Special Kind Of Love

 NOVEMBER 4 & 5, 2023
 NOVEMBER 4 – Daily Reading – Jeremiah 30-31 / Titus 2-3

 GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:


        Society today has tossed the word love around to the point, that for many, it means very little. We love our food, our money, our homes, our cars, and our jobs. Yet ask yourself, do any of those things love us back? The answer would be no, as none of those things have the ability to show any emotion. Sadly, this is the kind of love that many show one another as well. On social media pages we show approval with likes, or hearts on people’s posts. Often, we do not know these people, or anything about them. It is an emotionless click, with little thought or care attached to it. Yet, some people on those social media sites live for the likes and hearts they gather on those posts. Their happiness depends on how many of these emotionless, thoughtless, likes or hearts they might gain from people they often do not know. For many, love has become a meaningless click.

         God however does know you. He knows all about you. When God says He loves you, it is a special kind of love. In today’s verse, God told disobedient Israel, He loves them with an everlasting love. In 1 John 4:10 it says, ”Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” God again shows us the same special kind of love. Even in our sinful state, He loves us enough to send His only Son, Jesus, to be the total payment for our sinfulness. This is a special kind of LOVE. 

 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:


        It only makes sense that we love a God who loves us like this. In 1 John 4:19 it says, “We love him, because he first loved us.” The special relationship we have with God is based on a special love. It is God’s Special love, implanted in our heart.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW:

        Nothing has changed. Israel was called to put their faith in God. They did not, and it cost them. We too are still Saved By Faith in the person of Jesus Christ. This week we saw God working in:

  ● Satisfied By Thy Word
  ● Search Me, Try My Reins
  ● Surrender And Live
  ● Say What?
  ● Spiritually Discerned
  ● Special Kind Of Love

        Salvation has never been by works, we are today, and always will be Saved By Faith.

       Enjoy today with your church and hear what God has prepared in the heart of His man for you this week.

Spiritually Discerned

 NOVEMBER 3, 2023
 Daily Reading – Jeremiah 26-29 / Titus 1

 GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 29:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

 

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:


        There are no shortages of religions. If you can dream of a dream of what you want religion to be, there is likely a group that will match your whims. Even if you desire no God, there is an Atheist Church that believes there is no God. The problem is this is also a religion, and they do have a god. They have made themselves out to be their own god. In fact, anyone who is not following God’s Word as God wrote it, well, they have also made themselves out to be their own god. Many today say the Bible is old and not meant for us, or it was simply stories told in old times. They are discarding the God’s Word as fiction, and instead following the desires of man.

 

        In today’s passage, God warns against following self-proclaimed prophets. Those who say, “thus says the Lord,” when God has not spoken. People often want God to say this or that so they will twist or pervert God’s Word to fit their desires. God warned the church today in 1 Corinthians 2:13-14 of following man when it says, “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” Following God’s Word, not man’s, is always best.

 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:


        I need to know what God says when I read His Word. Not what I want it to say. Every morning I pray Ps. 119:18 which says, “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” I need Spiritual Discernment every day.

NOVEMBER 2, 2023 – Say What?

Say What?

 NOVEMBER 2, 2023
 Daily Reading – Jeremiah 23-25 / 2 Timothy 3-4

 GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 25:4 And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:


        One morning when I was reading the paper, I remember seeing a cartoon. In the first frame there was a little boy standing with his fingers in his ears and from his mouth came the words “la la la, la la la Hum Hum La la la.” Standing next to him was a father reading off a list of all the chores he expected him to do that day. In the second frame, the father is looking at the boy and the boy is looking back at the father. The father says, “Did you hear what I said?” The boy looks at his father, with a false puzzled look and says, “What?” The next frame is the same as the first, with the boy back making noise with his fingers in his ears and father reading the list. The fourth frame was the father asking again, “Did you hear me?” and the boy saying, “What?” And so it goes.

        In today’s world with such busy lives, many times we may treat God this same way. From the beginning of time, God has told us of a Saviour, Jesus Christ. He has shared with us how to live to receive the most blessings from this life and the life to come. However, like the young boy in the cartoon, we are so busy making as much noise as we can with our lives and entertainment that we have shut out the wisdom being given to us by God. He keeps telling us, but are we really listening? We must not be hearers of the word only, but doers also. It is time for us to listen to what God has to say and obey.         

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:


        My friend, when we stand before God at life’s end and He asks, “Did you hear what I said?” We had better have the right answer. At that moment with God, if we have the wrong answer, the final frame of the cartoon will not be good one.

NOVEMBER 1, 2023 – Surrender And LIVE

 Surrender And LIVE

 NOVEMBER 1, 2023
 Daily Reading – Jeremiah 20-22 / 2 Timothy 1-2

 GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 21:8 And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

 

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:


        Here is a dilemma for the house of Judah. In Jeremiah 21:8 Jeremiah is told, “And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.” God is telling them how to live. You would think anyone who heard this would choose to live. However, in the next verse God lays out the choice they will have to make. Jeremiah 21:9 says, “He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.” If you want to live, then you must surrender. If you do not surrender, if you stay where you are, clinging to all your earthly things, well, then you will die in this city. It is simple right? Surrender, and LIVE!

        It is basically the same choice that people struggle with today. If you want to have eternal life, well, then surrender your life to Christ. In Mark 8:35-37 it says, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” It is simple right? If you want to live, I mean really live eternally, surrender and LIVE! 

 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:


        Sadly, many are tied to earthly things, just as some who stayed behind in Jeremiah’s day, and they died. God has set before us the way of LIFE. Jesus said in John 14:6 “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Search Me, Try My Reins

OCTOBER 31, 2023
Daily Reading – Jeremiah 16-19 / 1 Timothy 6

 

GOD’S WORD:

Jeremiah 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

 

 GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:


        When God originally created man, He did so looking at us as a perfect creature. We were His perfect creation. To make us perfect, He gave us characteristics like His own. A mind to think with, the will to choose, and a heart full of emotions. In doing so, He also gave man the opportunity to mess up. So it goes, we did, and still do. Man’s heart, thoughts, and will have become corrupted by the sin which Satan introduced into this world.

 

        The verse just before Jeremiah 17:10 says our hearts are “desperately wicked: who can know it?” The answer is, God. God knows our hearts even better than we do. He knows what we really desire. Our verse today says, “I try the reins.” What do reins do when put on a horse? They are used to direct this large animal to stop and go, or to turn left or right. What would be the reins of a person? Well, they would be the mind, or the heart of a person. Your mind tells you to stop doing something, or start doing something, or to go here or there. God knows the mind of every person.

 

        So, ask yourself, what is it that your mind and heart really want? You can see the answer as God does by your ways. Where do you go? What do you do? Whom do you spend time with? How often does this include God? If you do not like the answers, maybe you had better get a firmer grip on the reins! Better yet, turn them over to God. 

 

 GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:


        As the day goes by, ask God to keep your mind on things that would be glorifying to Him. When you find your mind wandering, wander back over toward God. He is waiting for you to allow Him to lead.

 

When God searches your heart and mind,
does He find He has control?
