Where Are You When God Speaks?

OCTOBER 06, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 39:15 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Where are you when you most often hear from God? Some would say Church, during Sunday School, morning or evening worship, or at Wednesday night service. Oh, how I pray that is true. While others might say, He speaks to me during my quiet time with Him during daily devotions. Stating that as they read their Bible God uses His written Word to speak to their heart. What a wonderful truth this is for those who take time to fellowship with God daily. However, most of us would probably not have said in jail. In a place made to house sinners and lawbreakers. Yet, that is exactly where He spoke to Jeremiah. In fact, we will find in the Bible God spoke to several people while they were in jail. It may seem like an unlikely place, but the truth is God speaks to us all in all sorts of places. He does so through the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that we have studied previously. Often in our own emotional or spiritual prisons which we have created.

• In our prison of “I want it my way,” Jesus says, “whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

• In a prison of despair, we hear the voice of God say, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

• In the prison of our own sinfulness that may seem unforgivable or irreversible, we hear God speak; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

• When it seems we can’t go on and we place ourselves in a prison of dejectedness and weariness we hear Him call; “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

• In the most unlikely places, we hear God say, “Peace be still.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Why do we not hear Him speak? We often shut Him out or stay too busy for God. Take time today to listen… Hear it? He just said, “I love you.”

OCTOBER 05, 2021 – He Knows!

2021-keywords-modified-header-croppedHe Knows!

OCTOBER 05, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 15:18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Here is a test for you today. Think back to when you were in sixth grade. You should have been around the ages of 10-12 years old. What were the craft items you made that year and brought home to your parents? What book reports did you write out that year? If you can answer those questions, (which if you are over 21, I doubt you can,) then answer this. Where are crafts and book reports right now and what condition are they in. Have you been taking care of them very well?

I know that sounds ridiculous. However, in looking at the difficulty we might have in remembering such simple items only a few years back, it may help us to see the absolute and abundant wisdom of God. He remembers it all. Everything and everyone that He has ever created are just as fresh in His mind as if it were today when that creation took place. Not only does He remember each creation, but He also knows exactly where each one is today and has been taking care of every need since the day of its creation. This is a very simple illustration of the omniscience, (all-knowing power) of God.

God knows everything about everything. This means He knows everything about YOU! How great it is to know we have a loving God who truly cares about us, and is watching over us every second of every day? He said He would supply our need and we can know He will because He sees every need before we have it. God enjoys knowing you, His creation.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

In addition, dear child of God, more than just intellectually, God intimately knows you as well. He knows all your thoughts, your fears, your desires, and emotions. He truly knows you. Are you rejoicing today? Rejoice with Him. Is something bothering you today? Take it to the one who can really do something about it. Take it to God, the one who really knows you. Also, take some time today to get to know Him.

It Is Good

OCTOBER 04, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 4:1-2 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Someday son, you will see I am right,” or “when will you learn child, that when I tell you something, I know what I am talking about?” These words have rung in my ears for years. My dad would tell me something, and I would for some silly reason, believe my way was better. Guess what, it was not!

Proverbs 4:1 says, “Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father.” The word instruction here, in Hebrew, carried the meaning of discipline. It could say the discipline of your father.

What did you just think of when you read the word discipline? I know I think of getting a spanking. That is one form of discipline used when I would not obey. However, that is a discipline I received for a discipline I would not obey. You see the word “discipline,” also includes the meaning of a controlled behavior. The father in today’s passage is telling his son, using one word, you choose which it will be? If you will hear of the disciplines, which I, your father has learned by years of practice, and then apply them as directed, you can avoid the disciplines that come from of disobedience.

This is exactly what all of life is about. It is about learning to live with disciplines. In fact, that is what Jesus was doing while here on earth. He was teaching the disciplines of life to His disciples. If they would learn, and then adhere to them, the blessing from God would follow. If they went about their own way, they would also suffer the consequence of disobedience. When God, in Genesis 1, created this earth and everything on it, it was all set in order, disciplined. And He said, “it is good.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

How many times do you need to bump your head on something before you learn to duck? How many times must we see, God’s ways are always the best, before we will obey? When we do His will and willingly follow His disciplines for life, “It is Good.

Is There Anything Too Hard For God?

OCTOBER 2 & 3, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 32:27  Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Some days it may feel as though the weight of the whole world falls on your shoulders. Problems seem to arise at every turn. Family situations keep coming one after another. Friends appear to have turned a deaf ear to your concerns and problems. Pressures from work and co-workers keep growing day after day. It may even look as if there is no way out. However, God says there is. As our never-changing God spoke these words to the people of Israel, you might want to bend an ear to what they say even today.

Is there anything too hard for God, Anything? Could the God who created such a complex and wonderful creation as you also handle the daily cares you may have? The answer is YES! Can the God who created heaven and earth and keeps it all working, also handle your pressures at work? YES! Is the God who overthrew Satan’s plans at the cross of Calvary and destroyed the yoke of sin forever able to help you deal with your family matters? Again, it is YES!

Jeremiah understood this. In fact, our verse today is just a confirmation from God of what Jeremiah had said back in verse 17 when he said: “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” God’s answer was: “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?” The answer…NO! NOTHING!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When the world seems to surround you as a tomb, go to the Lord who conquered the tomb. Jesus said it best in John 10:10 when He said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Like It Or Not, We Need Trials

OCTOBER 01, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

James 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

One Sunday morning in our church service, I spoke on patience. I was saying we should all be more patient with one another and the burdens they bear. I spoke of how trials will help work in us patience if we will listen to God during the trial. I also mentioned how we should pray one for another. That is all Biblical, right.

With the morning service over, I headed home to get some lunch and prepare for our afternoon baptismal service. At the time, we did not have a baptistery in our church so we would go to another church during cold months for baptismal services. When I got home, I found my finished basement had about 1 inch of standing water in most of it. Our sump pump had quit working. I quick called a friend who knew about plumbing and he and I got the water pretty much cleaned up and the pump temporarily working again. When I joined the church service that afternoon, I half-jokingly asked them, “Which one of you yahoos decided to pray for the Pastor to have more patience? Well, whoever you are cut it out.” Everyone laughed.

Since then when I have heard people praying, “God, please give me patience,” I often wondered what might be coming their way to help them gain patience. I have long stopped praying for patience. My life has enough trials in it to help me learn patience on a daily basis. I now pray for peace.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Today, as the burdens of life begin to bear upon you, think back on things you do now with ease which once were trials in your life. Walking was a trial when you were a one-year-old and driving when you were sixteen. Things that once seemed almost impossible, trials of the past you now do with ease. The trials you face today may also be the very things that makes you a much better Christian for tomorrow.
