lead

JANUARY 13, 2026
Daily Reading—Genesis 27-28 / Matthew 9:18-38

WHAT GOD HAS SAID:

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

WHAT I HAVE SEEN:

When we read the verse today, we find that Jesus looked with compassion and love upon these people who followed Him. When He looked, he saw a people who, over the years, had been misled and misfed. They were worn and weary from following one idea and then another. All they needed was someone to give them the truth and lead them. He then says, “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few.”

Friend, today the world is the same as then. They are led and fed the wrong things by wolves in sheep’s clothing. I can almost hear Jesus from heaven’s throne asking, Will anyone step up to feed my sheep? Pastor? Evangelist? Sunday School Teacher? Mom or Dad?

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Who will feed God’s sheep? Will You?
